Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the hitman and secondary antagonist in "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" (2004)?

Answer: Dennis

Sheldon Plankton wants Eugene H. Krabs dead. He comes up with a foolproof scheme - he steals King Neptune's crown, flogs it off to Shell City and then frames Krabs for it. The King sentences Krabs to death by burning unless he can retrieve the crown within six days. "That wasn't how it was supposed go down," thinks Plankton and, what's worse, that meddlesome duo of SpongeBob and Patrick set off on a quest to retrieve it. That's when Plankton calls in Dennis, a vicious, cold blooded predator.

2. Assassin Droids are a staple of the "Star Wars" Extended Universe. One particular droid, originally seen in the video game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic", has become a fan favorite. Can you identify which one of these droids is particularly good at killing "meatbags"?

Answer: HK-47

HK-47 was created around 3960 Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY) by the Sith Lord Darth Revan, and played a large part in the "Knights of the Old Republic" series. While in the service of Revan, HK-47 called Revan's apprentice a "meatbag". Revan enjoyed his apprentice's reaction so much that he programed HK-47 to refer to all organic beings as "meatbags". HK-47 was so popular that his character was revived in the "Star Wars: Galaxies" games, which take place over 3000 years later. By this time his conscience was lost inside a starship's computer on the planet Mustafar, the same planet where Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Darth Vader and where Vader received the injuries that placed him in his iconic suit.

C3PO is the protocol droid created by Anakin Skywalker that appears prominently in the six movies. BB-8 is a small ball-shaped droid that has been presented in trailers for Star Wars Episode 7. IG-88 is an assassin droid that operated as a bounty hunter during the time of the movies, and was one of the bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to hunt down Han Solo in "The Empire Strikes Back".

3. The Clash song "Guns on the Roof" from their 1978 album "Give 'Em Enough Rope" was inspired by the capture of a rooftop sniper during the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth's thirty years as a monarch.

Answer: False

The Queen's thirty year milestone was reached in 1982, well after the song was written. The track, however, had its roots in an incident that involved the band's drummer, Topper Headon, and their bass player, Paul Simonon, who had climbed onto the roof of their rehearsal building and were firing shots at pigeons with an air rifle. A British Rail worker spotted them and reported them to CID who responded with (as described by Paul Simonon) "a helicopter, eight police vans and the Sweeney (Flying Squad) with guns. All we had was an air rifle". Whilst the song uses passages from the boys' appearance in court in its opening lines, it soon launches into an attack on international terrorism and corrupt governments.

4. The Hassassin, aka The Killer, plays a major role as a secondary antagonist manipulated by the Illuminati in which Dan Brown novel?

Answer: Angels & Demons

The Hassassin is modelled after the Medieval Haschaschin of Hassan Ibn Sabbah. He is manipulated by Janus of the Illuminati into carrying out their wishes. Because of his Arab descent he is a willing pawn in the Illuminati's attacks on the Roman Catholic Church in revenge for the crusades. The novel starts with him stealing anti-matter and then he is instrumental in the kidnapping and murder of the four cardinals. In the movie his nationality and motivation are ignored and he is merely an assassin motivated by money.

"The Subtle Knife" (1997) and "The Amber Spyglass" (2000) are both from Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series.

5. Stephen Sondheim's musical "Assassins" opened on Broadway in 2004. Who were the targets of the assassins in the production's storyline?

Answer: US Presidents

The play is set in a fairground where the main attraction is a shooting gallery. An announcer steps forward to cajole the patrons to step right up and take a shot. "Kill a President and your problems will be solved". Amongst the members in the gathering throng are notorious figures such as Leon Czolgosz (assassin of William McKinley), "Squeaky" Fromme (attempted assassination of Gerald Ford), John Hinckley (attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan) and John Wilkes Booth (assassin of Abraham Lincoln) to name a few. The musical seeks to examine the reasons behind their attempts and, in the process, cleverly intertwines personal references from their own stories with their interactions with each other. For example, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, a Charles Manson devotee, spies Hinckley in a corner playing guitar and tries to charm him into playing "Helter Skelter". Another clever ploy that Sondheim employs is the use of various styles of music, depicting each era that was being showcased at the time. A number of different productions have been created since the show's off-Broadway debut in 1990. The 2004 Broadway production received seven Tony Award nominations and was successful in five of those categories.

6. The League of Assassins is a group of DC Comics villains that are antagonists to which wealthy superhero?

Answer: Batman

The League of Assassins was founded by one of Batman's more well-known enemies, Ra's al Ghul. The League of Assassins is one of many organizations that make up a larger, international conglomerate known as The Demon.

Batman's alter ego is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy entrepreneur who uses his abilities as a polymath to fight crime in the fictional city of Gotham.

7. Kate Beckett and Rick Castle travel to Los Angeles to discover the killer of Kate's ex-partner and mentor, Mike Royce, in the "Castle" episode "To Love and Die in L.A". During their investigation they discover that the assassin has been using a little science to make it harder to identify the weapon, as he uses what sort of bullets?

Answer: Dissolving bullets

As the bullets were being examined, they dissolved in the petri dish; so while they didn't have bullets to study, it narrowed down the people who would have been able to obtain such items.

The killer, Russell Ganz, had arranged for the dissolving bullets to be stolen from the manufacturer. Because Beckett and Castle had no official standing as police officers in L.A., they tricked the security guard who stole the bullets into giving the name of the killer. They did this by using the set of 'Heat Wave', the location where Castle's book is being filmed.

Gene Simmons makes an appearance as himself in this episode.

8. Real stars disappear and are replaced by fakes, giving rise to "contractors" with special abilities in which Japanese anime series that first aired in 2007?

Answer: Darker Than Black

A spatial anomaly sees the creation of two "gates" in the world; "Heaven's Gate" in South America and "Hell's Gate" in Tokyo. At the same time supernatural abilities surface in a range of people around the globe. These people become known as "Contractors" and they use their abilities to kill. However, the use of these powers tends to come at a cost and you will often hear a contractor exclaiming that they're "paying the price". Their identities are kept secret and they are employed by various governments and other organizations to carry out assassinations or espionage missions.

9. Which member of the Fonda clan starred in the 1993 action film "Point of No Return" aka "The Assassin"?

John Badham directed the remake which starred Bridget Fonda and Gabriel Byrne. Bridget is a young drug addict, Maggie, who is sentenced to death for killing a police officer. 10. Three of the following have released songs titled "Assassin" but with different lyrical content set to different tunes. Which cool dude is the odd one out?

Answer: Ice Cube

Motörhead, an English band, had a song named "Assassin" on their "Snake Bite Love" album in 1998. The lyrics tell of how the assassin holds death in his hand and how armies should fear him.

Muse, also an English band, released "Assassin" in 2006 on their album "Black Holes and Revelations". The lyrics speak of an assassin being born from political chaos.

"Assassin" is one of the tracks on American singer John Mayer's 2009 album, "Battle Studios". In it he talks about being an assassin who meets a girl assassin, most probably using assassin metaphorically in a romantic sense.
