Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Lost Sinner is one of four Great Ones in this game. That means her defeat grants access to a key structure. What lies behind The Lost Sinner's boss room?

Answer: Primal Bonfire

There are four Great Ones. Two of them, The Rotten and Old Iron King, do indeed serve as obstacles to enter two separate DLCs. All of them, including The Lost Sinner, harbor a Primal Bonfire. Reaching and lighting all four Primal Bonfires is one possible condition to open the Shrine of Winter, allowing the player to progress the game.
2. Before the fight with The Lost Sinner begins, a cutscene plays showing her eventually rise and use her sword to cut down lit torches in her boss room, making it dark. The darkness actually provides a buff to The Lost Sinner. What enhancement does she receive in the dark?

Answer: Movement speed

When in darkness, The Lost Sinner moves noticeably faster. Another downside for the player is that, in darkness, she cannot be locked onto unless she is basically right in front of the player. Spellcasters in particular generally need to lock on to foes to actually hit them, so they will be very hindered by this.
3. Clearly, the player should endeavor to keep the boss room lit and ensure The Lost Sinner is plainly visible at all times. This can be done, but it will require the player arrive with a couple of items already to hand. What is one thing the player will need to keep the lights on?

Answer: A key

The Bastille Key is required for this as, without it, the player has no way to turn the lights back on after The Lost Sinner puts them out. With the Bastille Key, the player also requires a torch. There are two doors to the side of The Lost Sinner's boss room, unlocked by the Bastille Key. Once inside each room, the player can use a torch to light an oil trail on fire. This trail extends from these rooms into the boss room, ensuring The Lost Sinner will be unable to completely turn the lights off.

Alternatively, though extraordinarily niche, a Sorcery build with the Cast Light spell can replicate this effect. It does not light the room up anywhere near as much as using a Torch, so it will produce inconsistent results.
4. From Software provides up to two NPCs who can be summoned to help the player fight The Lost Sinner. Who is one of them?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

Lucatiel's questline can indeed be progressed through this fight, by summoning Lucatiel and ensuring she survives the fight in the end. As always, Lucatiel wields the Mirrah Greatsword along with her signature armor set and shield. In order for Lucatiel's summon sign to appear, the player must exhaust her dialogue at the Lost Bastille.

In addition to Lucatiel, Sellsword Luet is a possible NPC summon.
5. The Lost Sinner incidentally represented a first in From Software history. Which "first" of the following can she claim?

Answer: First boss capable of parrying the player

At various, unpredictable instances, The Lost Sinner will slowly raise her greatsword to about neck-high level and will simply look at the player, slowly trotting in place. If, during this animation, the player tries to hit her with a melee weapon, she will parry them every single time and immediately riposte them. The riposte does boatloads of damage, not a literal guaranteed kill, but unless the player has a pretty ridiculous amount of Vigor and sturdy armor, they will almost assuredly be killed if The Lost Sinner manages to parry them.

Prior to The Lost Sinner, no game in From Software history (dating back to the 1980s!) had ever featured a boss capable of parrying the player. Because it can bring an abrupt, potentially very frustrating end to the fight, it is possible From Software had wanted to play it safe with this mechanic until The Lost Sinner.
6. On New Game Plus or further, fighting The Lost Sinner sees her gain new allies. Two red phantoms appear, and they will proceed to do nothing but spam what?

Answer: Pyromancies

These Pyromancers have low health and stagger to basically anything, which would make them easy to kill. However, if the player did not summon anyone to help them, dealing with these Pyromancers becomes a lot harder due to nobody being around to distract The Lost Sinner for the player. They cast random Pyromancies, but can use deadly ones such as Flame Swathe, Fire Whip and Great Fireball.

Sellsword Luet is the perfect summon for helping to deal with the Pyromancers. He equips the Redeye Ring, so he will largely attract the attention of The Lost Sinner. This will help facilitate the removal of the Pyromancers, as the player can quickly take them out while The Lost Sinner is distracted by Sellsword Luet.

Lucatiel can pull the same strategy off as Luet, but her lack of a Redeye Ring makes her less consistent as she cannot distract The Lost Sinner anywhere near as reliably.
7. Defeating The Lost Sinner grants the player the Soul of the Lost Sinner. This can be exchanged for Lost Sinner's Sword, a player version of the weapon she wields. This weapon appears fairly plain and ordinary at first glance, but it has two quirky features. One of them is its scaling, as the weapon will be negatively effected should the player accumulate Sin. What is one way to generate Sin?

Answer: Kill innocent players/NPCs

"Innocent" players are other players who do not instigate combat. For example, if a player invades and then kills another player, the invading player gets a Sin. But, if the player is invaded and kills their invader, that does not count as receiving a Sin. Killing other players in covenant duels does not count as a Sin either. Using a Cracked Blue Eye Orb or becoming a Blue Sentinel and defending another player from an invader will not accumulate Sin either. The basic idea is, the player will accumulate Sin if they actively seek out and kill other players outside of covenant duels or as a Blue Sentinel.

"Innocent" NPCs are defined by the game as NPCs who are not hostile towards the player by default. While this sounds and usually is straightforward enough, there are some instances when a grey area for this can be established.

For example, if engaging with Mild-Mannered Pate and/or Creighton of Mirrah's questlines, they each end with the two locked in eventually lethal combat with one another. In this scenario, the player is prompted to support one of them, and kill the other. That said, this part of the questline can also be passed by the player simply standing there and watching the fight between the two go on, as one of them will eventually kill the other. If the player does the killing here, it does indeed count as a Sin. Like when dealing with other players, if the player is invaded by an NPC, killing them will not accumulate Sin.

The Lost Sinner's Sword deals less and less damage the more Sin the player accumulates. If planning to use this weapon, the player must be seriously mindful of who, and sometimes when, they kill someone.
8. Upon defeating The Lost Sinner, Maughlin the Armorer will be found selling her attire, sized down for the player, effectively letting them 'cosplay' as The Lost Sinner if they so chose. Cosplaying in this context can grant tangible benefits to the player. What is one buff received from a piece of The Lost Sinner's Penal set?

Answer: Increased equip load capacity

The Penal Mask worn by The Lost Sinner will slightly increase the player's equip load capacity when worn. As well, the Penal Handcuffs will slightly increase the damage output of Pyromancies when cast. Sadly, the Penal Strait Jacket and Leggings do not grant any tangible bonuses. That said, the player does not have to wear the entire set to receive the Mask and Handcuffs' buffs, so they can choose to wear different, more beneficial chestpieces and leggings if they so choose.

On the whole, The Lost Sinner's Penal set actually does have really strong weight:absorption efficiency, with the Penal Mask pulling a ton of weight (no pun intended) in this regard. The set is overall on the lighter side, but is pretty fantastic for players who do not want to level up their Vitality, and instead are content with lighter armor.

The Handcuffs, in particular, are an absolute must have for Pyromancy builds.
9. Uniquely, as one of the four Great Ones, The Lost Sinner drops a second Boss Soul if slain on New Game Plus or higher. One of the rewards which can be received from the Old Witch Soul is the Chaos Blade. The Chaos Blade and Lost Sinner's Sword have one nasty thing in common. What is this?

Answer: Recoil damage to the user

If the player strikes something which can take damage or be destroyed with The Lost Sinner's Sword or Chaos Blade, they will suffer a minor amount of recoil damage. This can be enemies or destructible pieces of environment, like wooden doors.

The drawback exists because these two weapons, at their peak, can dish out ridiculous amounts of damage. The Chaos Blade has an astounding S scaling with Dexterity at +5 to go with excellent base damage and surprisingly manageable durability given that it's a katana. The Lost Sinner's Sword has relatively poor scaling, but more than makes up for this with excellent base damage and surprisingly low weight and stat requirements for an Ultra Greatsword.

Both are very excellent weapons, but they do demand an attentive player who can manage their Sin for the LSS as well as the self-damaging effects both weapons saddle the player with.
10. One alternative reward from the Old Witch's Soul is the Flame Weapon Pyromancy. A buff spell, this one is lauded for how minimal its stat prerequisites are, making it quite accessible to just about any build imaginable. What are the stat prerequisites for Flame Weapon?

Answer: 0 Intelligence/0 Faith

The one and only requirement to cast Flame Weapon is that the player has a spell slot available for it. Even this doesn't have to be achieved through level up, as the player could simply equip the Southern Ritual Band and then merrily use Flame Weapon to their heart's content, regardless of their other stats.

Flame Weapon is admittedly the weakest buff spell in the game, in terms of the added damage it provides. However, it is the only weapon buffing spell in the entire game that does not have any stat prerequisites.

In that sense, players should view Flame Weapon as something of a permanent Charcoal Pine Resin, only slightly stronger and tied to a spell slot.
