Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The very first dungeon the player can access is the Fringefolk Hero's Grave. However, unless you're particularly skilled, actually entering this dungeon is a bad idea for a level 1 character. Why is this?

Answer: The dungeon is scaled for mid game

Fringefolk Hero's Grave has a series of Mausoleum Knights, two Grafted Scions, and the boss is an Ulcerating Tree Spirit. All of these enemies will effortlessly wipe out a brand new character who isn't being played by a really skilled, experienced player. Even a really good player will still struggle to defeat the Ulcerating Tree Spirit due to its massive size and huge health pool.

As such, unless you really trust in your own skills and want a really tough challenge, it's best to come back when in the level 60-80 range or higher.
2. The Murkwater Catacombs is the shortest dungeon in the entire game in terms of length, requiring the player to walk in a straight line, take a right, walk straight and find the boss within about fifteen seconds. Who is the boss?

Answer: Grave Warden Duelist

The Grave Warden Duelist is a large, buff man dual wielding two greathammers. This is not to be confused with the Frenzied Duelist, who wields a greataxe. The Grave Warden variant is very aggressive, boasting multiple attacks with lengthy delays that can prove tricky to master the dodge timing for as well as good movement speed to stop the player from making too much distance.

This one will drop the Banished Knight Engvall Spirit when defeated.
3. In the Stillwater Cave, the player encounters a Cleanrot Knight as the boss. Uniquely, the player might notice that this boss is actually gaining the effect of a Talisman which it will incidentally drop to the player should the player defeat the knight. What Talisman is this?

Answer: Winged Sword Insignia

The Winged Sword Insignia grants a moderate boost to all forms of damage output briefly if the player lands two or more hits in rapid succession. The Cleanrot Knight will frequently try and achieve this with her spear, and if she does, her body will briefly light up red just like the player's character, indicating that the knight is gaining the effect of the Talisman. Sadly, it's stronger iteration in the Rotten Winged Sword Insignia won't be found until end game, but even the lesser version is still very strong.
4. The Lakeside Crystal Cave is where Gideon Ofnir the All-Knowing tells the player to go to find an important 'Albinauric Woman'. Who does Gideon have the player search for here?

Answer: Latenna

Latenna the Albinauric rests next to her fallen wolf companion at the end of the dungeon, in an outside area next to a destroyed shack building. She will not cooperate with the player unless they have the left Haligtree Secret Medallion, which is given by Old Albus at the Albinauric Village.
5. The Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel's boss, the Crystallian, drops the extremely important Smithing Stone Miner's Bell Bearing (1). What does this do?

Answer: Allow the player to buy infinite Smithing Stone (1) and (2)

This is an absolutely crucial item if the player intends to use more than a single weapon in their playthrough. Given how massive "Elden Ring" is and how many creative and effective weapons there are, the average player will probably not pick a weapon right at the start of the game and just stick with it the entire way, so this item will allow the player to switch weapons without having to stay at +0 and do unusably poor damage.
6. In order to reach the Altus Plateau the first time, the player has a few options. One of them involves going through a dungeon, the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Who is the boss of the Ruin-Strewn Precipice?

Answer: Magma Wyrm Makar

Magma Wyrm Makar functions in the exact same way as generic Magma Wyrms, with no difference in moveset or behavior. However, unlike other encounters with Magma Wyrms, there is a giant indestructible structure in the center of the enormous boss room that shields Makar from view at the beginning of the fight and can potentially be used by him to drive the player into a corner with his magma breath- be careful of this and try to stay away from said structure.

Should the player want help, Great-Horned Tragoth is an available NPC summon. If the player has progressed Blackguard Braggart's questline, his summon sign will appear for this fight as well. Spirit Summons are available, making this just one of two fights in the entire game the player can potentially have up to three different allies for, the other being Godfrey, First Elden Lord/Hoarah Loux, Warrior.
7. If the player goes to Volcano Manor and defeats Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, they may be interested in using Rykard's Great Rune. To do so, the tower where they would restore the rune is at the end of a dungeon in the Altus Plateau. What dungeon is this?

Answer: Sealed Tunnel

The Sealed Tunnel houses lots of Smithing Stone (4)s, some (5)s and some Somber variations of these. As such, even if the player didn't care about Rykard's Great Rune, this dungeon is still advisable to explore for the upgrade materials alone. The Divine Tower of West Altus is where Rykard's rune can be restored, and it is found right after the back exit of the Sealed Tunnel.
8. The Altus Tunnel and Old Altus Tunnel are two dungeons which have weapon upgrade materials. However, the former has more materials in it than the latter. This initially doesn't seem like a big deal until one realizes there is a big difference between these two dungeons and their respective points of entry. Which of the following is true?

Answer: Old Altus Tunnel has a prerequisite

The Old Altus Tunnel has less overall upgrade materials in it than the Altus Tunnel. In spite of this, the player can freely access Altus Tunnel whenever they'd like, but the Old Altus Tunnel requires two Stonesword Keys to be granted entry. This rather silly dilemma will likely cause the player to ignore the Old Altus Tunnel completely, unless they are seriously desperate for Smithing Stone (4)s and (5)s.
9. If the player wants to get to work upgrading their Spirit Summons, the Wyndham Catacombs are a good place to go. Who is the boss here?

Answer: Erdtree Burial Watchdog

The seemingly one-thousandth appearance this boss makes is here, by itself, with a scepter instead of a sword to give off the misleading impression that this experience is going to be any different than the last twenty times you killed this thing.

When defeated, the Erdtree Burial Watchdog drops the Grave Glovewort Picker's Bell Bearing (1), giving the player the ability to buy infinite amounts of Grave Glovewort (1)s and (2)s. This will let them level any non-renowned Spirit to +2.
10. Heading into the Sage's Cave, the player will find themselves picking up some odd loot. It turns out that this isn't just some random cave. Which of the following is true about the Sage's Cave?

Answer: It's somebody's home

The Cave itself is being inhabited by Necromancer Garris. Loot found within turns out to be clothing he wears. Enemies fought here are large skeleton guards he has installed to defend his home, and the boss is unsurprisingly Garris himself.
11. In the Road's End Catacomb, the player will get to the boss and find a large spiritual Crucible Knight waiting for them. However, fighting the knight is actually not how to win the fight. Why is this?

Answer: The knight will infinitely respawn when killed

The actual boss is a Spiritcaller Snail, responsible for basically conjuring the knight. The player must find and kill the snail, which will cause the knight to permanently despawn and end the fight. The snail is initially invisible, but can be found by it having a large white glare around its position when the player gets close.

The knight will aggressively try to defend the snail however, so the player can't simply ignore it completely.
12. The Leyndell Catacombs is arguably the hardest dungeon to locate in the entire game. In return for the player's hard work, however, they will be rewarded with an incredible Talisman upon completing the dungeon. What is it?

Answer: Lord of Blood's Exultation

The Lord of Blood's Exultation grants its user a massive boost to all damage output for a moderate period of time if someone close to the player, or the player themselves, suffers from the Blood Loss status. It is worth noting that rapid instances of this status appearing will cause the effect from the Talisman to refresh, meaning an aggressive enough player with weaponry adept at causing this status could theoretically benefit from the Lord of Blood's Exultation for the majority or even entirety of a fight.

This is an extremely good Talisman that fits any build which uses a Bleed weapon or spell.
13. A really curious player who decides to search a boss room of all places will actually manage to locate a well hidden dungeon inside of a boss room. Whose boss room houses the War-Dead Catacombs?

Answer: Starscourge Radahn

Radahn's boss room is by far the largest in the entire game, and it ends on the shore of an otherwise very peaceful beach. Just to the side of the shore, to the farthest point north in Radahn's room, is the entrance to the War-Dead Catacombs. Here, the player can pick up really strong loot such as the Collapsing Stars sorcery and the Radahn Soldiers Spirit Summon.

The boss is a Putrid Tree Spirit who drops the Redmane Knight Ohga Spirit Summon and a Golden Seed when defeated.
14. This dungeon, in the Consecrated Snowfield, showcases a dead dragon lying right towards the front of the dungeon, and the boss wields a Legendary weapon which it will drop to the player if the player defeats it. What dungeon is this?

Answer: Cave of the Forlorn

The dead dragon doesn't actually do anything, it's just placed there for (presumably) decorative reasons. The boss of this dungeon is a Misbegotten Crusader wielding the Golden Order Greatsword, one of the game's nine Legendary weapons. It will drop this sword on defeat.
15. The only dungeon in the game the player can loot an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone to finally max out their weapon is also the only instance of a Rememberance Boss appearing in a dungeon. Who is the boss of the Yelough-Anix Tunnel?

Answer: Astel, Stars of Darkness

Astel has been seriously buffed since the first time the player saw it. It deals way, way more damage and has more than four times the amount of health it had when fought at the Lake of Rot. Given that the area is intended for an end game player, this is not terribly surprising. Defeating Astel here will reward the player with the extremely powerful Meteorite of Astel sorcery along with 110,000 runes.
