Question 7 of 10
7. One potential reward from the Soul of the King is the Ruler's Sword, arguably the quirkiest weapon in this entire game and one of the quirkier From Software offerings at that. This sword exclusively scales off of a resource the player will need to accumulate lots of. What does the Ruler's Sword scale off of? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. The King's Ultra Greatsword is a possible reward from the Soul of the King. This appears to be a fairly ordinary Ultra Greatsword at first glance, but it is actually exclusive amongst its brethren for one thing. What does the King's Ultra Greatsword stand out for? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. If the player speaks with Vendrick at one point, he may be able to offer them Vendrick's Blessing. What does Vendrick's Blessing do? Hint

Question 10 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As a boss fight, where is Vendrick encountered?

Answer: Undead Crypt

At the tail end of Undead Crypt right after the boss room for Velstadt, the Royal Aegis is where Vendrick is found. He is initially docile, simply meandering about his room seemingly completely unaware of the player's presence as he drags his massive sword on the floor. After dealing 5% of his health bar to him in damage, he will finally begin to fight back and start the boss battle.
2. The Vendrick boss fight features a very thoroughly hollowed Vendrick who is entirely mindless, aimlessly swinging his sword at the player. The interactive NPC version of Vendrick is far, far more intricate and cunning. In order to speak with Vendrick from the past, the player needs an item. What item is it?

Answer: Ashen Mist Heart

Using the Ashen Mist Heart, the player can find Vendrick's old, discarded clothes in his boss room and interact with them. Doing this will send the player to the Memory of the King, a timepoint somewhere in the past, when both Vendrick and Velstadt were still human and had their wits to them. In this state, Vendrick can be talked to, and he has quite a lot to say and do with the player here.

Funnily enough, if the player attempts to approach the un-hollowed Velstadt, they will be immediately removed from the Memory and sent back to present-day Undead Crypt.
3. Is there an NPC available to help the player fight Vendrick?

Answer: No

Unfortunately, it is impossible to summon help for Vendrick simply because his boss room is located behind another boss room, with no neutral territory in between that would allow for a summon. The player can't summon other players or any NPCs, they are required to deal with Vendrick alone.
4. Mechanically, as a boss fight, Vendrick's resistance profile is wacky. Vendrick's resistance to literally everything is largely influenced by the quantity of one particular item the player (hopefully!) has in their inventory. What item will greatly influence how much damage Vendrick takes from attacks?

Answer: Soul of a Giant

At base, Vendrick starts by being able to take any damage the player deals to him and dividing it by a whopping 32. So if the player would normally deal 100 damage, Vendrick is able to turn that into closer to a meagre 3 or 4. This division is halved for each Soul of a Giant the player has in their inventory, from 32 to 16 to 8, 4, 2 and then down to zero if the player has five Souls of a Giant.

As such, before beginning the fight with Vendrick, the player should seriously ensure they have at least a few Souls of a Giant in their inventory.
5. Vendrick incidentally does carry one weakness which completely bypasses his unique defenses. What is Vendrick weak to?

Answer: Bleed

If the player does not have all five Souls of a Giant, Vendrick can essentially nerf their damage output by dividing it. However, Blood Loss always inflicts exactly 200 damage, and Vendrick cannot take less than this if the player is able to Bleed him. As such, players without very many Souls of a Giant should strongly consider Blood Loss weapons, such as the Morningstar or the Claws.
6. Upon being slain, Vendrick will not drop his Boss Soul. The player must venture elsewhere for it, as a previously locked door will now be unlocked after Vendrick's defeat. Where is the Soul of the King located?

Answer: Shrine of Amana

The player must go to the Crumbled Ruins bonfire and proceed forward briefly. Once they spot a long, narrow, stony bridge with a Dragonrider at the end of it, they'll know they're in the right place. After dealing with the Dragonrider, the player can open a door he was guarding to receive the Soul of the King.

Answer: Souls held

The damage output on this weapon takes a steep penalty until the player reaches 300,000 souls. From here, the sword's power will steadily rise until it caps out at exactly one million souls held. At its peak power, the Ruler's Sword is basically a slightly all around better version of the cult classic Claymore sword.

If intending to wield this weapon to its full potential, the Ring of Life Protection or the Ring of Soul Protection would be good ideas to wear. These rings prevent the player from losing their souls on death, which would keep the Ruler's Sword's power from experiencing a catastrophic drop if the player were to take a death at any point.
8. The King's Ultra Greatsword is a possible reward from the Soul of the King. This appears to be a fairly ordinary Ultra Greatsword at first glance, but it is actually exclusive amongst its brethren for one thing. What does the King's Ultra Greatsword stand out for?

Answer: Dealing Strike damage

The King's Ultra Greatsword is the only UGS in the entire game to not only not deal Standard damage, but to do Strike in its stead. This may seem minor, but it's actually a massive advantage, as many enemies donning heavy armor are critically weak to Strike, such as the Ruin Sentinels, Velstadt the Royal Aegis and the Throne Watcher/Defender Duo.

Standard is not exactly bad, but it offers no particular advantage over any specific enemy. As such, going from Standard to Strike is an entirely beneficial swap.
9. If the player speaks with Vendrick at one point, he may be able to offer them Vendrick's Blessing. What does Vendrick's Blessing do?

Answer: Make the player immune to Hollowing if they wear a crown

Ordinarily, if the player takes a death or is inflicted with Curse, they will be Hollowed. Being Hollowed affects the user's max HP based on how bad the Hollowing is, and prevents them from summoning friendly NPCs or other players into their world.

With Vendrick's Blessing, the player is effectively immune to Curse and will never ever Hollow so long as they are wearing one of the game's DLC Crowns or Vendrick's crown, the King's Crown.

Sadly, Vendrick's Blessing is only available once the player has completely finished all three DLC packs. It is then lost when transitioning to New Game Plus. It is still very, very handy for organizing structured PvP with friends, as Vendrick's Blessing will prevent PvPers from Hollowing when they kill each other, causing less of a strain on one's Human Effigy supply.
10. Ultimately, the player will get to the end of the game, and they must decide if they want to Relink the First Flame, or cast it away and let the world be taken by the Abyss. Vendrick has a very particular opinion on what the player should do. What does Vendrick think?

Answer: The player should make their own decision

Vendrick specifically believes that, if the player is strong enough to actually reach the First Flame, that their strength in doing so should be the factor enabling them to get the final say on what happens.

When Vendrick commanded his army, the game's lore suggests that he did so emphasizing strength within his royal guard in the same way. Vendrick did not like affairs being settled through anything other than a "might is right" approach, evidenced by his invasion of the giants preceding the Drangleic War.

As such, it makes sense that Vendrick would guide the player in this way.
