Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Thomas Wolfe wrote "You Can't Go Home Again". Why was that true of the protagonist in that novel?

Answer: He had written about his hometown and its residents

Wolfe's protagonist, George Webber, burned his bridges (so to speak) when he wrote his book.
2. Who had a hit with a song that observed that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone"?

Answer: Joni Mitchell

"Big Yellow Taxi". "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone". How very, very true.
3. What poet longed to "sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept"?

Answer: John Clare

The poem is usually entitled "I Am". For all his talent - he's often referred to as an English Burns - Clare lived a life of poverty and hardship, culminating in institutionalization.

Answer: Gig Young

All four of these starred in episodes of the "Twilight Zone", but Gig Young is the person who journeys back.
5. Who said that "youth is wasted on the young"?

Answer: George Bernard Shaw

If anyone ever wants to know how to be profound and obvious at the same time, refer him (or her) to this quote. Simple, yet brilliant.
6. Who said that "youth is the only thing worth having"?

Answer: Oscar Wilde

Perhaps a bit of an over-statement ... but Wilde was definitely on the right track. (See preceding question and comment.)

Well-done by Chapin. Interesting song to listen to.
10. What poet wistfully reflected on his youth in "I Remember, I Remember"?

Answer: Thomas Hood

"I remember, I remember the house where I was born/the little window where the sun came peeking in at dawn/it never came a bit too soon nor brought too long a day/but now I often wish the night would steal my breath away".
