Millionaire-Style Bible Trivia Questions

1. For $100, what was the first miracle of Jesus listed in the Gospel of John? (Jn 2)

From Quiz
Who Wants To Be a Biblical Millionaire

Answer: Turning water into wine

It is written in the second chapter of the Gospel of John that Jesus and his disciples are at a wedding feast in the town of Cana. It comes to Mary's attention that the host had embarrassingly run out of wine. While Jesus initially objects to performing a miracle, believing that his time is not yet right, he obeys his mother's wishes. In this miracle, Jesus asks the staff to fill up several huge ceremonial washing jars with water. After tasting it, the head steward is amazed at the quality of the wine now filling the containers. The Gospel of John states that Jesus' action of performing this miracle helped many of the disciples to begin believing in Jesus. (Jn 2:1-11)

2. For $100.00 Fun-Trivia Imaginary Dollars - who led the Israelites out of Egypt towards the Promised Land?

From Quiz Richer Than A Millionaire

Answer: Moses

Yes, it was Moses who led them. In Exodus 3:10-12 God spoke to Moses and gave him instructions to lead the descendants of Israel, (Jacob), out of Egypt. Moses himself did not get to actually enter the Promised Land, however. Joshua led the people to their new home.

3. For $100, to which very small seed does Jesus liken the kingdom of Heaven in Matthew 13?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 13

Answer: mustard

See Matthew 13:31-2. This parable seems to suggest that though the kingdom of God may start very small, it will grow to worldwide size, which is certainly what has happened with the Christian faith. The size of the mustard seed is also used as a reference to faith in Matthew 17:20 and Luke 17:6.

4. For $100, who were the sisters of Lazarus?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 11

Answer: Mary and Martha

See John 11:5, 19. It appears that Jesus had a special friendship with these people, although they were not amongst the 12 disciples. In John Chapter 10 we read of Martha opening her home to Jesus (38-42).

5. For $100, according to John's gospel, how many baskets of leftovers were gathered up by the disciples following the feeding of the 5,000?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 10

Answer: 12

John 6:13. This was after everyone had had enough to eat (v12). It is obvious from this passage that most of the people followed Jesus because of the miracles He had done and for supplying their physical needs (e.g. healing and food) - see verses 2 and 26. However, Jesus went on to tell them that He could satisfy their spiritual needs as well in verses 25-58. The response of many of His followers was to turn away from Him (60-70).

6. For $100, what kind of fruit grew on the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 9

Answer: we do not know

Genesis 3. We are not told what type of fruit grew on the tree, although in verse 6 we are told that Eve saw that it 'was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom'. She ate it herself and offered it to Adam and the rest is history. Traditionally the fruit is spoken of as an apple, but there is no scriptural evidence for this.

7. For $100, how old was Jesus when he got lost in Jerusalem for three days, whilst visiting the Temple with his parents?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 8

Answer: 12

Luke 2:41-52. Jesus was amazed that his parents didn't understand his need to be in God's house, but, even so, they did not understand (v50). The teachers in the temple were amazed at the understanding and knowledge that Jesus showed at such a young age.

8. For $100, which of Jesus's disciples is known as the 'doubting' disciple?

From Quiz Millionaire-Style Bible Quiz 7

Answer: Thomas

This is because of the incident recorded in John 20:24-31. Thomas was not present when Jesus first appeared to his disciples after the resurrection. Thomas said that unless he saw the nail marks on Jesus' hands and the wounds in his side, he would not believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. However, when Jesus appeared to the disciples again in Thomas's presence, Thomas recognized him immediately, saying 'My Lord and my God'. Thomas's other nickname, Didymus, which is mentioned in this passage, means twin in New Testament Greek. However, we do not know who his twin was. There is no evidence in the Bible to suggest that his twin was one of the other disciples.

9. For $100, amongst which animals did the lost son in Luke live, when he ran away from home?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 6

Answer: pigs

Luke 15:15. When his money ran out, he took a job looking after pigs and even ended up eating their food. This would have been particularly abhorrent for a Jew, as they are forbidden to eat pork and other products from a pig; pigs and pigkeeping were an unclean way to spend his time.

10. For $100, who said 'Come and follow me and I will make you fishers of men'?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 5

Answer: Jesus

See Matthew 4:19. With these words, Jesus called Simon and Andrew to be his first disciples. James and John, whom he called shortly afterwards, were also fishermen.

11. For $100, what was David doing when Samuel came to anoint him as king?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 4

Answer: tending his father's sheep

See 1 Samuel 16:1-13. David was chosen by God, whilst he was still young, because God looked at his heart, rather than his physical appearance or strength (verse 7).

12. $100: How many books are there in the Pentateuch?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 3

Answer: 5

This is a common name for the first five books of the Old Testament/Tanakh, ie Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. In the Jewish religion, this collection of books is called the Torah.

13. For $200, which miracle do both Jesus and Peter perform on the Sea of Galilee, according to the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 14)?

From Quiz Who Wants To Be a Biblical Millionaire

Answer: Walking on water

After Jesus performed the miracle of feeding the 5,000, He sends his disciples ahead in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee while He stays behind on the mountain to pray. The wind makes the disciples' journey difficult as they struggle against the waves. In the middle of the night, Jesus frightens His disciples by walking on the sea. Matthew tells us that Peter bravely wants to join Jesus, which at first he does successfully! However, we then read of the wind picking up, causing Peter to be afraid and begin to sink. After Peter cries out for help, Jesus is immediately there to catch the disciple and help him back into the boat. The account of Jesus walking on water is also told in the Gospels of Mark and John, although in these accounts Peter does not leave the boat. As soon as Jesus enters the boat the sea is calmed, and the disciples are safe. (Mt 14:22-34, Mk 6:45-53, and Jn 6:15-21)

14. For $200.00 - which previously married woman became the wife of Boaz, after her first husband had died?

From Quiz Richer Than A Millionaire

Answer: Ruth

Ruth, who was a foreigner, (a Moabite woman, from a country today known as Jordan), married a relative of her mother-in-law, Naomi. Ruth's first husband was one of the sons of Elimelech and Naomi. You can find all this in the Book of Ruth.

15. For $200, in John 12, which disciple criticised the woman who poured out the nard over Jesus' feet?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 12

Answer: Judas Iscariot

John 12:1-10. Judas said: "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." (verse 5) However, this passage tells us that Judas was a thief, because he used to take money given to Jesus and his disciples and keep it for himself.

16. For $200, what was the name of Abraham's father?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 11

Answer: Terah

Genesis 11:27. Although we read in Genesis 12:1 that God had called Abraham to leave his country, his people and his father's household and go to the land that God would show him, we know from this passage that he took many of his family with him, including his father. Nahor and Haran were Abraham's brothers and I hope you recognised that Lot was his nephew (and son of Haran). Lot plays a part in the later story of Abraham, which you can read in the subsequent chapters of Genesis.

17. For $200, which Pharisee came to Jesus by night?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 9

Answer: Nicodemus

John 3. It seems that Nicodemus was genuinely interested in what Jesus taught, unlike most of the Pharisees and other Jewish religious leaders. In John 7:45-52, we read of an incident where the Jewish religious leaders are discussing Jesus' teaching and Nicodemus is the only one who speaks up to defend him. Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, not Pharisees. Gamaliel was a Pharisee, who is mentioned in Acts 22:3 as the teacher of Paul. Gamaliel also appears in Acts 5, when the Sanhedrin is discussing how to deal with the early believers. His advice on that occasion could be considered sound for judging any new religious movement: 'For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.' (5:38-9).

18. For $200, several times in Luke Chapter 2, it is obvious that Mary, the mother of Jesus, heard and saw things that she did not understand. What does the Bible say she did about this?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 8

Answer: treasured them in her heart

Luke 2:19, 51. In verse 19 it also says that she pondered on them in her heart. I think this is a good thing to do with things about God which we do not understand, as understanding may come later.

19. For $200, which bird fits into this New International Version quote from Isaiah 40: 'They will soar on wings like _____'?

From Quiz Millionaire-Style Bible Quiz 7

Answer: eagles

Isaiah 40:31. God promises that he will help and strengthen those who trust in him even when they go through difficult times.

20. For $200, where did Jonah flee to instead of going to Nineveh, as God had commanded?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 6

Answer: Tarshish

Jonah 1:2. Tarshish is about as far in the opposite direction as he could go, believed to be in modern-day Spain. Jonah has been called the prophet of the second chance. As many people know, he was swallowed by a great fish after being thrown overboard during a storm. When the fish eventually spewed him out onto dry land, he went and preached to the people of Nineveh, as God had told him to.

21. For $200, to which country did Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus flee in order to escape Herod?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 5

Answer: Egypt

See Matthew 2:13-18. Herod asked the wise men (Magi) to return to him after they had visited Jesus and tell him where he was, so that he could go and worship him. The wise men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, because he planned to kill Jesus. When Herod realised that the wise men had tricked him, he ordered all the male babies of two years and under to be killed. But God warned Joseph in a dream what was going to happen and told them to flee to Egypt, where they stayed until Herod died. Perhaps one of the interesting things about this story is that Herod ordered all the male babies of two years old and under to be killed. This suggests that the wise men may not have visited Jesus until up to two years after his birth, which is much later than is normally portrayed in religious art and nativity plays.

22. For $200, what was the name of Jacob's youngest son?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 4

Answer: Benjamin

Genesis 35:16-18. Joseph and Benjamin were both born to Jacob's second wife, Rachel, who until that point had been unable to have children. Gad and Reuben were two of the other sons of Jacob.

23. $200: What kind of tree did Zacchaeus climb in order to see Jesus?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 3

Answer: Sycamore-fig

See Luke 19:1-10. Zacchaeus' encounter with Jesus produced in him a complete change of lifestyle.

24. [$200] How did the Israelites cross the Jordan?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 2

Answer: they walked across

See Joshua 3. As soon as the priests set foot in the water, God parted the waves, so that all the Israelites could cross on dry land.

25. For $300, where was Jesus praying right before he was arrested?

From Quiz Who Wants To Be a Biblical Millionaire

Answer: The Garden of Gethsemane

All four gospels say that right before Jesus was arrested he had taken a few disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He requested that his friends stay awake, but every time Jesus came back they were asleep. Jesus knew he was about to be arrested and asked God to reveal another option, but in the end, Jesus promised to fulfill God's will. At the conclusion of the prayer, Judas Iscariot came forward and kissed Jesus on the cheek so the soldiers knew who to arrest. (Mt 26:36-56, Mk 14:32-50, Lk 22:39-53, and Jn 18:1-12)

26. Hmmm... For $300.00 - Which Old Testament prophet ate food that birds provided to him?

From Quiz Richer Than A Millionaire

Answer: Elijah

Living by the waters of a brook during a severe drought, Elijah stayed put for a while and God sent ravens to feed him. Later, a widow with a young son cared for this man of God. (1 Kings 17:3-6, King James Version)

27. For $300, whose head was demanded on a platter by Herodias?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 13

Answer: John the Baptist

See Matthew 14:1-12. Herodias' mother persuaded her to ask for it.

28. For $300, how old was Abraham, when God called him to leave his country?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 12

Answer: 75

Genesis 12:4. God did amazing things through Abraham at an age when most people would have long since retired. Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born and his wife Sarah was 90.

29. For $300, what happened to the child that was born as a result of David and Bathsheba's adultery?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 11

Answer: he died after 7 days

2 Samuel 12:15-23. Nathan, the prophet, was sent by God to David to rebuke him for his adultery and for sending Uriah (Bathsheba's husband) to his death. David repented. However, the child died. It is generally accepted that David wrote Psalm 51, a beautiful psalm of repentance and trust in God, around this time. David and Bathsheba's second son, Solomon, grew up to be possibly the best and wisest king that Israel ever had.

30. For $300, when Jesus sent the twelve disciples out in Mark 6, what were they allowed to take with them?

From Quiz Millionaire Style Bible Quiz 10

Answer: staff

Mark 6:6b-13. In fact, they were expressly forbidden to take the other things. It is obvious from the passage that they were expecting to receive hospitality wherever they went. Indeed, this was the custom in the ancient Near East.
