Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does this boss fight take place?

Answer: Shrine of Amana

This is the boss fought at the end of one of the lengthiest, most perilous areas in the entire game. This is definitely a situation where just getting to the boss was a much harder feat than actually defeating it.
2. On paper, the Demon of Song is technically not weak to anything. However, this fight takes place atop a small body of water for the entirety of the fight. Therefore, what is Demon of Song weak to in practice?

Answer: Lightning

On paper, Demon of Song has a pretty mundane 15% resistance to Lightning. Being in water, however, causes this to instead become a 35% weakness, which is pretty large.
3. While the water in Demon of Song's boss room does give it a de-facto weakness, it also gives it a massive resistance. Which element of the following is least effective in this fight?

Answer: Fire

On paper, Demon of Song has a 30% Fire resistance, which is sturdy but not impenetrable. Due to being in water constantly however, this skyrockets up to an 80% resistance, which is almost as resistant as the Old Iron King who literally lives in a sea of lava and fights the player while wading around said lava.

As such, Pyromancy builds would do well to prepare a non-Fire based weapon for this fight.
4. At times, the demon will retreat behind into its hardened exterior of a shell and completely cover its entire body. Is it possible to directly damage the demon when it does this?

Answer: No

Attacking the demon's shell will stagger the player for longer than usual when hitting a surface, which can expose them to danger. Shooting the shell with anything will also accomplish nothing. Even though the shell up to the demon's face appears to have a slit just big enough for an arrow to fit through, it effectively has an invisible barrier preventing this from working.

The demon can still take damage from Poison, which actually does lead to a pretty hilarious unique death animation if it dies to Poison while inside its shell. It cannot be directly damaged, but it can take damage from status effects like Poison.
5. As per the creature's name, the Demon of Song will be inside its boss room, singing, until the player confronts it. Why is it singing?

Answer: It is trying to lure people in

The Demon of Song is essentially a creature version of the Milfanito, a group of women who sing in basically the exact same inflection Demon of Song does. There is one key difference, in that most Malfinito do this to soothe and eventually purify the hollowed undead, while Demon of Song does it to lure these people in so it can devour their flesh.
6. Demon of Song does not seem to enjoy when the player gets in its face, or perhaps it enjoys this too much. How many different attacking maneuvers is it capable of performing when the player is in melee range?

Answer: Two

Demon of Song's boss AI is strangely easy to manipulate. That, or, From Software may have encountered a time crunch and wasn't able to optimize it as they would have hoped. By standing directly in front of the giant creature, it will only ever use the same two attacks for the whole entire fight, start to finish. It will either slam its two arms onto the player's position and swipe at them with its arms, or it will reach them out like trying to go for a hug and attempt to grab the player. It is worth noting that these attacks do deceptively motherlodes of damage if they hit, but they are highly telegraphed and are basically being spammed all fight long if the player wills it.

If the player does make distance, Demon of Song might either try to blast mouthfuls of water at them, or it might try to jump up high and body slam them on the way down.
7. There are technically two summons available for this fight. Who is the closest NPC summon available to the Demon of Song boss room?

Answer: Felicia the Brave

Before summoning Felicia, the player has a choice they should make: would I prefer help making it to the boss, or would I prefer help with killing the boss? If they summon Felicia immediately and use her to get to the boss, she will almost assuredly get herself killed. There are a wide span of Amana Priestesses who spam Homing Soul Arrow, along with Archdrakes wielding maces protecting them. Felicia is a non stop aggro machine, and would kill all of these enemies with her bare hands if she could. Sadly, she can't kill them with her Grand Lance and Tower Shield, but if the player summons her before the player themselves has killed these enemies, they will have no choice but to watch her try to solo them all.

Lone Hunter Schmidt can help the player, but Shrine of Amana is a huge area, and he is only summonable early on. Similarly to Felicia, if the player wants Schmidt to help with Demon of Song, they'll need to leave his summon sign alone, then later backtrack once the player has killed all of the enemies along the way.
8. When defeated, Demon of Song drops the Demon of Song Soul. This can be traded in for the Spotted Whip. This is a whip with special properties. Other than simply deal damage, what can this whip do?

Answer: Poison enemies

The Spotted Whip, at its max level of +5, inflicts a whopping 287 Poison build up with each individual hit. This is enough build up to afflict Poison in just one hit against some enemies, and it inflicts Poison so easily that "resisting" Poison basically doesn't matter; if the target isn't outright immune, the Spotted Whip will assuredly poison them, and usually pretty quickly.

Ironically, if the player wanted to see Demon of Song's special death animation when it dies to Poison inside its own shell, using this very weapon would be the easiest way to achieve that.
9. Demon of Song is one of few bosses in the game to also drop a key on defeat. The Key of the Embedded is received by the player. Curiously, in order to make any use of this key, the player will have to backtrack. Where does this key see use?

Answer: Drangleic Castle

Just after the Central Drangleic Castle bonfire, the player can take an elevator directly in front of the King's Passage. This elevator brings them high, to a room with three treasure chests and a locked cell. The cell cannot be opened when first arrived at, and the Key of the Embedded is needed to open it.

Inside the cell is a Milfanito who will reward the player with the Ring of the Dead for freeing her. If the player does this, they can speak to two Milfanitos in Shrine of Amana, one at a shrine towards the beginning of the area, another at the dead opposite shrine right after Demon of Song's boss room. The former will give the player a Divine Blessing, the latter a Fire Seed, if they freed their Milfanito friend with the Key of the Embedded.
10. Exclusively, desperate players gain access to a potentially extremely useful service once they defeat Demon of Song. A Milfanito will reverse any Hollowing the player has suffered, and they will do so for free, as many times as the player wants with no limit. There is one condition for the Milfanito to do this. What is the condition?

Answer: The player is out of Human Effigies

If the player takes a death, they lose 10% of their max HP. This can happen up to a maximum of losing half their health bar. To reverse this Hollowing, the player only needs to consume a Human Effigy. This would also be required for the player to be able to summon NPCs and other players into their world. However, if a player truly dies again and again and again, blowing through Human Effigies like they're going out of style, they could encounter a situation where they simply run out.

If the player does not have any Human Effigies on their person and none in their Item Box, the Milfanito will un-Hollow them, effectively applying the effects of a Human Effigy, for free. This ensures the player is never truly locked from multiplayer play, and also gives them a way to not lose their maximum health.
