Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does this fight take place?

Answer: Drangleic Castle

Towards the very end of Central Castle Drangleic, going down the King's Passage, is where Looking Glass Knight can be found.
2. Looking Glass Knight has had two very specific reasons for existing in this space. What is one thing he has been tasked with doing?

Answer: Testing those who wish to serve King Vendrick

Originally, Looking Glass Knight's purpose was to simply test the strength of those who wanted to join the Dragonriders, Vendrick's royal guard. After Vendrick hollowed and fled to the Undead Crypt, Looking Glass Knight remained in place but with a new purpose: protect the king from those who are in pursuit of him for nefarious gain.
3. Interestingly, along the way to the boss room, the player will pass by a litany of mundane looking candles. These candles might be lit, or they might not be. If playing the game online, what causes a candle to be lit?

Answer: Another player dies to the boss

If another player who is also online loses to the Looking Glass Knight, a candle in the King's Passage will be lit and all players can see this. They won't see who died, how or even when.

This is similar to the Bells of Awakening in "Dark Souls 1". In that game, whenever an online player rings a bell, all other online players in the area can hear the bell being rung even though it isn't taking place in their own world.

There are a total of seventy-two candles on the King's Passage hallway. One becomes lit each time someone dies to the Looking Glass Knight. If all seventy-two are lit and someone new dies to the boss, all candles will go dark and the process starts from the first candle all over again.
4. Technically, Looking Glass Knight has one major resistance. What element does he resist the most?

Answer: Lightning

Curiously, despite Looking Glass Knight wearing armor which is a very shiny metal, this metal bears some strange magical properties, as it possesses a staggering 70% resistance to Lightning.
5. While Looking Glass Knight's armor does technically have a strong resistance, this resistance is entirely ruined by an extraneous factor, but this factor also makes things tougher on the player as well. What is happening in Looking Glass Knight's boss room?

Answer: It is pouring rain

The pouring rain is not just for show, as this increases Lightning damage taken by 50% while halving the damage output of Fire. Because of this, though Looking Glass Knight's armor is very sturdy to Lightning, the rain will cancel a lot of this out, reducing his Lightning resistance to a more manageable 20%.

Of course, the player will take extra Lightning damage under rain as well. Looking Glass Knight wields the Thorned Greatsword, a melee weapon which deals part Lightning damage. Because of the rain, the player is technically weak to Lightning themselves. Because of this, items such as the Lightning Quartz Ring would be a very good idea to come equipped with.
6. Up to three NPCs could be summoned for this fight. Who is one of them?

Answer: Benhart of Jugo

By exhausting all of Benhart's dialogue next to the Central Drangleic Castle bonfire, he will later be available to help with this boss fight. Of course, it does count towards his questline, so if the player wants to do his questline, they will need to ensure Benhart survives the fight.

Ashen Knight Boyd is a second straightforward choice for a summon, available without any prerequisites and with his sign visible very close to Benhart's.

Sellsword Luet is technically an option as well, but the player has to do some work to earn his services. He is a shade and is only summoned about halfway through Central Drangleic Castle, so the player will need to clear the way to Looking Glass Knight, then backtrack and summon Luet.
7. At random times, the Looking Glass Knight will raise his shield, then basically lower it to the ground and hold it out. This is where the true gimmick to this fight kicks in. What is he trying to do, while he stands completely still with his shield slamming against the ground?

Answer: Summon a player to help him

This is known as the "PvP" boss of the game, as this is the only boss in the entire game in which PvP can take place in the middle of the fight.

The way this works is a wee bit complicated, so bear with me here.

Once the player challenges the Looking Glass Knight, the game itself immediately begins to look for a player he can summon, well before he even goes to do the summoning. In order to be an eligible summon, a prospective player must place their summon sign down somewhere in King's Passage, and their Soul Memory must be a similar figure to the challenging player.

If all of this lines up, the Looking Glass Knight will begin to channel his summoning. While doing this, if he is about to summon a real player, the challenging player will read "*invading player name* Mirror Squire has summoned" in a flashing message on their screen, the exact same as when getting invaded.
8. For defeating the Looking Glass Knight, the player will receive the Looking Glass Knight's Soul. This can be converted into a player appropriate version of either his sword, the Thorned Greatsword, or his shield, the King's Mirror. The King's Mirror is an extremely heavy greatshield that tries to be gimmicky. Other than the usual things shields do, what can the King's Mirror do?

Answer: Deflect spells

In theory and on paper, this is a parrying greatshield. That concept sounds ridiculously overpowered- a shield which can block hits effectively and even nimbly parry foes sounds almost insurmountable.

The catch is that, unfortunately, the deflect is really, really bad. Like, seriously, pitifully pathetic. Shields like the Magic Shield also deflect spells, only the Magic Shield actually deflects them back to the sender. The King's Mirror simply deflects the spell into the ground, which begs the question: why not simply dodge the spell instead? They both accomplish the same thing in the end, and dodging can be done by anyone, with any equipment to hand.

The nail in the coffin for the King's Mirror would have to be its putridly awful stats. This is a greatshield which is nearly as heavy as the Havel's Greatshield, and that shield is an absolute tanking unit. The King's Mirror doesn't even have perfect physical absorption, and while its Magic absorption is strong, this is nowhere close to good enough to make this shield anything better than a hunk of useless scrap metal.

It's a shame too, because if nothing else, the King's Mirror absolutely nails it on cosmetic value. Those seeking to cosplay as the Looking Glass Knight should still have quite a bit of fun. Other than on a cosplay build, the only place the King's Mirror belongs is in the garbage. The fact this thing has the audacity to demand Petrified Dragon Bones for upgrade is laughable.
9. After slaying Looking Glass Knight, his entire armor set, sized down to be appropriate for the player, is available for purchase. Who sells it?

Answer: Maughlin the Armorer

As with all of his boss cosmetic sets, this set will not appear in Maughlin's inventory if the player murders him ahead of time, even if they later use a tombstone to resurrect him. As such, if wanting to cosplay as Looking Glass Knight, the player must wait until actually killing Looking Glass Knight, and they will then be allowed to slaughter Maughlin once LGK's armor set appears in his shop.
10. If coming back to fight Looking Glass Knight on New Game Plus or higher, he now drops an extra ring on defeat. Which ring is it?

Answer: Ring of Steel Protection

The Ring of Steel Protection grants the player added resistance against physical attacks. The version of the ring received from this fight is the +2 variant, the strongest of its kind. The ring isn't particularly necessary, but it is quite strong and universally applicable. Players attempting to make tanky builds are likely to save a Bonfire Ascetic for this fight for that reason.
