Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which region of the United Kingdom was Ramsay born?

Answer: Scotland

Gordon Ramsay was born on 8 November 1966 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His family moved around a lot when he was young, until settling in Stratford-upon-Avon. Because of a difficult family life, Ramsay and his older sister left the family home when he was 16.

Gordon Ramsay had first been interested in football (soccer) when he was young, but was frequently plagued by injuries. When it came time to weigh his career options seriously, he found that he did not have enough O-Levels to join the Royal Navy or the police force, and enrolled in Hotel Management at college instead.

A restaurant can receive from one to three stars, with one signifying that it is "a very good restaurant in its category", two meaning "excellent cooking, worth a detour" and three meaning "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey".

The original Gordon Ramsay restaurant was awarded its third Michelin star in 2001, making Ramsay one of only three Brits to hold three stars at one time. Ramsay has also won three Catey awards, for "Independent Restaurateur of the Year" (2006), "Chef of the Year" (2000), and "Newcomer of the Year" (1995).

6. In what activity was Gordon Ramsay participating when he nearly died in 2008?

Answer: hunting

In Iceland in 2008, Ramsay was filming a puffin hunting segment for television when he fell from an 85m cliff into icy water.
