Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Following in her father's footsteps, Lara spends this game hunting for a dagger and then for which of these items, required to stop the apocalypse from taking place?

Answer: A silver box

Lara seems to be on the same trail as Trinity is-- again-- and the game starts with her and Jonah travelling to Cozumel, Mexico to hunt for a specific Mayan ruin. What she finds there, a dagger, turns out to be one of the keys to the game's plot, allegedly sparking an apocalyptic scenario that will have her flying (and crash landing) in the jungles of Peru.

The new goal, for herself and the enemies, is to locate the mysterious Silver Box of Ix Chel which, when opened, could commence 'The Cleansing', an event that would allow its user to rebuild the world the way they see fit.

Naturally, this could be bad.
2. Which one of these difficulty levels is the most difficult of the set?

Answer: Deadly Obsession

There are a number of difficulties that you can partake in, each scaling up with how tough foes are and how much more intense climbing and obstacles can be. 'Smart and Resourceful' signifies an easy run, 'Rite of Passage' is the normal difficulty, 'One with the Jungle' is Hard Mode, and 'Deadly Obsession' is the toughest.

In the 'Very Hard' mode, Lara has no innate health regen, loses the hit marker reticle, sees increased enemy health and damage, and has reduced timers on saving grabs while jumping and climbing. Perhaps more interesting is that all base camps must be lit; Lara can not auto-save in 'Deadly Obsession'.
3. In this adventure, Lara can become a more versatile climber by using which new skill?

Answer: Wall Run

While the previous two "Tomb Raider" games imbued Lara with the ability to climb certain types of walls with ease, "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" improved on these skills, giving Lara her old Climbing Axes but letting her rappel, wall run, and rappel swing to reach more spots than ever before. Throughout the game, Lara could also upgrade her climbing traits through unlocked skills, improving her speed (amongst other things). Nearly every Challenge Tomb encountered has some sort of climbing component, naturally.
4. This game approaches skills via a tree system that makes use of three categories. Which is NOT one of them?

Answer: Survivor

Lara can learn skills three ways: she can level up at a Base Camp; she can achieve them through specific story moments; she can receive them from altars found in Challenge Tombs. Each of these also happens to fall into one of three categories and she can build in any direction at any time.

The catch is that, generally, she'll need to spend one, two, or three Skill Points and some need to be unlocked through progression on the tree. The Seeker trait opens more abilities in exploration and observation, the Warrior trait is for combat and weapon abilities, and the Scavenger category opens up for crafting and stealth.

It is possible to unlock everything in the game in one playthrough, though it will take a bit of grinding.
5. Which of these do you require to open a Conquistador Chest?

Answer: Lockpick

There are a handful of these unique treasure chests throughout the game and while Lara would've been able to use her Climbing Axe for such an item in past games, these ones require a special Lockpick. It's not particularly easy to get your hands on either; you'll need to complete a side quest in Paititi, involving locating Takiy's Dice, to meet a merchant by the name of Moraekah.

She'll have the Lockpick amongst her wares, and if you can't afford it, you can always buy it later...you'll just need to locate her in one of a handful of random locations in the game.
6. All of these are Monolith languages that Lara can become fluent in except which?

Answer: Incan

As with earlier games, Lara can take up a handful of long-unused languages in order to better understand the environments around her, building up her proficiencies by reading artifacts and murals found in the game. In "Shadow of the Tomb Raider", she can level up Mam, Quechua, and Yucatec, and each of those will rank up from Limited understanding to Proficient and Fluent. All of these will also open up more opportunities to read Monoliths, giving access to more hidden treasures.
7. After Unuratu's death, whose ascension can Lara aid during her time in Paititi?

Answer: Etzli

The path to Etzli's ascension to the throne begins before Unuratu is killed at the end of the game's second act though she definitely spurs the need for the event to happen. While Etzli will take up the mantle quite quickly to ensure that Paititi has stable rule, Lara can aid Uchu, found in the Skull Cave, in locating three different items necessary for Etzli's coronation.

The last of these can only be found and collected after Lara finishes her exploration in the Mission of San Juan, so you can theoretically get as close as possible to the game's point of no return segment before Etzli takes the crown.
8. Which of these acts as currency with the game's several merchants?

Answer: Gold pieces

While "Rise of the Tomb Raider" had a single merchant in the Soviet Installation, Lara has plenty of opportunities in "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" to buy and sell, filling out her inventory with supplies, weapons, rare gear, and special items as she comes across them.

In Peru, she'll be using gold pieces as base currency though she can also find rare gems around the map to sell off directly and fill her purse. These sales can be done with various vendors in Kuwaq Yaku, Paititi (with several people), and in the Mission of San Juan.
9. Excluding the game's DLC content, how many Challenge Tombs can Lara find in "Shadow of the Tomb Raider"?

Answer: Nine

Taking a trip off the beaten path (or the main adventure route) can be quite rewarding as Lara will get the chance to locate a number of hidden tombs to (go figure) raid them for their valuables. There are nine such locations in the game (when excluding DLC content), and in each, Lara will need to climb, swim, or run around solving puzzles to find her way to a waiting stele that, when opened, will grant her a new, unlockable skill, improving her capabilities with weapons and her passive abilities, sometimes beyond what here normal skills would. None of these are mandatory, but they are worthwhile!
10. The game will culminate in a battle against Amaru, who bears the power of which often-referenced Mayan god?

Answer: Kukulkan

As the game comes to its conclusion, Lara will try to infiltrate the pyramid in the middle of the City of the Serpent (located in a volcano!), only doing so with the help of the Yaaxil, and when she reaches the final altar she'll find Amaru plunging the dagger into the Silver Box of Ix Chel, imbuing himself with the power of Kukulkan. Lara will need to get her hands on the dagger and fight back hand-to-hand, killing Amaru and taking the power for herself. If Lara can withstand temptation, she'll get help from the protectors of the region and save the sun, in turn protecting Paititi as Unuratu and Amaru always wanted.
