Question 3 of 10
3. One NPC is available to summon to try and improve the player's numbers situation for this boss fight. Who can the player summon? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Uniquely, when slaying the Belfry Gargoyles on New Game Plus or higher, they will drop a new piece of loot; a ring. What ring can be acquired from the Belfry Gargoyles? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. At any particular setting, the Belfry Gargoyles will drop the Belfry Gargoyle Soul on defeat. This can be converted into the Gargoyle's Bident, which is the melee weapon wielded by the Gargoyles during the fight. This bident has a really weird stat layout, scaling exclusively in one stat that isn't Dexterity despite being a spear. What stat does the Gargoyle's Bident scale exclusively from? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Directly after the boss room, once the fight is over, the player can find an iron treasure chest. Inside this chest is another ring. What ring can players loot after defeating the Belfry Gargoyles? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. When summoning an allied Shade, they can only remain in the host's world for so long. When killing enemies, this deducts from that timer. At base, Shades can remain in the host's world for five minutes. Killing the mini-boss Belfry Gargoyle will remove how much time? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. In "Dark Souls 1", the Bell Gargoyles were tasked with stopping the player in that game from ringing the bell they were guarding. The purpose for the Belfry Gargoyles is fairly ironic. Why are the Belfry Gargoyles stationed in Belfry Luna? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Uniquely, if the player misses or otherwise skips out on this boss fight, they will briefly appear at a different bonfire to essentially 'remind' the player of their existence. From what bonfire will the player be able to see the Belfry Gargoyles? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Immediately upon beginning the boss fight, the player will notice that this boss shares the exact same soundtrack as a boss from "Dark Souls 1". In fact, this boss was very obviously inspired by its namesake from that game. What boss from the aforementioned game shares the same OST with Belfry Gargoyles?

Answer: Bell Gargoyles

This is the only boss fight in all of "Dark Souls 2" that just copies and pastes a soundtrack from "Dark Souls 1". Even Old Dragonslayer, who is basically Dragonslayer Ornstein with a different skin, has his own completely unique, exclusive even, boss fight theme.
2. Belfry Gargoyles is ultimately best viewed as a continuation of a boss formula From Software had been trying to perfect for two full games now. If the player allows it, how many Gargoyles maximum can be on the field, fighting the player at once?

Answer: Seven

It should be noted, on base game, the answer is six. It grows to seven if fighting the Belfry Gargoyles on New Game Plus.

The Gargoyles do have to follow certain "rules" before they can continue to spawn, so unless the player intentionally allows it, they are unlikely to ever find themselves in a seven-on-one situation.

At the very start of the fight, two Gargoyles will swoop in to start. All Gargoyles share a health bar, and once the player gets this communal health bar to 90%, 70% and then 50%, a new Gargoyle will spawn. On NG+, a second additional Gargoyle enters at 70%, and a new Gargoyle appears at 30% as well.

Alternatively, one Gargoyle will spawn every 30 seconds if the player plays too passively. Each individual Gargoyle has relatively low health and can be killed fairly quickly, so if the player is playing the game normally, they will probably find themselves in, at worst, about a 2-3 on 1 situation. But, it is theoretically possible for this to be seven.
3. One NPC is available to summon to try and improve the player's numbers situation for this boss fight. Who can the player summon?

Answer: Masterless Glencour

Glencour is a solid option who can capably hold the attention of one or two Gargoyles at once for an extended period of time.

Glencour is good for the boss fight, but he's even better for actually reaching the boss fight. Belfry Luna is the center of covenant based PvP, so the player is likely to be invaded by a Bell Keeper player at some point. If this happens, Glencour's value skyrockets, as he is proficient at parrying real players and, since he has a huge HP stat and the invader won't be able to heal, he will frequently outlast invaders.
4. Uniquely, when slaying the Belfry Gargoyles on New Game Plus or higher, they will drop a new piece of loot; a ring. What ring can be acquired from the Belfry Gargoyles?

Answer: Covetous Gold Serpent

The one dropped by the NG+ Belfry Gargoyles is the +2 variant, the strongest of its kind. The Covetous Gold Serpent ring increases the chances of enemies dropping items on defeat, including rare items. As such, defeating the Belfry Gargoyles on NG+ or after using a Bonfire Ascetic is highly recommended if the player plans to later farm enemies for a particular drop.

Answer: Strength

With a strong A scaling in Strength and absolutely nothing else, the niche for this weapon is actually a pretty strong one. It was clearly intended for heavy tank builds which aim to poke from behind a shield using a spear. While this seems hyper-specific, there are a lot of great shields and great greatshields in this game which are, well, great for this purpose. The Havel's Greatshield in particular requires 45 Strength to use, so if the player went to the effort to be able to use this shield, they'd be in great shape to also wield the Gargoyle's Bident.

Despite having absolutely zero scaling outside of Strength, this weapon does annoyingly require 15 in Dexterity to wield. Requiring 15 points with zero scaling or value gained from it would have to be its defining drawback, stopping this weapon from seeing as much use as it could.
6. Directly after the boss room, once the fight is over, the player can find an iron treasure chest. Inside this chest is another ring. What ring can players loot after defeating the Belfry Gargoyles?

Answer: Southern Ritual Band

The Southern Ritual Band found here will be the base version, the lowest quality of its kind. When equipped, it grants the player one spell slot. This, of course, can be useful in a litany of different ways. Spellcasting players will naturally appreciate the opportunity to add another spell to their arsenal, while melee-focused builds can use this ring to plausibly equip the Magic or Flame Weapon spell when their Attunement is too low.
7. One, single Belfry Gargoyle can be fought later as a mini-boss. Where does this take place?

Answer: Drangleic Castle

This Gargoyle is very, very out of the way, to the point where brand new players are almost certainly going to miss it. To access it, the player must reach Central Drangleic Castle, and they must go all the way around to unlock the shortcut granting access to the bonfire at CDC.

In doing so, right before they enter a room with two Desert Sorceresses in it, they should deviate and climb a ladder to the rooftop of this room. On the roof, they'll find an Alonne Captain standing next to a statue. If the player gets close, the statue will manifest into a Belfry Gargoyle.
8. When summoning an allied Shade, they can only remain in the host's world for so long. When killing enemies, this deducts from that timer. At base, Shades can remain in the host's world for five minutes. Killing the mini-boss Belfry Gargoyle will remove how much time?

Answer: Four minutes

Bizarrely, this is tied with the Executioner's Chariot mini-boss for the highest deduction in the entire game, and the EC mini-boss is found about thirty seconds prior to the Belfry Gargoyle mini-boss.

As such, if planning to aid a friend going through Central Castle Drangleic, the cooperator will basically be required to use a regular White Soapstone Summon Sign instead of the small version. Otherwise, they will always be kicked out of the host's world before reaching the end.
9. In "Dark Souls 1", the Bell Gargoyles were tasked with stopping the player in that game from ringing the bell they were guarding. The purpose for the Belfry Gargoyles is fairly ironic. Why are the Belfry Gargoyles stationed in Belfry Luna?

Answer: To stop attackers from preventing the bell ringing

Belfry Luna is essentially 'owned' by the Bell Keepers covenant. The Prince of Alken commissioned their construction as a means of protecting the bell. However, in order to even access this fight in the first place, the player must ring the bell. As well, the orientation of Belfry Luna suggests that the Gargoyles were actually trying to prevent entry via the sea.

While the player obviously can't swim nor captain any sort of ship in this game, the fact that they basically go through the area in reverse and have to pass through a gate opened only by ringing the bell proves that the Belfry Gargoyles, unlike their predecessors, actually want the bell getting rung.
10. Uniquely, if the player misses or otherwise skips out on this boss fight, they will briefly appear at a different bonfire to essentially 'remind' the player of their existence. From what bonfire will the player be able to see the Belfry Gargoyles?

Answer: The Saltfort

The Gargoyles are far off in the distance, way too far for any type of weapon to be able to hit them. They will soar off in the distance and briefly loudly roar at the player before dispersing.

Since the Belfry Gargoyles are only accessed through the use of a Pharros Lockstone, and are accessed on a side path at that, this was probably From Software's way of showing their existence to a brand new player that likely overlooked them entirely.
