Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Elden Ring" was the first From Software game to introduce an alternative type of Sorcery based spellcasting. Gravity Magic differs from normal sorceries greatly in one singular way. What is the major difference between Gravity Magic and other sorceries?

Answer: Gravity Magic deals physical damage

All Gravity Magic spells deal purely physical damage. This has a niche in sorcery builds by allowing these builds to have a better time facing foes with large Magic resistances. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon is undoubtedly the best instance of showcasing Gravity Magic's utility- she has a massive 80% damage absorption against Magic, but her resistances against all forms of physical damage are pathetic, meaning Gravity Magic will often hit Rennala for three times the damage other sorceries would, sometimes more.
2. Getting access to the coveted Gavel of Haima and Cannon of Haima spells can be a little annoying. This is because the player will need to have a particular emote in their possession in order to break a seal and enter the tower where these spells are located. What emote do they need?

Answer: "Erudition"

By performing the entire Erudition emote in the Converted Tower, the seal on the doorway will break. The player must have given Sorceror Thops the Academy Glintstone Key prior to having done this for it to work.
3. The Night's Cavalry wield fearsome weapons on their intimidating funeral steeds. They also wear cool armor that happens to have pretty good absorption stats. If the player wanted to get the armor for themselves, where would they need to go?

Answer: Consecrated Snowfield

Here, the player can fight a Night's Cavalry duo fight. If they win, they will be rewarded with the entire Night's Cavalry armor set. The cavalry can be encountered a total of seven different times elsewhere, but only here will they drop the armor set.
4. Leonine Misbegotten and Commander Niall are two totally different bosses. So different, in fact, they're located about as far away from each other as possible, with the former being on the dead southernmost point of the entire game, the latter being almost as far north as can be. Yet, in spite of their many, many differences, they oddly enough have one really weird thing in common. What do these two have in common?

Answer: Boss fight music

The track known as "Old Warriors" will play for both of these boss fights, again despite the fact they share absolutely nothing else in common. The track makes sense for Niall given his backstory, though the same can't really be said about Leonine Misbegotten.
5. Traveling through Liurnia of the Lakes at night, the player may encounter a Death Bird boss fight. They can find a bigger, badder version of this enemy as the Death-Rite Bird in the Mountaintop of the Giants. There is, however, one key difference between these two. What is it?

Answer: Death Bird can only be fought at night

The Death-Rite Bird is constantly available to be fought, while the Death Bird only shows up at night. There isn't too much explanation for why this differentiation is, but it could perhaps have something to do with how the Mountaintop of the Giants is a massively snow filled area, Liurnia of the Lakes is not, and these two birds mainly make use of Ghostflame Magic. Perhaps Liurnia during the day is too warm...?
6. When entering the boss fight against the Beast Clergyman for the very first time, he will say to the player: "Thou who approacheth Destined Death, I _________." Can you fill in the blank correctly?

Answer: will not have it stolen from me again

This line directly references the Night of the Black Knives event in the game's lore. This event is when a group of Black Knife Assassins managed to steal the Rune of Death and used it to assassinate Godwyn the Golden. Deeply ashamed over that event, Gurranq the Beast Clergyman is vowing to the player that such an event will not be repeated given that he guards the Rune of Death which the player needs to burn the Erdtree.
7. There are some enemies in this game with huge health bars. Who has the single highest health bar in the entire game?

Answer: Greyoll, Mother of All Dragons

Despite standing at an estimated 27 feet tall, Radahn is actually the odd one out here, with just 9,572 HP, by far the lowest of the four options here. Rykard has a staggeringly high 81,000 HP between his two phases, but this actually comes up slightly short to Greyoll, Mother of All Dragons, who has him beat at just under 87,000 HP. Fire Giant, meanwhile, sits at just over 43,000 HP.
8. Sleep is status which "Elden Ring" newly introduced. However, the game doesn't offer the player too many ways to make use of this status. Which of the following is a weapon or tool type which has a particular armament that can cause Sleep?

Answer: Torch

The St Trina's Torch causes Sleep build up when it is used to hit something. It's Ash of War is known as Fires or Slumber. Uniquely, this will cause the player to blow on their torch to basically breathe fire. However, it won't actually deal any damage, instead inflicting massive Sleep build up when performed.
9. If the player explores the Roundtable Hold, they may find themselves jumping off a lowly elevated balcony into a room where they'll be invaded. The invader is Mad Tongue Alberich, and he casts some very strange, rarely seen spells. Which of the following is one of them?

Answer: Briars of Punishment

Briars of Punishment inflicts a slight amount of damage into the user and forces them into a lengthy startup animation. If the user actually manages to get the spell off without being interrupted, their target will suddenly see a massive amalgamation of throned vines emit from the ground that will simply stab upward and try to send them flying.

It is an absolutely horrible spell in every way. Funny enough, because of the recoil damage upon use, it's possible to get Alberich to accidentally kill himself with it, which is quite amusing.
10. If the player summons Melina to help them fight King Morgott, they'll witness her using a fancy dagger capable of shooting golden beams. The player hasn't had the opportunity to loot their own Blade or Calling, but that chance is coming up soon. Where can the Blade of Calling be looted?

Answer: Grand Lift of Rold

When descending down the lift, the player will want to face the southeast. Roughly 3/4ths of the way down, a small passageway will briefly appear in the wall that the player needs to quickly scurry through. Once done, simply walking down a small hallway and opening a door will reveal an item drop that is the Blade of Calling.

The Blade of Calling unsurprisingly mainly scales with Faith and Dexterity. It's Ash of War is something the player will have seen Melina perform frequently, involving the user jumping up high and using the dagger to shoot a big golden beam at the target which deals a surprisingly high amount of poise damage.
11. The Leyndell Catacombs are quite the brainteaser for a curious player. When proceeding through it, the player will find themselves forced into combat with an Omen. After doing some teleporting around the area, the player will return to this area to find the Omen's corpse plus a new Omen examining it. It isn't obvious, but this sequence is a trap the game is trying to trick the player with. In order to not fall into the trap, what should the player absolutely not do here?

Answer: Confront the new Omen

The new Omen has been given stats far superior to the dead Omen, and this will likely be enough to allow it to overwhelm the player. The idea here is that Leyndell is a looping dungeon- the player gets to the end, finds a treasure chest, opens it, and the chest teleports them back to the start. Each time a teleportation occurs, there will be tiny, subtle differences from the last time that will slowly unravel the true solution to escaping the puzzle. One such difference is with the Omens here, as the game does not intend for the player to have backtracked this far, and the Omen being this overbearing is indicative of this fact.
12. With the way "Elden Ring" is structured, one person's playthrough versus another's can look almost entirely different. In truth, there are not that many bosses which are 'mandatory' to fight in order to eventually finish the game. Who is the earliest mandatory boss?

Answer: There is no definitive answer to this

Godrick is almost always one of the two shardbearers the average player will beat to unlock Leyndell, as he is simply positioned earliest in the game as far as Demi-Gods go. However, the player could opt to skip him if they really wanted to, as they can pick any two shardbearers they want. Given that the only required content before Leyndell is two shardbearers, and because the player has full autonomy on who those two shardbearers are, Godrick is not a mandatory boss fight, neither is Margit, and this rationale will also dispel the notion that any boss fought before Leyndell is mandatory.

The player could theoretically choose to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood along with Starscourge Radahn, the two hardest pre-Leyndell shardbearers, if they wanted. Because of this sheer level of customization, this question has no definite answer.
13. When powerstancing a particular weapon, the player will need to press the left-handed light attack button (typically referred to as an 'L1') to swing both weapons at the same time. The Ornamental Straightsword and Starscourge Greatsword are the exceptions to this rule. What button must the player press with those two weapons to swing both blades at once?

Answer: Right-handed light attack (R1)

In order to dual wield both weapons encased within the Ornamental Straightsword or Starscourge Greatsword, the player will need to press the same button commands they'd have to press if they were trying to two-hand the weapon, as doing this will simply prompt the character to take out the second weapon and have one in each hand.

The controls will apparently treat it as if the player has two-handed a weapon, as the left-handed light attack will prompt the character to hold up one of the weapons as if blocking with a shield, a similar instance to if the player was two-handing a weapon.

As such, the right-handed light attack will prompt the character to simultaneously swing both weapons.
14. In the game's lore, it is said that Starscourge Radahn and Castellan Jerren one day swore an oath to each other. What oath was this?

Answer: Grant each other an honorable death

The idea was that if Radahn or Jerren's quality of life declined steeply as a result of any combat, that the other one would ensure that they didn't have to suffer before dying. Jerren would end up fulfilling his end of the oath by organizing the Radahn Festival and gathering a swath of mighty warriors who were strong enough to put Radahn down after his wits were essentially lost to the scarlet rot.
15. After defeating Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy and reloading the area, the player will find quite the grisly site. Tanith, the Volcano Manor's proprietress, is kneeling next to Rykard's disembodied head, facing the stump. What is she doing here?

Answer: Devouring Rykard's innards

Horrifyingly, Tanith seems to believe that eating the entirety of Rykard's remains will somehow resuscitate him and the God-Devouring Serpent, allowing them to basically regrow inside of her body and turn into a massive monster as they were before. There is nothing in the game to suggest that this is even possible, but there's also nothing that shoots down the notion as possible. Either way, nothing ever comes of this and, as far as the game is concerned, Rykard is done and dusted.
