Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There are three different ways the player can arrive at the Volcano Manor. The arguably most simplistic involves traveling through the North Altus Plateau on horseback and going straight to the front door. If the player does this, they'll have to go through three bosses, one mandatory, to get there. Who is the mandatory boss?

Answer: Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast

Magma Wyrm and Demi-Human Queen Maggie will attack the player, but they can sneak past both via crouch walking or sprinting, or if they're a bit more daring, they can try to use Torrent to ride past them and evade them. However, neither method will work on the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast.

The player cannot sneak past it, because in order to get to it, they have to climb up a ladder or jump up via Torrent, and either method will get its attention immediately. If the player tries to ride past it, they will be immediately pulled back in by the beast's Starcalling Cry, and it will do this every single time ceaselessly, denying the player the ability to rush ahead and threatening to straight up end them via the Starcalling Cry's damage output if they try too many times.

As such, slaying the beast is necessary if the player chooses this method to get to the Volcano Manor.
2. Another method of accessing the Volcano Manor can come with the help of an NPC named Rya. She will request that the player gets her an item that a thug stole from her. Where does this take place?

Answer: Liurnia of the Lakes

Thankfully, the thug who stole Rya's Necklace is a mere sixty second walk away, as he can be found by simply traveling north. Here, the player can either buy the necklace from him, or they can kill him and take it from him. While killing him may seem like a good idea, this is actually a very bad idea. If the player buys the necklace, he will turn into a merchant who sells arguably the best consumable item in the game- the Boiled Prawn.

These are not only very cheap, but they provide a crucially important 15% negation to all incoming physical damage for two whole minutes. If the player chooses to buy the necklace, it will cost a meagre 1,000 runes.
3. The third and final, arguably most complicated way to get to the Volcano Manor is a very weird one. The player must travel to the Raya Lucaria Academy, go down a massive occilating lift and allow themselves to be killed by an enemy, a mini boss. What enemy must do the killing here?

Answer: Abductor Virgin

Specifically, the Abductor Virgin must kill the player with its grab attack. It won't work any other way. When the player respawns, they'll do so in a fairly dark, desolate area in the Volcano Manor. Here, they must progress through the Seethewater Cave, defeat the Abductor Virgin Duo, and they will then emerge from the cave in the 'back yard' of the Volcano Manor.
4. Upon approaching the head of the house, Tanith, she will almost immediately proclaim the house's political stance on the Erdtree and Greater Will. Do they support the Erdtree and Greater Will?

Answer: No

The Volcano Manor is a select bunch of combat tested individuals who seek to have the Erdtree burned and the Fractured Marika destroyed. To this end, doing Tanith's questline will involve the player invading the worlds of three different Erdtree knights, while Recusant Bernahl's questline involves joining him for an assassination mission of his own.
5. Tanith presents herself as the head of the house, but it turns out she actually isn't. Who is the lord of the Volcano Manor?

Answer: Rykard

Rykard is indeed the head of the Volcano Manor, though he is notable for being the only member not actually present when the player arrives at the estate.
6. A curious player may notice that there is a second floor to the Manor, and they might go upstairs to investigate. Initially, they'll find nothing, but upon spending a good deal of time there, they'll eventually witness a very notable event take place. What happens?

Answer: An NPC invades the player

Inquisitor Ghiza will invade the player if they spend more than 45 seconds on the second floor. He wields the Ghiza's Wheel, and he will drop this weapon when defeated. The Ghiza's Wheel is an awesome aesthetic weapon, functioning as a very primitive chainsaw weapon of sorts, and it primarily scales off of Strength.

It inflicts 50 bleed build up on contact, and this can be raised to 60 bleed build up when it gets maxed out at +10.
7. The player will eventually meet Rya one way or another. When they do, she will appear as a simple, old and frail woman. However, there is much more to her than meets the eye: she is not human at all! What species is Rya?

Answer: Serpent

As it would happen, "Rya" isn't her real name either: that would be Zorayas (pronounced ZOH-RYE-US). This is revealed if the player enters her quarters after completing one part of Tanith's questline, interacting with Recusant Bernahl, and then reloading the area upon turning in said quest to Tanith or talking to Bernahl.
8. If the player completes "Rya's" questline, they will get quite a peculiar reward, the Daedicar's Woe. It is a talisman. What does it do when equipped?

Answer: Doubles all incoming damage

This applies to all incoming damage. Passive damage inflicted by status effects such as Scarlet Rot or Blackflame will be unaffected. The Daedicar's Woe very simply doubles all direct damage taken. This would be good for if the player wanted to really test their skills with a challenge run of sorts, but is otherwise obviously a terrible idea to equip.
9. An all-time classic From Software NPC can potentially appear at the Volcano Manor. This man, a mainstay in every From Software game between 2009 and 2022, can appear if the player previously encountered him at the Murkwater Cave. Who is this?

Answer: Patches the Untethered

Patches can appear at the Volcano Manor. The player can unlock unique dialogue with him if they got to the manor via the Abductor Virgin route, as dialogue with him at Murkwater Cave can lead to him telling the player to do this. However, when he told the player to allow the Abductor Virgin to kill them, it would take them to the Altus Plateau, not here.

This is yet another classic instance of a prank played by the (in)famous fan favorite Patches.
10. If the player decides to travel through the backend of the manor, they'll find an enormous area to travel through, a very typical map for a From Software game. Along the way, they'll encounter a boss a the Temple of Eiglay. Who is it?

Answer: Godskin Noble

This is the earliest the player can encounter a Godskin Noble. When defeated, he will drop his weapon, the Godskin Stitcher.
11. The player will arrive in the final room of the area, where they'll encounter the God-Devouring Serpent. If fought with the player's current weaponry, they'll find their attacks do next to no damage. The solution can be found via an item drop in the boss room. This will give the player the weapon for the job. What is it?

Answer: Serpent Hunter

Rykard's first phase is fighting against his 'pet' of sorts, the God-Devouring Serpent. The Serpent has over 81,000 hit points, meaning 'regular' weapons will be ineffective. In this specific boss fight, the Serpent Hunter gains special properties that skyrocket its damage output and its range, doing acceptable damage to fight the God-Devouring Serpent.

This is very similar to "Demon's Souls" with the Storm King or "Dark Souls 3" with Yhorm the Giant, as both were bosses the player couldn't effectively fight with their own weapons, but both boss fights had an area where a weapon drop, the Storm Ruler, could be used to fight them.
12. If the player defeats the God-Devouring Serpent, Praetor Rykard will finally appear. He will nod in approval at the player defeating the serpent, and he will offer them the opportunity to "join the Serpent King as family. Together, we will devour the very gods!" What options are presented to the player upon Rykard's offer?

Answer: Nothing

Rykard making this offer takes place during a cutscene cinematic. The very moment he makes the offer, the cutscene ends and the fight with Rykard begins. The player is never even remotely given the ability to respond to Rykard's offer.
13. In the game's lore and when interacting with other NPCs, Rykard is always referred to as 'Praetor Rykard'. However, when fighting him as a boss, his title is "Rykard, Lord of _________". What correctly fills in the blank?

Answer: Blasphemy

In an effort to support the estate's anti-Erdtree efforts, Rykard made a pact with the God-Devouring Serpent and submitted himself to it, inheriting its power and essentially disowning his family name in the process. Given that his family consists entirely of other demi-gods and three straight up gods, this was clearly a very big deal.

As such, he was labeled as 'blasphemous', a label he seems to have embraced and possibly even cherished.
14. Upon defeating Rykard, the player will obtain his Remembrance. When turning in to Finger Reader Enia, one of their rewards will be a weapon. What weapon is this?

Answer: Blasphemous Blade

The Blasphemous Blade is the player-appropriate version of Rykard's weapon. It is a flat out amazing weapon primarily scaling in Strength and Faith. It deals split Physical and Fire damage. It's main claims to fame stem from its unique passive effect and its Ash of War.

For the former, every time the player defeats an enemy, they will immediately restore 4% of their max HP as long as they have this weapon equipped- the enemy doesn't have to die by this blade.

For the latter, the Taker's Flame Ash of War is flat out brilliant, emitting a blast of flames forward and healing the player for 70 HP for each enemy hit by the blast. It doesn't use much FP, does a lot of damage, and heals for quite a lot.

The blade single handedly turns gank fights on their head, and makes remarkably challenging fights against the Valiant Gargoyles and Godskin Duo significantly more doable. It is a fantastic reward for the Remembrance.
15. If the weapon is not to the player's liking, Rykard's Remembrance can also be turned in for a spell. What spell is this?

Answer: Rykard's Rancor

This is a player-appropriate version of the spell Rykard uses. The player's version retains most of the same time-based properties, just with only one singular skull being fired and leaving behind a trail of exploding flames instead of the dozens Rykard is able to use.

It uniquely demands an 18 for a Faith requirement alongside its 42 for Intelligence, being just one of two sorceries in the game to have a Faith requirement.
