Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The solution to the explosive device in "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" (PC) is found in which spot?

Answer: A manual

And oddly enough, though this game is played on your PC or console, the Bomb Diffusal Manual is found online and must be read on another screen or printed out and given to the diffusal techs. Ultimately, this is a multiplayer game, and while one player has their hands on the bomb itself, the others must communicate with them to solve a number of complex puzzles before a timer runs out and, yes, some of these are fiendish.

There's only one way to complete the bomb, and sometimes you'll have a handful of strikes, but the aim is always the same: work together to avoid exploding.
2. You're much more likely to get the bad ending of "Silent Hill 4: The Room" (PS2) if you pick up which innocuous item?

Answer: Shabby Doll

Handed to you by Walter Sullivan, the game's final boss and primary antagonist, the Shabby Doll seems to be a non-starter, but anyone who picks it up will be cursed for the remainder of the game and forced to push through by using candles to rid the apartment of the haunting it creates, and this could be to your detriment. Ultimately, leaving the Shabby Doll active increases your chance of getting the game's worst ending, but there's a high likelihood that you won't be able to remove the doll from your inventory even if you follow through with ridding the haunting.

The best way to avoid this is by not accepting the doll by picking it up.
3. If you collect 'The Bane', a quest reward weapon from "Borderlands 2", what will it NOT do?

Answer: Be quiet

Found in the grave of Gar, The Cursed, you'll be quick to notice that the weapon might be the reason for the curse since it's possibly the most obnoxious machine gun in the game. And that's saying a lot since many of the characters are cheekily annoying throughout Pandora.

The Bane is a powerful gun but that's where its benefits end. In addition to slowing down the person who wields it, The Bane has numerous voice lines, all of which fire off when the weapon is used. Firing, for example, sends out a cloying "YEAHAHAHYAEHYEHAYHEAH..."; reloading is marked with a "REEEEELOADIN'!"; it goes on. Even if you reduce the in-game volume to effectively mute, you'll still hear The Bane at its proper volume. They knew exactly what they were doing.
4. You'll permanently drop your stats in "World of Horror" (PC) if you do what with the Crestfallen Mask?

Answer: Take it off

Collected only if you complete the 'Chilling Chronicle of a Crimson Cape' quest in a certain way, the Crestfallen Mask seems like an appropriate mood-setting trinket to obtain, but it comes with a hidden detriment. Putting on the mask reduces your Doom level at the immediate moment, but from that point, you have to keep it on your face. Removing it at any point will remove your face (and apply the Faceless status), in turn dropping all of your stats by 2.

It won't affect anything else-- even if you don't have a face-- but yikes.
5. You may find your luck start to take a turn for the worse in "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" (NS) if you wear which of these?

Answer: The King Tut Mask

Appearing in the 2020 Nintendo Switch game "Animal Crossing: New Horizons", this stylish, Egyptian-inspired item might take on more of the original's traits than it seems from the outset since wearing it brings its wearer bad luck (though not fatal bad luck, as it were). Instead, you'll find yourself tripping while running a lot more often, though wearing literally anything else will remove this chance.

The mask costs five nuggets to make and otherwise appears in other "Animal Crossing" games as well.
6. Without a proper spell to fix its issues, the Boots of Blinding Speed may very well kill you with an unsolicited use in what open-world RPG?

Answer: Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Early on in "Morrowind" you'll come across Pemenie, who needs to be escorted north to Gnaar Mok, and she'll be the one to hand over the Boots of Blinding Speed (or you can just kill her to swipe them, as is also a valid decision to make). The catch is that these valuable artifacts, which provide a 200% boost to your run speed, also leave you blind, and wielding them without proper magic to buffer the quirks can leave you very dead very fast. Using Resist Magika to avoid taking the blindness effect and utilizing Feather Fall or Levitate to avoid flying into the sky and sustaining fall damage can make these boots invaluable for travel.
7. The One-Hit Obliterator is a powerful device that comes with a deceptive side. In which game series would you use it?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda

Appearing in "Breath of the Wild" (NS), the One-Hit Obliterator does what it says on the label, acting as a devastating weapon that can kill any foe in Link's trials with a single hit. The problem is that its use will also drop Link's maximum health to a single quarter-heart, and he'll be able to use any other weapon while it's equipped. In other words, it's one-hit for enemies AND it's one-hit for Link.

This weapon only appears in the Shrine of Resurrection in "Breath of the Wild" and does not return in "Tears of the Kingdom" (NS).
8. In "Final Fantasy VI" (SNES), the Cursed Shield will diminish your stats and give you status ailments, but eventually, with enough use, it might become which of these?

Answer: Paladin Shield

Found in the World of Ruin, the Cursed Shield does what it promises, providing significant debuffs to the player it's equipped on. In addition to dropping all of that character's stats, it provides weaknesses to every attack type save for normal physical hits AND it inflicts confuse, berserk, silence, sap, and doom upon the wearer.

You might think...okay...why? The catch is that after you complete two hundred fifty-six battles wearing the Cursed Shield, it transforms into the Paladin Shield, one of the strongest in the game, giving immense stat boons, providing protection against all elements, and casting Ultima.
9. The Snecko Eye, if added to your Relic inventory, will give you what status effect in "Slay the Spire" (PC)?

Answer: Confusion

Although removed in the sequel in favour of a reworked mechanic, the Snecko Eye appears as a Boss Relic in "Slay the Spire", obtainable from a set of three and only really worth your while if you're an agent of chaos or otherwise have mitigated a lot of risk. With the Snecko Eye, all of the cards in your hand will randomize their costs between 0 and 3, meaning that even the cheapest of cards will have a chance of becoming virtually unusable.

The name of the relic comes from the Snecko itself, which appears as a normal enemy in Act II of the tower and casts its confusion after the first round of combat.
10. Putting on a Dramatic Mask might kill you in "Lethal Company" (PC) if you're unlucky, but what will happen next?

Answer: Your body will be controlled by an evil monster

There are plenty of awful creatures hiding in the dark, claustrophobic bases, caves, mansions, and hidey-holes of "Lethal Company", a game that has you and other explorers searching for artifacts and scraps to sell back to the company proper provided you survive the trips. Making quota is tough though, since the monsters aren't the only threats; sometimes the items you collect are equally problematic.

The Dramatic Masks, while sellable, are also interactive. Once you put one off, there's a high likelihood it isn't coming off, and worse still, you always have a chance of being killed by the mask before it takes over your body and creepily follows your team around, killing them off as well. Best to just not tempt fate.
