Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There is evidence, when Lara locates the Underworld Gate, that explorers of which type attempted to excavate the area first?

Answer: Early 20th century

Found next to a Base Camp after Lara reunites with Jonah in the Peruvian Jungle, the Underworld Gate is reachable across a wide canyon, and before she even crosses this (with her climbing gear), she'll find evidence of an early 20th century encampment, complete with skeletons of the explorers, indicating that someone tried and failed to get what she's after.

Inside there will be an incredible temple, abandoned during its construction, built atop a cenote, and if she can get through the whole thing using the construction winches left behind, she'll reach an altar that rewards her with Eagle's Perch, a skill that increases her climbing skills, allowing her to traverse environmental hazards with more speed.
2. Although it's the first Tomb you can find, Judge's Gaze is not the first Tomb you can complete.

Answer: True

Found near Lara's first Base Camp in the Peruvian Jungle, Judge's Gaze is found beyond a cenote in a jungle cavern and is only accessible if you collect your Climbing Axe from the back half of the crashed plane. This means that while you can get up to the breakable wall that acts as an entry to the Tomb, you can't get in until you loop around the jungle to, virtually, the point where you can Fast Travel. You will be able to enter Underworld Gate first.

All this said, Judge's Gaze gives way to a large, single chamber in which Lara will find the constructed depiction of an ancient trial. Using weights, ropes, and a giant ladder, Lara needs to climb her way up the central column and cross a broken bridge to reach the prize altar. Completion rewards her with Caiman's Heart, allowing her health to regenerate more quickly.
3. Which of these foes will Lara encounter in the Howling Caves?

Answer: Wolves

A series of jagged caverns found near Kuwaq Yaku, the Howling Caves seem daunting from the jump, appearing to be a long-destroyed temple complex set in a group of hollow tunnels with porous walls, all with oil seeping through. It turns out that, at some point, the indigenous tribes built atop a petroleum deposit. When Lara visits, however, the tunnels (at least the lower ones) are patrolled by hungry wolves. Even if Lara plummets to a fatal fall in some locations, the wolves will still get her.

Completing this tomb requires opening and closing shutters to let the wind through and clear a path to the final altar. There, she can acquire Huracan's Mantle, which reduces damage from fire and explosions. Interestingly, as soon as she collects this skill, the wind in the tomb will calm down.
4. The Path of Battle contains which of these perhaps-unexpected fixtures?

Answer: A rotating machine

Northwest of Paititi, Lara can make her way into a seemingly-tranquil hunting ground, swim out into the waters there, and dive into a flooded tomb to find the Path of Battle, an unexpected chamber with complex machinations. In addition to needing to navigate traps and gates outfitted with sharp, obsidian shards, Lara has to maneuver around a large, wooden structure in the grand chamber that rotates and bears the tomb's final altar. Completing the tomb means destroying the machine via switches that cause it to lower and shatter its arms.

At the top, Lara can collect Sip's Quiver, a skill that allows her to loose up to three arrows without pulling any from her quiver. It might not be pertinent to the tomb itself, but it is handy!
5. The platforms found in the Temple of the Sun are controllable with which of these?

Answer: Light

In a tomb sitting behind the Hidden City of Paititi, the Temple of the Sun is, for the most part, one big chamber containing rushing waters below and unique platforms and ancient machines above. To get to the altar across the chamber, Lara needs to cross the narrow platforms, but this proves difficult as the only way to rotate them into place is by using targeted beams of light that can only be directed by a series of four mirrors, one in each corner of the room.

If she can get to the end of the puzzle alive, she'll unlock Hoatzin's Hunger, which will increase the amount of natural crafting resources gathered from each source beyond what she can level up with her skills per normal.
6. In the Ancient Aqueduct, can Lara use her weapons?

Answer: Yes

This Tomb is found in the canyon cliffs between Paititi's temples and their nearby prison, and it means that until Lara passes through a cavern created by a subterranean river, she'll have her guns stowed away. She will make a point of bringing them out before working her way through the underground, still-functioning Mayan aqueduct though.

Here, Lara's aim will be to get to the top of the aqueduct by passing through several gates and maneuvering a kickable raft to use as a platform. The problem is that she'll be periodically assaulted by bow-wielding Yaaxil guards. At the end, if she makes it, she'll learn Jaguar's Paw, increasing the chance of knocking down enemies with melee attacks.
7. Completing the Tomb built into the San Cordoba, Lara will receive a skill that improves her underwater breathing. Its name refers to which animal?

Answer: Caiman

Lara will pass through a beautiful cenote before heading into the Eye of the Serpent (on her hunt for the Silver Box of Ix Chel) but halfway along that cavernous route she can pass into a collapsed temple containing-- of all things-- a massive Spanish Galleon. In addition to finding her way aboard the deck of the large boat, she'll need to maneuver herself around the surrounding walls and she'll have to move the booms around to get to the controls she needs. The goal here is to get into the captain's chambers, and the only way to do that is by dropping a cannon from above.

Inside is, of all things, a stele. Opening this up will give Lara Caiman's Breath II, providing a further increase to her breathing capacity when swimming underwater. The first tier of this comes from spending on skills at a base camp per normal.
8. The Tree of Life Tomb features a number of moving platforms that can only be navigated using which natural byproduct of the area?

Answer: Gas plumes

Behind a gated area guarded by a jaguar and deep within a deserted cloister, Lara can make her way down into caverns of natural gas deposits to find an unlikely sight-- an underground tree covered with hanging platforms and outfitted with dangerous fire-lined tunnels. Clearly built up and protected by the Yaaxil (who will appear in due time), the area can only be navigated if Lara pulls platforms around with her Rope Arrows and then blasts the natural gas plumes with Fire Arrows to move objects or clear a path.

At the end of this one, Lara will collect Kinich Ahau's Boon, which allows her health to be instantly restored once when near death in battle (and this refreshes between encounters).
9. The reward for completing the Thirsty Gods Tomb, Sip's Strike, affects which of these?

Answer: Charged arrows

Found near the Mission of San Juan, but closer to the Porvenir Oil Fields, Lara will find Thirsty Gods if she swims into a narrow lake and through a flooded, eel-infested chamber containing the heads of large gods. All of this will bring her to a puzzling area protected by the Yaaxil (and a bunch of piranha schools) wherein she'll have to use a water wheel and a movable water source to open a hatch in the temple structure and climb on up.

At the top is one of the later upgrades of the game-- Sip's Strike. It'll allow her charged arrows to deal more damage against enemies covered in armor.
10. Which of these Tombs is NOT part of the DLC content for "Shadow of the Tomb Raider"?

Answer: The Prophet's Tomb

The Prophet's Tomb is actually a general Tomb found in the preceding game, "Rise of the Tomb Raider", in which Lara encounters Trinity in the mountains of Siberia.

"Shadow of the Tomb Raider", however, features seven different DLC Tombs that can be embarked upon, all via quest givers marked with eclipse icons on the map. A route through the Path of Echoes will lead to the Forge of Destiny while the Path of Fear will take her to the Howl of the Monkey Gods Tomb near the Mission of San Juan. Zipacna's Craving, found at the end of a longer quest chain involving Hakan, will bring Lara through the Slayer's Gauntlet.

All of these added Tombs will result in rewards and skills that Lara would never otherwise be able to unlock.
