Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Much of the adventure takes place in the Amazon, but Lara commences the story by searching for a relic, underground, in which part of Central America?

Answer: Cozumel

This adventure starts with Lara and Jonah in a crashing plane that plummets into the Peruvian Amazon. As Lara attempts to take control and level the aircraft, it splits in two, the cockpit separating from the rest of the plane. It separates Jonah, Lara, and their unconscious pilot, Miguel, before impacting with the ground below.

Two days before the crash, Lara and Jonah were in Cozumel, following a lead from Lara's father's notes. After getting stuck in the crevasse of a cave, Lara climbed through, extracting herself from certain danger to emerge into a trap-laden series of ruins and tunnels. There on Trinity's trail (once again) she located a massive relic but hit one of the waiting traps, triggering a cave-in that both of them narrowly escaped.

In this, however, they were able to glean hints towards another destination-- one bearing a pink fish and a silver-crowned mountain. Before attempting to intercept a man by the name of Dr. Dominguez in Cozumel proper, Lara deduced that the riddle was, in fact, directions to a spot in the Amazon. They would need to head to Peru.
2. The Key to Ix Chel's heart, found by Lara, allegedly has which power?

Answer: It brings on the apocalypse

Lara pursued Dr. Dominguez through Cozumel but quickly realized that he may have been the ringleader of Trinity's operations in the area, and worse still, his efforts in the region have led to the discovery of a hidden Maya pyramid in a cave by the sea. Lara would need to climb into the tunnels there, using her abilities to scale the cliff walls, using mine carts and weighted platforms to find her way through to a central platform inside, all in pursuit of a treasure meant to reflect the dual goddesses of Ix Chel and Chak Chel, representing the full moon and the new moon.

The catch was that the treasure found here, a golden dagger meant to be the Key to Ix Chel's heart, would be quite valuable, not only because it was allegedly made to open the Silver Box of Ix Chel and summon the Mayan Creation God, Kukulkan, but it would trigger a series of apocalyptic disasters to spell the end of the world and the death of the sun.

In escaping the dig site, Lara would end up falling into Dominguez's clutches, being forced to relinquish the dangerous treasure. That was when the tsunami came through Cozumel, sending Lara careening through the devastated city streets. When she finally surfaced and reunited with Jonah, the two quickly realized that they would need to race to the hidden city, wherever it was in Peru, to get the box and, once again, stop Trinity from harming the world.
3. Crash-landing in Peru, Lara has to fight which of these animals which had, earlier, killed her pilot, Miguel?

Answer: Jaguar

While Lara and Jonah fly over the Amazon, their plane is struck by hail from an unexpected storm and while they see the direction they need to head, the aircraft doesn't make it, instead splitting in two and crashing in the jungle. Lara awakens in a tree, alive, but there's work to be done to find the others and survive.

Following a flare, Lara will traverse the region, make and find weapons, and locate a walkie-talkie that she uses to try and hunt down both Miguel (her pilot) and Jonah, but upon reaching the right spot, she finds that the former has been killed by jaguars, one of the fiercest predators of the region.

Lara will reach the other half of the plane, find Jonah still alive, collect her gear, and beeline for the nearby village of Kuwaq Yaku where they can finally take a breather. It's still a day away, but it's a good opportunity for the pair to clear out the area and make camp for a night. During this fitful sleep, Lara will dream of her childhood at Croft manor, solving massive puzzles in her own home, and her father's untimely death.

Although Lara and Jonah will make it to Kuwaq Yaku the next day, they'll discover that Trinity is already there. At the very least, they can ambush the unexpecting mercenaries, stock up on weapons, and proceed with new resolve.
4. Which of these is not one of the Trials that Lara encounters en route to the Hidden City?

Answer: Trial of the Caiman

Lara and Jonah will eventually arrive at the village of Kuwaq Yaku to find actual people living amongst the ancient temples they believe to act as a gateway to the Hidden City. Abby, one of the locals, points them to where they need to go-- the nearby ruins-- where Lara might be able to pursue the symbols she found in Cozumel. The catch is that these temples are not Mayan, as would be assumed based on that earlier train of thought.

What Lara finds, hidden behind an old mural of Ix Chel and Chak Chel, is a route inward to the 'Path of the Living', which leads her into a temple hidden amongst the mountains. It turns out, however, that Trinity is already there, attempting to blast their way in. Lara will need to dispatch them before delving into a dig site beneath an old oil drilling site; the excavation there will give way to a temple and, eventually, the 'Path of the Dead'. And as this route passes back towards Kuwaq Yaku, it'll become apparent that the Legend of Pishtaco, which the locals believe in, might actually be true.

All of this will take Lara back to the entrance of the temple at Kuwaq Yaku to follow a path that takes her through a trio of trials-- the Trial of the Jaguar, the Trial of the Spider, and the Trial of the Eagle-- before dropping her off, at last, at the Hidden City she sought out.
5. The cultists' leader, Amaru, is none other than which person?

Answer: Dr. Dominguez

Lara, hunting through the Peruvian jungles beyond Kuwaq Yaku for the Serpent with the Silver Eye, will quickly come an indigenous child trapped by Trinity tribesmen, and saving him will allow Lara to gain audience with Unuratu, the Queen of the Hidden City of Paititi. As Lara will discover, Paititi appears to be thriving, even in light of local cultists who seek to proffer a sacrifice to the Mayan God of Destruction, Kukulkan.

Lara will indicate that the box she seeks is connected to the Moon Goddess Ix Chel, but to do this, Unuratu notes, Lara will need to head to a place of death and sacrifice, a site within the nearby mountains that few ever return from. Fortunately, Unuratu is looking for the same thing to stop Amaru, the head of the cultists, who Lara quickly deduces is none other than Dr. Dominguez, who was born in the area and set out to remake the world with the newfound dagger. He's not far either; Lara witnesses his return to Paititi in-person.

Meeting Unuratu's son, Etzli, near the mountain, she proceeds onward alone, aiming to get to the box before the next cataclysm hits. He advises her here, noting that Trinity's cultists will patrol the ruins, but if she gets in, locating the smell of death, then she'll be able to find the Silver Box of Ix Chel and escape through the old irrigation system leading back to Paititi.
6. In the Eye of the Serpent, Lara will encounter the Yaaxil. What are these, according to the murals found there?

Answer: Goddesses of protection

Lara makes it into the sacrificial chambers, climbing up through the Belly of the Serpent until she finds an unexpected item at the end of the trial-- a silver serpent to be used as a key which, with it being left there, means that Trinity hasn't made it to the box, wherever it is. She'll reunite with Etzli outside, but only moments before he's captured by Trinity's tribesmen and taken to the barracks.

In the meantime, Unuratu will let Lara know that the serpent item is actually a key that will allow her to enter the mountain temple adjacent to the barracks, and it might be why the cult is stationed there in the first place, hunting for the Silver Box. Lara can pass through the nearby salt mine to find her way in, infiltrate the barracks, and let Unuratu and her forces in to save Etzli. Unfortunately, it will mean that Unuratu is captured instead.

Lara will find her way to the Eye of the Serpent and make her way into the temple found within a gorgeous cenote there, but what the temple looks like on the outside does not beget its terrifying contents-- dangerous passages, traps, and what appears to be savages out for blood. The truth, as Lara finds, is that these 'savages' are actually the Yaaxil, goddesses of protection, there to protect the room containing the Silver Box of Ix Chel until the sun's renewal. The problem is that the box isn't there, and when an earthquake destroys part of the temple, Lara has to race back to Paititi dodging their attacks.
7. It turns out that someone already found the Silver Box of Ix Chel, and it was four hundred years before Lara arrived. Which of these was it?

Answer: A Spanish missionary

Lara sets out alone to collect Unuratu from prison, breaking her out under Amaru and the cultists' nose, but to do this she'll have to infiltrate the eastern part of Paititi where the cultists are commencing their sacrificial rites. Scouting solo in her Serpentguard garb, she'll be supported by Etzli (who knows the password to get inside) and she'll arrive just in time to hear a heated discussion wherein Amaru and Unuratu, arguing for their causes, will reveal that the Silver Box of Ix Chel won't be where they look for it-- it's already been collected, four hundred years ago, by a Spanish missionary named Andres Lopez.

It doesn't stop the fact that if Amaru wins, Trinity would rule and rebuild the rold in their image, and Unuratu doesn't believe in this cause. When Lara finally executes the prison break, she and Unuratu will maneuver their way back through the temple and discuss the dire situation at hand-- the eclipse is upon them, and when that happens, the box will compel someone to open it. Unuratu admits that she, in spite of her willpower, will be drawn to the box like Amaru is, but there is a possibility she can pull away from the problem.

All Lara needs to do is head to the tomb of the Last Emperor of Paititi. Maybe she can find what she needs there. The problem is that the cultists are eager for blood.
8. Lara will be forced to confront Commander Rourke and Trinity in which perhaps-unexpected location in the jungle?

Answer: An oil field

When Lara and Unuratu head back into Paititi they'll come across crowds of people watching as the cultists begin to kill, sacrificing rebels to Kukulkan, and after passing through the audience, the pair will make it to the tomb they need. The problem is that they'll get caught out at the last minute with Unuratu getting shot and killed by Commander Roarke, Amaru's right-hand man. Before she passes, Unuratu will hand Lara an amulet to give to Etzli, an effort to cement him as Paititi's heir-apparent. With her final words, she will remind Lara that the box will tempt her, but she needs to resist, and only in doing this will she be able to create her own destiny.

Lara and Jonah will head out shortly after, handing the amulet off to Etzli before hopping into a canoe and paddling out towards Kuwaq Yaku. They won't make it quite so easily though-- Trinity will fly in via helicopter, open fire, and separate Lara and Jonah once again. It'll lead Lara deeper into the jungle and then to the Porvenir Oil Fields where Roarke, communicating over Lara's walkie-talkie, will egg her on, insisting that he's killed Jonah.

Committed to bringing down Trinity in vengeance, Lara will (fortunately) stumble upon a local recipe for Fear Arrows and infiltrate the nearby refinery, killing many of Trinity's armed mercenaries to keep them at bay. To her shock, when she's the last one standing, it will appear that Jonah was never killed. The two have one more destination though-- the nearby Mission of San Juan, where Andres Lopez may have taken the Silver Box of Ix Chel.
9. The crypt beneath the Mission of San Juan will have puzzles themed around which of these?

Answer: The Stations of the Cross

Arriving in the Mission of San Juan with Abby and Jonah, Lara will start investigating the old library near the local cemetery and come up with exactly what she needs, a path underground made by Andres Lopez and his men, designed to act as a series of puzzles relating to the Stations of the Cross. At the end of this, Lara and Jonah will find Lopez' body, buried away inside with the Silver Box of Ix Chel in his hands. Taking it, however, leads to more coincidental tremors, and Lara nabs it as the chambers begin to flood.

When Lara surfaces, Jonah will already be in Amaru's clutches and Lara will be forced to confront the Trinity foe, in turn discovering that Dr. Dominguez was the man responsible for having her father killed, a consequence of his getting too close to Paititi and risking their getting discovered. All of this ends with a long battle through the area wherein Lara pushes through Trinity's forces to reunite with Jonah. She'll make it just in time to reach him, but not before Amaru can take off with the Silver Box in his helicopter.

After the flood comes through and washes Lara away, Lara and Jonah head back to Paititi, speak to Etzli, and plan for a final assault. It's now or never to save the sun.
10. In the end, once Lara faces off against Amaru, she will be presented with a temptation of her own. Which of these does she restrain herself from giving in to?

Answer: Reuniting with her parents

After speaking to the newly-coronated Etzli about a gameplan, everyone sets out for the pyramid at the City of the Serpent in the heart of a volcanic crater with Lara proceeding, solo, as a sniper. Things change quickly though; as Trinity starts to fight back, Lara has to advance deeper into the crumbling city to find common ground with the leader of the Yaaxil, a woman who Lara realizes is the 'Crimson Fire' that Unuratu spoke of earlier. It means she's in the right place.

Lara will eventually come across Amaru as he strikes the Silver Box of Ix Chel with the dagger, imbuing himself with the power of Kukulkan. It'll take keeping his guards at bay and moving in for hand-to-hand combat for Lara to get the upper-hand, wrenching the dagger from her foe's grip and using it to bring the villain down. In his dying breath, he'll beg Lara to protect Paititi, and she'll agree to do so.

The catch is that the power of the box brings Lara into her own vision, allowing her to have the chance to reunite with both of her parents. She realizes the intention behind this magic though, and before she can do something problematic, she returns to the real world, allowing the Yaaxil leader to aid her in stopping the Cleansing from occurring, employing the dagger to sacrifice Kukulkan's spirit.

With the apocalypse halted, Lara decides to stay in Paititi to help Etzli rebuild the hidden city, restoring it to proper order, while Jonah will return home. In due time, Lara, too, will return to England, perhaps to start on another big adventure.
