Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which city was Vincent Price born?

Answer: St. Louis

Vincent Price was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 27th, 1911. He was the fourth, and youngest, child of a wealthy family.
2. Vincent went to what college?

Answer: Yale

Vincent graduated from Yale in 1933. Shortly after that, he started with his theatrical talents in England.
3. Vincent Price wanted to be in comedy?

Answer: True

A great comedic talent, Vincent Price also wanted to be a comedian as well as a villain. It would have been great to see him as the star of a comedy. He seemed to steal the show in the comedies in which he did appear!
4. How old was Vincent when he started his career in Hollywood?

Answer: 27

In 1938, Vincent made his movie debut in the film "Service de Luxe". Interestingly, it was a starring role. It's very rare to see an actor starting out in the movies with a starring role.
5. Vincent's first starring role in a horror movie was: "The _________ ___ _______ " ?

Answer: The Invisible Man Returns

Contrary to popular thought, "House of Wax" was NOT the first horror film. In 1940, Vincent played Sir Geoffrey Radcliffe, in this sequel to Claude Rains' version in 1933. In some respects, this is considered superior to the original (but since I'm a LITTLE biased, I won't make a comment on that!)
6. In 1944, Vincent Price was nomiated for Best Supporting Actor in the film noir "Laura" ?

Answer: False

Unfortunately, Vinnie was never recognized for his tremendous talent as an actor. The "Best Supporting Actor" nomination DID go to a character from "Laura", however, that honor was given to the great actor, Clifton Webb, who played Waldo Lydecker. Unfortunately, Mr. Webb did not win the Oscar.
7. Movie quote: "Everything in the world has been taken away from me. But not you, my Marie Antoinette, for I shall give you eternal life." Which film is this from?

Answer: House of Wax

This line is taken from the role that cemented Vinnie in horror films forever, "House of Wax." The other three films have lines just as obscure, especially "House of Usher." But this is the first.
8. What is the name the film that was the first of the Roger Corman/Edgar Allan Poe/Vincent Price collaborations?

Answer: "The Fall of the House of Usher" (1960)

Filmed in 1960, "The Fall of the House of Usher" (aka "House of Usher") was the first of the seven films Roger Corman directed starring Vincent Price and taken from the work of Edgar Allan Poe. Because of the great success of "House of Usher", AIP studios decided to capitalize on it and make some more Price/Poe films, all having great success.
9. Vincent Price's voice is the one you hear on Michael Jackson's "Thriller" ?

Answer: True

Vincent loved to contribute his voice talents to anything, sometimes without even being paid! He also did Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare" in 1977 and was the voice of Professor Ratigan in Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective" in 1986.
10. Which of these shows did Vincent appear on a few times as Egghead?

Answer: Batman

Vincent was in all of the shows mentioned during his career, but only in "Batman" did he have a recurring role as the same character. Television was another genre that Vincent just loved to do.
11. Finish this movie line: "I am going to torture you, Isabella. I'm going to make you suffer for your ______________ to me. Harlot!" ?

Answer: faithlessness

The second of the Price/Poe tales, this one also seems to be the most popular. This line is taken from my favorite part of the movie, the part when Elizabeth finally gets what she deserves. She is put into the iron maiden never to be released. A great movie!
12. Vincent became a father at the age of 51?

Answer: True

Yes, at the age of 51, Vincent became a father. His daughter, Victoria, was born in 1962. Vincent had another child, though. He had a son, Vincent Barrett Price, by his first wife, Edith Barrett, in 1940.
13. Which movie did Vincent often name as his favorite?

Answer: Champagne for Caesar

Finally getting to have a role opposite his idol, Ronald Coleman, Vincent loved making this film. It is absoultely hilarious. If I may recommend only ONE of Vinnie's films, this is the one.
14. How many times did Vincent Price and Gene Tierney appear together on the screen?

Answer: 4

Vincent and Gene appeared in three movies: "Hudson's Bay" (1941), "Laura" (1944), "Leave Her To Heaven" (1945), and "Dragonwyck" (1946), which is the one that they starred opposite each other as husband and wife.
15. Vincent had two sisters and one brother. What were their names?

Answer: Harriet, Lauralouise, James Mortimer

Vincent was the baby of the family. There was quite an age gap between him and his siblings. He and Harriet (Hattie) were were 15 years apart, he and James Mortimer (Mortie) were 12 years apart, and he and Lauralouise (Lollie) were 8 years apart. (I know how he felt--I'm the baby myself with a huge age gap between me and my siblings too.)
16. Vincent's grandfather was a __________ ?

Answer: doctor

Vincent's grandfather, Vincent Clarence Price, was a doctor during the time of the Civil War. He was in Cuba during the Spanish American War, in 1899, to help with the injured soldiers. He also liked to mess around with his chemistry set. He wound up inventing baking soda as well.
17. What was Vincent's middle name?

Answer: Leonard

Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. was his full name. I've always wondered if he liked the middle name of Leonard. I guess we'll never know.
18. A movie quote: "Don't stay up all night thinking of ways to get rid of me. It makes wrinkles." What film is this one from?

Answer: House on Haunted Hill

This is my favorite line from this film. I just recently saw the 1999 version, and I won't make a comment because again, I am slightly biased. But, of course, Vinnie fans will say their favorite one is this 1958 version!
19. Vincent's favorite hobby was _____ collecting?

Answer: art

Vincent was considered one of the greatest authorities on art in Hollywood. He was even on "The 64,000 Dollar Challenge" in 1956 with his category of art. If my memory serves me correctly, I read that he got up to the very last question before he was finally stumped. Not bad.
20. Here's the sad one. Vincent died on what date?

Answer: October 25, 1993

On October 25, 1993, Vincent died at the age of 82 from Parkinson's Disease and complications of lung cancer.
