Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which fictional mobster from Newark has a wife named Carmela, a daughter named Meadow and son named after him?

Answer: Tony Soprano

Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini, was the protagonist of the drama "The Sopranos". Tony was in deep with the DiMeo Crime Family in New Jersey and often found himself in tight situations either making decisions or being the target of other crime families.

His day job was a waste management consultant but he also co-owned a strip club and a butcher. Tony's connections to the mob often caused problems for his family and friends, many of whom were targeted, killed or kidnapped by rivals. Throughout the series, Tony struggled to cope mentally with the effect his connections were having on himself and others.
2. Princeton native, archeology professor and adventurer Indiana Jones has what first name?

Answer: Henry

Henry "Indiana" Jones was originally from Princeton, New Jersey but he taught at fictional Marshall College, part of Yale. Portrayed by Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones was a stereotypical adventurer from the 1930s. He carried a whip and a pistol and wore a fedora and a leather jacket.

He seemed to have knowledge of just about every ancient culture imaginable and had a morbid fear of snakes.
3. What is the actual occupation of Stephanie Plum, protagonist of Janet Evanovich's mystery novels set in Trenton?

Answer: Bounty hunter

Stephanie Plum was originally a lingerie buyer but was laid off and took a job as file clerk for her cousin's bail bond business. She quickly became a bounty hunter in her own right. The Stephanie Plum novels tend to be grittier and more hardboiled than most mystery novels featuring female protagonists. Stephanie is often chasing after criminals, those who skipped court appearances and others.

The novel titles follow a numerical series starting with "One for the Money" and "Two for the Dough" and so on.
4. Which of the main characters from "The Big Bang Theory" is originally from New Jersey and had parents who were both academics with whom he has a strained relationship?

Answer: Leonard Hofstadter

Leonard was played by Johnny Galecki and was born in New Jersey. His mother Beverly was a neuroscientist and his father Arthur was an anthropologist. Leonard had a strained relationship with both, but especially his mother. Leonard's childhood was deprived of love and everything was a study for his mother to learn from and research. He never celebrated birthdays or holidays. Leonard also lived in the shadow of his older brother and sister who were both more successful than he was.

Leonard attended Princeton University and moved to California to take a job at Caltech in the physics department. It was there he met his roommate Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and friends Howard and Raj (Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar). He later lived across the way from Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and despite their totally different personalities, they eventually married.
5. True or False: Batman (Bruce Wayne) is a resident of New Jersey, not New York as commonly believed.

Answer: True

It is a popular misconception that Gotham City is actually located within New York City. It is true that Gotham is used sometimes as a nickname for New York City but in the DC Universe, Gotham City is actually in New Jersey.

Batman, born Bruce Wayne, lives on the outskirts of Gotham City with his butler Alfred. Bruce Wayne is a wealthy industrialist who turned to crime fighting after witnessing the brutal murder of his parents. His sidekick is Robin (Dick Greyson, originally).
6. Harold Lee and Kumar Patel are New Jersey friends have an interesting journey to which fast food location in their film debut?

Answer: White Castle

Harold and Kumar (John Cho and Kal Penn) debuted in "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle", a comedy film. Both friends are stoners who want to crave their munchies at White Castle but, due to their inebriation, are hindered by a series of bizarre events. In a future film, Harold and Kumar are mistaken for terrorists and sent to Guantanamo Bay Prison.
7. Southern New Jersey's Belcher Family are famous for what kind of food in an animated sitcom?

Answer: Burgers

The Belcher Family is the main family on "Bob's Burgers". The patriarch is Bob Belcher who owns the titular Bob's Burger restaurant. Bob is known for coming up with creative names to sell his burgers under such as the "Poblano Picasso Burger" and the "Away in a Mango Burger". His wife is named Linda and they have three children Tina, Gene and Louise.

The exact location where the show is set is unclear. It did not appear to have any consistent setting until season three established it somewhere along the Jersey Shore area.
8. The Jersey Devil, one of America's most infamous mythological creatures, is said to reside in which part of New Jersey?

Answer: Pine Barrens

The Pine Barrens are a large forested area in southern New Jersey. It is said to be home to the Jersey Devil, a large flying creature. There are many descriptions on just what the Jersey Devil looks like. The most common descriptions are a giant-pterodactyl like creature, a dragon or a flying kangaroo.

It is almost always said to have bat-like wings. There have been thousands of alleged sightings since 1909.
9. Hugh Laurie's House, a physician at teaching hospital in Princeton, had what first name, although no one ever called him by it?

Answer: Gregory

Gregory House was the main character on the Princeton-set medical drama "House". He was surly and ill-tempered, though he did have respect for a few of his colleagues. He was often harsh toward patients and loved ones who lied to him preventing or delaying an accurate diagnosis. Oftentimes, his patients had unusual, rare or exotic diseases that were not easily diagnosed. Having been a military brat, House acquired extensive knowledge which often aided him in his career.
10. New Jersey-born Irene Adler, occasional romantic interest to Sherlock Holmes, debuted in which Holmes story?

Answer: A Scandal in Bohemia

In "A Scandal in Bohemia", the King of Bohemia meets with Sherlock to retrieve an incriminating photo of him and Irene Adler. The King wishes to marry but his wedding could be in jeopardy if his future wife learns about his affair with Irene Adler. It is during the course of this investigation that Holmes learns about Adler. She was born in New Jersey and toured Europe as an opera singer.

Irene Adler was not originally a romantic partner of Holmes and she only appeared in this one original Arthur Conan Doyle story. Instead, Holmes found Adler brilliant and admirable. It is modern adaptations that portray Adler as a romantic interest of Holmes.
