Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which tween/teen sitcom of the '90s were Cory and Shawn the best of friends through thick and thin?

Answer: Boy Meets World

"Boy Meets World" originally ran from 1993 to 2000 and was one of the staple shows of ABC's TGIF lineup. Cory Matthews was the titular character, who was 11 years old when the show began.

The series followed Cory as he grew up, including his experiences in school, with his family, with his girlfriend and later wife Topanga, and with his often-troubled best friend Shawn. Cory and Shawn were all but inseperable. In fact, when Cory and Topanga got married, he and Shawn got into a big fight because they were concerned their friendship would come to end because Cory was getting married. All ended well though, and Shawn stood with Cory, arms each other, while Cory and Topanga said their vows. At the end of the series, Shawn even moved with Cory and Topanga to New York.
2. On the teen drama "The O.C." lead character Seth Cohen was a friendless loner until a brother figure came along. Who became Seth's best friend for life in the first season of this show?

Answer: Ryan

At the beginning of the series, Seth's do-gooder lawyer father, Sandy, brought home one of his juvenile offender clients, Ryan Atwood, to live with the Cohen family. While Cohen matriarch Kirsten was extremely hesitant about the arrangement at first, Seth and Ryan hit it off and became fast friends. Ryan stuck up for Seth and with Ryan's help, Seth became a lot more social and made more friends, including his girlfriend Summer Roberts. Seth and Ryan treated each other not only as best friends, but as real brothers; Ryan in fact became much closer with Seth than he ever was with his own biological brother.
3. One of the more blatant examples of a bromance (even Wikipedia describes it as "an American bromantic comedy") is the 2009 movie "I Love You, Man". In the movie, Paul Rudd played Peter, who was about to get married who realized he had no close male friends. Who co-starred in the movie as the man who became Peter's best friend and best man?

Answer: Jason Segel

Jason Segel starred as Sydney Fife, an easy going and somewhat eccentric guy. Sydney and Peter met when Peter was attempting to sell a mansion and Sydney attended the open house for the free food and to meet women. The two became fast friends and bonded over their love of the rock band Rush. Though they had a fight and Peter fired Sydney from being his best man, Peter's fiancee, Zooey, invited Sydney to the wedding anyway, where he and Peter made up. Peter and Zooey got married and Sydney stood up as the best man after all. Peter and Sydney later performed a Rush song together at the reception.
4. In most episodes of "House", the title character's relationship with his best friend Wilson often seemed awfully one-sided. House often took advantage of Wilson's generosity and caring nature, but in the end, House proved he cared a lot about Wilson too. What happened at the end of the series?

Answer: House faked his own death in order to spend time with Wilson.

James Wilson was pretty much Dr. House's only friend through eight seasons of "House". He did a lot of favours for House, bailed him out of trouble many times and stood by him through his struggles with addiction to pain medication. He genuinely cared for House. Throughout most of the series, House didn't always treat Wilson equally as well in return, but when Wilson revealed in the final season that he had cancer, House was there for him. When it was determined that treatment hadn't worked and Wilson was going to die, they made plans to spend Wilson's remaining months together.

It got complicated, however, when House was found to be in violation of his parole (he'd been in jail at the beginning of the season - long story), he was supposed to be headed to jail for a time period that would exceed the rest of Wilson's life. In order to be with his friend, House faked his death (and gave up the one thing that he enjoyed, diagnostic medicine) by switching his dental records with a patient's and it was the patient's body that was found in a burned building, not House's. At the very end of the series, House and Wilson were seen going off on a motorcycle trip together.
5. This pair of best buddies from one of the biggest hit sitcoms of the '90s and early 2000s were often shown arguing as if they were a married couple, such as when they adopted a baby chick and duck and argued over caring for them. What were the first names of these bromantic pals?

Answer: Joey and Chandler

It was Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing from "Friends" who raised the chick (who later became a rooster) and duck together. They were roommates when the series began; another 'married couple' type fight occurred between them when Joey wanted to move out into his own place. He did move out, but moved back in shortly after when he lost his job on "Days of Our Lives".

The two then lived together until Chandler moved out, to live with Monica, in season six. Despite not living together anymore, Chandler still took care of and helped Joey a lot. At the end of the series, when Chandler and Monica were moving out of the city to raise their family, they made sure to have a room in their new house for Joey to stay in.
6. In the movie "Wedding Crashers" (2005), John and Jeremy were best friends who liked to crash weddings to meet women while avoiding committed relationships. Their friendship hit a snag, though, when Jeremy became serious about one of the girls he met at a wedding. Who starred in this movie as John and Jeremy?

Answer: Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn

Early on in the movie, John and Jeremy crashed the wedding of the daughter of the Secretary of the Treasury. At this wedding, they met the bride's sisters Claire and Gloria Cleary, and ended up befriending the family (under their false 'wedding crasher' identities) and going to their home for the weekend. John fell for Claire, who had a jerk boyfriend (later fiance), and Jeremy had Gloria become obsessed with him. The Cleary family found out about John and Jeremy's real identities and they were kicked out of the Cleary house.

Back in their real lives, John was still plotting about how to get together with Claire. He went to her engagement party to talk to her and was upset when Jeremy didn't show up to help him. It turned out that Jeremy was still seeing Gloria and was with her instead of helping John, which ended their friendship for awhile. Jeremy and Gloria got married in the end and John showed up, leading not only to repairing his friendship with Jeremy but to his getting back in Claire's good graces.
7. Hank Moody, a writer, a womanizer and often a screw-up, has a bromance with his agent and best friend, Charlie Runkle. What show do these characters belong to?

Answer: Californication

"Californication" premiered in 2007. David Duchovny stars as Hank and Evan Handler plays Charlie. The two have their ups and down throughout the show, a major 'down' occuring when Hank is fired from his job as screenwriter for a movie in season five and Charlie begins representing Hank's replacement writer (who also happens to Hank's daughter's boyfriend).

After every disagreement, they make up and generally shown to be very close. They have professed their bromantic love for each other many times.
8. In a movie written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Jonah Hill played teenaged Seth and Michael Cera played Evan. Seth and Evan were the best of friends, worried about what would happen to their friendship after high school. What movie was this?

Answer: Superbad

The plot of "Superbad" (2007) mostly took place over the course of one night. Seth and Evan, wanting to be cool and impress the girls they liked, agreed to get the alcohol to bring to a party, with their friend Fogell's ridiculous 'McLovin' fake ID, that somehow actually worked. Though the ID worked, Seth and Evan's night does not go as planned.

They ended up at a different party, where they not only stole alcohol to bring to their high school party, they got into a big fight. They later made up after the party, in a funny sleepover scene during which they discussed their fears about attending separate collegs and told each other how much the friendship meant to them.
9. This may be one of the oldest bromances out there. This pair has lived together on "Sesame Street" for decades. Though the platonic status of their relationship has been questioned over the years, the show's creators maintain that the two are just best friends. What are the names of these characters?

Answer: Bert and Ernie

Bert and Ernie are friends who share an apartment. Though they annoy each other at times with their different personalities, Ernie being easy-going and fun loving while Bert is much more responsible, they have stuck by each other and are always willing to help each other out.

There have been many people over the years, especially all over the internet, who claim that Bert and Ernie are actually a gay couple. There was even a petition put forth by an LGBT group to have the characters get married on the show to promote marriage equality. The show's creators have responded to all such claims that Bert and Ernie are best friends and nothing more; while they have human characteristics and are identified as males, they are children's puppets and do not have sexual orientations.
10. Before there was the so-called 'Frat Pack', there was this Hollywood bromance. They grew up together, appeared in movies together, such as "Dogma", won an Oscar together, and have a production company together. One half of this pair is Matt Damon; who is the other half?

Answer: Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon grew up near each other in Massachusetts; they're actually tenth cousins, once removed. The first major film the pair were in together was 1992's "School Ties". Around the same time they began working on the script that would be "Good Will Hunting". The movie was made in 1997 and won several Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay. In addition to main roles in "Dogma" (1999), both Damon and Affleck have appeared in small roles in several films directed by their mutual friend Kevin Smith.

They first founded, along with a couple other producers, the production company LivePlanet. In 2010, they branched out and formed Pearl Street Films, under Warner Bros. Damon and Affleck also team up outside of films, such as by hosting political fundraisers.
