HBK returned to the ring at "Summerslam" 2002 to take on his former bet friend Triple H in a Non-Sanctioned Match. Many wondered how Michaels would be able to perform after four years of being absent, but after reversing a "Pedigree" attempt, Shawn Michaels pinned Triple H with a bridge pin to capture the victory, much to the delight of the fans in Long Island.

The celebration would not last long, as Triple H struck Michaels in the lower back with a sledgehammer shortly after the match and left him motionless in the ring.
