Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start this world tour with Kathy Ireland, the cover model of "Sports Illustrated's 25th Anniversary Swimsuit Issue". She founded kiWW (Kathy Ireland WorldWide) a fashion/home furnishing company now worth about $420 billion. Ms. Ireland was moved to expand her business aspirations after the early success of her own clothing line associated with what store?

Answer: Kmart

You would think Kathy Ireland would have a Kmart in the country of Ireland, but alas that country bearing her name is Kmart-less. In 1993 Kathy Ireland released her own line of socks for the Kmart retail chain. When that small endeavor proved to be a huge success it was only natural that the supermodel expand the business into a line of clothing.

The truth was that with Kmart she was only licensing the use of her name to them, but when she founded Kathy Ireland Worldwide she was the CEO and majority owner.

She let her contractual ties to Kmart expire and concentrated her efforts on clothing, furnishings (upon the advice of mentor Warren Buffet), and other products. Her products are sold now in 60,000 locations in 15 countries.
2. Chad Everett was best known for his role as Dr. Joe Gannon on what TV show?

3. Actress Hilary Swank was married to which actor with a country in his name when she forgot to thank him in her acceptance speech for her Best Actress Oscar?

Answer: Chad Lowe

Yes, in 2000, Hilary Swank forgot to mention Chad Lowe in her acceptance speech onstage for when she won Best Actress for "Boys Don't Cry". Afterward he would say, "I felt bad for her because I knew immediately. I could see in her eye the second she was off [stage] that she realized that. I felt for her more than I felt for myself." She made up for it though, five years later, in 2005, when she won again for "Million Dollar Baby" and said, when accepting the award, "I am going to start by thanking my husband because I'd like to think I learn from past mistakes. Chad, you're my everything. Thank you for your support.

It means the world."

Answer: England Dan

England Dan and John Ford Coley had a slew of popular hits in the 70s including "Lady", "It's Sad To Belong", and "Love is the Answer". England Dan got his name from his brother Jim when they were kids, because Dan was so obsessed with the Beatles, that he would put on an English accent to sound like them. Dan had a country music career following years in the duo with Coley--his hits in the 80s and 90s included "You Still Move Me", "Love on Arrival" and "Meet Me in Montana" which was a duet he sang with Marie Osmond.

For playing Pat on "Everybody Loves Raymond" she was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The country of Georgia is located on the eastern shoreline of the Black Sea.

Answer: Cuba Gooding, Jr.

Cuba, an Oscar-winner for his brilliantly ebullient performance in "Jerry Maguire" was born in the Bronx, on January 2, 1968. Cuba began his show business career as a break dancer, so he was the perfect actor to perform his character's end-zone dance, which was choreographed by Paula Abdul. Cuba's character was an NFL wide receiver named Rod Tidwell, and in his scene with Tom Cruise over the phone, Cuba made "Show me the money!" an oft-repeated catchphrase.
8. John Ireland was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1914 and forged a Hollywood acting career as a sly character, sometimes even a dangerous one. His sole nomination for an Oscar (Best Supporting Actor) was for playing a reporter in what 1949 film?

Answer: All The King's Men

"All The King's Men" is the only film of those listed in which John Ireland appeared, playing Jack Burden a reporter whose role is actually much larger in the book than in the film. He's actually the protagonist in the novel by Robert Penn Wareen, but here Richard Rossen's film, Willie Stark (Broderick Crawford) takes on a larger role. For his efforts, John Ireland became the first Vancouver-born actor to be nominated for an Oscar.
9. America Ferrara rose to fame playing the title role on the TV series "Ugly Betty". What was her character's last name?

Answer: Suarez

At the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2007, America was a co-presenter of an award, and her co-presenter, Forest Whitaker commented, "So you're Ugly Betty? More like America the Beautiful." America Ferrara also won a SAG Award that evening--for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, playing the character Betty Suarez in "Ugly Betty". She was nominated again the following two years but didn't win. The Golden Globes followed this pattern, she won in 2007, but lost in both 2008 and 2009. And in the Emmy Awards again, she won in 2007, but lost the next year.
10. Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger have a daughter that has become a very successful model and social media figure. What did they name her?

Answer: Ireland Baldwin

Why was she named Ireland? When asked this, her father has joked that it was because she "is beautiful but can't but can't handle her finances." Ireland Baldwin was born on October 23, 1995 as Ireland Eliesse Baldwin to Kim Basinger. Ireland stands a very tall 6 feet, which no doubt helped her modeling career, along with the good looks in the genes of her mother Kim and father Alec.

In 2013 she signed up with the IMG Models agency. She posed nude in 2018 as part of her campaign for animal rights: as a member of PETA she was part of their "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" advertisements.

She has continued to retain a "no fur" policy in her modeling contracts.
