Among Chuck Norris' many celebrities which included personalities such as Priscilla Presley, the Osmonds, Bob Barker, Steve and Chad McQueen. In 1974 Steve McQueen encouraged Chuck to pursue a career in the movies and on television. He allegedly told Chuck "If you can't do anything else, there's always acting".

Chuck joined the United States Air Force in 1958 and was stationed in South Korea where he began his study of the Asian martial art of Tans Soo Do. He also picked up his nickname of "Chuck" while he was in South Korea. After being discharged from the service he worked for Northrop Corporation while continuing to hone his martial arts skills as a part-time karate instructor. Within 2 years he had built up a substantial client base that enabled him to quit his job and open up his own studio and teach karate full time.

He retired from fighting in 1970 and by age 34 he had 32 karate schools. He also had earned a black belt in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwan Do.

It is said that Chuck Norris was offered the role of John Kreese in the 1984 movie "The Karate Kid". There are however conflicting reports as to whether Chuck was offered the role at all. One report is that Chuck turned the role down because he did not want karate instructors shown in a bad light.

In fact this has been declared an urban legend because on a radio show hosted by Adam Corolla on February 9, 2006; Chuck himself stated that he was never even offered the role in the first place.

In the movie "Forest Warrior" (1996) Chuck played the part of John McKenna. John was a spiritual being who was able to transform into a bear, an eagle or a wolf. He lived in the forest of Tanglewood and dedicated his life to protecting all the living beings in the forest.

A group of mean lumberjacks invaded the forest and McKenna and a group of children known as the Lords of Tanglewood battled this group and won. This is a very moving story about protecting our natural environment.

One of the films directed by brother Aaron. Chuck plays cop Jake Wilder whose partner gets killed. Jake likes to work alone but they pair him up with Reno the dog. They then begin to thwart the criminal element. This was not necessarily one of Chuck's better films but it was great fun to watch especially if you enjoy animal co-stars which I do.
