Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Die Rise takes place on Earth, but where on Earth is Die Rise based?

Answer: China

Specifically, Die Rise takes place in Shanghai. This is actually referenced to as players are loading into the map, as the game will label Die Rise as 'The Great Leap Forward'.

The Great Leap Forward was actually a real-life Chinese economic initiative. It took place from 1958 to 1962. It was essentially an attempt to forcibly convene privatized labor and resources, doing things such as banning privatized farming and establishing communal labor. The result was a massive famine that caused the deaths of millions. Again, this took place in the real world, not the video game.
2. Victis returns as playable on this map. Three of the four characters will play out identically, minus their voicelines. One character will constantly hear voices in his head that the player can also hear throughout a match. What character does this happen to?

Answer: Samuel Stuhlinger

Samuel was previously a member of The Flesh, so he has consumed zombie flesh. As a result, he can hear Richtofen's voice in his head constantly. On Die Rise exclusively, whoever is playing as Stuhlinger will periodically hear the voices of zombies on the map in their head as well.

The zombies themselves are actually in certain agony, as they can be heard begging the player to kill them and warning them that "he lies!" without actually clarifying who the 'he' is. It serves as a reminder that, narratively, the zombies are not in control of their own actions.
3. On TranZit, players mainly traveled around the map by bus. There is no bus here. What is one method of travel the player can expect to engage with?

Answer: Elevators

Every single perk machine on this entire game is inside of a random elevator, the only technical exception being Who's Who? since that perk is on the same elevator every single game. As well, if players want to get their hands on the Bowie Knife, Pack-a-Punch or reach the Dragon Rooftop, travel by elevator is required.

This isn't a standard elevator, where one simply gets in, then gets off at their desired stop. The player must ride on top of their elevator of choice. It is possibly to die via getting crushed, so players must watch and ensure they aren't standing atop an elevator that's about to go to the top floor.
4. Just like TranZit, this map offers a buildable wonder weapon. The Sliquifier is a destructive force of nature. What is the last round this weapon is capable of one-shotting a zombie?

Answer: 99

Right up through round 99, it is impossible for a zombie to survive being hit by the Sliquifier. Moreover, it can be fired at the floor to create a toxic area which will deal the same amount of damage to zombies stepping in it as a direct hit. As such, this weapon is incredibly well suited to taking players to high rounds.

Upon reaching round 100, the Sliquifier will no longer one shot. At round 106, it stops being capable of two-shotting as well. So the end of its effectiveness is fairly abrupt and very noticeable, but it still easily outperforms any other weapon available on this map.
5. Every five to six rounds, a brand new enemy known as the Jumping Jack will appear and make up the sole enemy of the round. It isn't intuitive at all, but killing a round's worth of Jumping Jacks a very specific way will grant a reward. What condition must be achieved to get a reward?

Answer: Killed without missing a single shot

If the player kills all Jumping Jacks without ever missing a single shot, they will be gifted a free, random perk at the end of the round.

While players could do this the "normal" way and simply try to make sure they don't miss any of their gunshots, clever players can also find a much easier way around this. One way is to exclusively use melee, as this would make it impossible to miss a 'shot' since the player would never take one to begin with. The alternate method would be to construct a Trample Steam, activate it, then lead Jumping Jacks right into it. A Jumping Jack touching a Trample Steam will immediately be destroyed without actually having to shoot it.
6. Die Rise debuted one of the most made-fun-of perks of all time. Which perk machine debuted on this map?

Answer: Who's Who?

Who's Who? is genuinely one of the worst perks ever created, and it's no wonder it never appeared in a map after Die Rise. On paper, the perk seems to serve a critical niche: on taking a down, instead of being downed and laying there, bleeding out like usual, the player will spawn a 'drone' of themselves a distance away. The player will be able to navigate this drone to their dying body to revive themselves with it. It sounds like a useful function on paper, but it immediately falls apart under even mild scrutiny.

For one, the drone spawns with no perks and nothing but an M1911 starting pistol. If the player fell to the undead when they had perks and functional weapons, how are they supposed to survive with no perks and, effectively, no weapons?

Worse yet, the perk has a tendency to cannibalize itself. The location that the drone spawns is only determined by finding the nearest position to the player's dying body where there are actively no zombies. This means the perk has a chance to spawn the drone in a position where it is completely impossible for it to revive the player's dying body. This completely defeats the entire purpose of the perk. The perk is supposed to function as a 'Plan B', in the event that the player's friends are unable to reach them before they bleed out. If the drone can't even perform this purpose because of its spawn location, the perk gives zero value whatsoever.

And if you thought that was bad, it gets worse. If the player's drone gets downed in the process of trying to revive their dying body, the 'dying body' phases out of existence and the drone becomes the dying body, having nothing but an M1911 on hand. Taking that death in drone form can happen quickly since the drone has no perks.
7. In terms of positives, Die Rise debuted what has been labeled by many as the greatest wall buy weapon in all of "Call of Duty" history. What wall buy debuted on this map?

Answer: AN94

The AN94 is an absolute powerhouse, and single handedly saves anyone who was not fortunate enough to get a Sliquifier from going without at least one good weapon. What's most eye opening about this weapon as a wall buy would be the 300 rounds and 30 round magazine the weapon comes with, by far eclipsing any other wall buy weapon which had been featured to this point.

When Pack-a-Punched, the AN94 keeps the good times rolling by becoming the Actuated Neutralizer 94000. The AN 94000 is the second best weapon on all of Die Rise, coming up short to the Sliquifier but beating out everything and anything else, even the Ray Gun and its Mark 2 variant.

As such, with or without the Sliquifier, the AN94 should be purchased off the wall in every single match on Die Rise, if the player wants to maximize their survival chances.
8. Originally, Die Rise did not have a Piggy Bank or Weapon Locker. This was added after launch in a patch. When specifically placing the AN94 or SVU-AS in the Weapon Locker, something funny will happen when trying to retrieve these weapons in a future game. What happens?

Answer: A different weapon is received entirely

The Weapon Locker is intended for a player to store a non-wonder weapon for use in a future game; if you have an MP5, store it in the Weapon Locker, end your game, start a new one then approach the Weapon Locker, you would be able to withdraw that very same MP5 and use it as normal.

However, the AN94 and SVU-AS work differently. These weapons are not available on the TranZit map at all. The game will still allow the player to store them on Die Rise. However, on a future game, going to retrieve either weapon has a funny result.

If the player stores an AN94 in the locker then comes back to it in a future game, they will instead receive a Galil. If the player stores the SVU-AS, they will receive a Barrett M82A1 on coming back to retrieve it.

If the player stores the AN94 or SVU-AS, then later comes to retrieve it in the same game they stored it, they will get their weapon as-is. It is only when ending the original game that the 'transformation' happens.
9. Die Rise takes place amidst a series of destroyed skyscrapers. There is a lot of vertical movement on this map, movement which can easily turn lethal for the player. PHD Flopper can be spotted when going down a freight elevator, a perfect solution to dealing with fall damage. How is PHD Flopper accessed on Die Rise?

Answer: It isn't

When boarding the freight elevator, players will find it to be a one-way trip. The elevator will fall wildly out of control until slamming onto the ground floor. As it speeds downward, really attentive players may spot a partition in the wall in front of them. Inside of this partition is a visible PHD Flopper perk machine. PHD Flopper renders buyers immune to fall damage, which would be absolutely perfect for this map.

Unfortunately, the machine is merely visual. It is impossible to actually enter the wall partition through normal gameplay. Even if the player gives themselves God Mode somehow and enters the room, Treyarch did not actually assign any sort of functionality to PHD Flopper, and the perk machine remains merely visual.

As such, it can be accurately said that Treyarch trolled the playerbase. They knew exactly what kind of perk players would be clamoring for after just a few matches on Die Rise. Why they didn't simply provide said perk as actually usable is a mystery.
10. For the Easter Egg Main Quest, the dilemma of Maxis vs Richtofen returns. However, interestingly, as "Black Ops 2" launched a long time ago, time would eventually reveal one of these sides as the true "canon" pathway. Which side of Die Rise is canon: Maxis or Richtofen?

Answer: Maxis

The actual game to be played changes significantly between the two sides, but actually has the exact same ending either way. The player will require different equipment based on which side they choose, and the Maxis side is the strictest with this. This side requires the Sliquifier, Ballistic Knife, Bowie Knife, Trample Steam and a separate player from the knife welder must have Galvaknuckles. For Richtofen, no knife-wielder is necessary, so it could theoretically be done by a solo player.

Events which take place in the Buried map assume that Maxis' side was chosen on Die Rise. This is actually reinforced later in "Black Ops 3" and then "Black Ops 4", confirming that the Maxis side on Die Rise is canon.
