Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Getafix

Answer: The Adventures of Asterix

The Asterix series of comics (1961 onwards) were written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. They tell the tales of a small village in Gaul, in 50BC, still holding out against the Romans. Getafix is the village druid who is famed for his strength-enhancing potion, although he also doubles up occasionally as the doctor or village teacher.
2. Violet Baudelaire

Answer: A Series of Unfortunate Events

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" (1999-2006) Is the name of the series of books by Lemony Snicket. Violet is the eldest of the three Baudelaire orphans who is also a resourceful inventor, a skill which has saved her and her siblings, Klaus and Sunny, from near-certain death on countless occasions.
3. Ron Weasley

Answer: Harry Potter

Tales of the boy wizard, Harry Potter (1997-2007), by J.K. Rowling would not be complete without his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Ron has the trademark red hair of his family and has to make do with a wand passed down from one of his brothers. This does not lend itself to perfect magic, as the wand is held together with sticky tape, which often causes it to malfunction.
4. Lyra Belacqua

Answer: His Dark Materials

Lyra Belacqua, also known as Lyra Silvertongue, is a young girl who lives in a universe parallel to ours in the "His Dark Materials" (1995-2000) trilogy from Philip Pullman. She possesses an uncanny ability to tell complex lies which, although they infuriate her guardians, are often the reason for her avoiding death or preventing the death of others.
5. Peeta Mellark

Answer: The Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeen, as the female tribute from District 12, is the best known character from this trilogy (2008-2010) by Suzanne Collins. Peeta Mellark is the male tribute, also from District 12. By working together to become joint winners of the Hunger Games, they unintentionally start a rebellion against the government.
6. Mallory Grace

Answer: The Spiderwick Chronicles

The "Spiderwick Chronicles" (2003-2009) is a series written by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black about the Grace children, who with their mother move into the rundown Spiderwick Estate and discover a thriving fairy world. Mallory Grace is the older sister of twins Simon and Jared, and also an enthusiastic fencer.

Her sword skills are very useful, as the children battle several goblins along with the ogre, Mulgarath.
7. Mallory Pike

Answer: The Baby-Sitters Club

"The Baby-Sitters Club" was a series of books written by Ann M. Martin between 1986 and 2000. Not surprisingly, the books concern a group of baby-sitters and their lives in a fictional Connecticut town. Initially Mallory fails her tests to become a member of the Baby-Sitters Club, but eventually the other members relent and allow her in.

She first appeared in the 14th book of the series, titled "Hello, Mallory" (1988).
8. Henry Alden

Answer: The Boxcar Children

The first 19 books in "The Boxcar Children" (1924-2020) were written by Gertrude Chandler Warner, and titles since 1991 have been authored by a variety of authors. The series concerns four orphaned children who go from living in a boxcar in a forest to living with their wealthy grandfather.

Henry Alden is the oldest of the four children, who is very protective of his younger siblings, particularly when solving any the many mysteries in which the children seem to be constantly involved. Although some of their sleuthing may appear to have a supernatural side to it, down-to-earth Henry can always see a practical reason for any unusual events.
9. Rose Hathaway

Answer: Vampire Academy

"Vampire Academy", the first book in this series, was published in 2007, with the sixth and final novel, "Last Sacrifice" coming out in 2010. The books, written by Richelle Mead, tell the tale of Rose Hathaway and her attempts to become guardian to her best friend, Lissa Dragomir, who as a Moroi brought Rose back to life.

As well as exploring the bond between Rose and Lissa, the books also cover the protracted romance between Rose and Dimitri Belikov. The romance is forbidden because he is her instructor in guardianship.
10. Lena "Lenny" Kaligaris

Answer: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

The best selling series "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" began in 2001 and ended in 2011, with "Sisterhood Everlasting", the fifth book in the series written by Ann Brashares. The basic plot of the series, in which four friends find a magical pair of jeans which fits each of them perfectly, may sound flimsy but it is anything other than that.

The books focus heavily on lessons learned through friendship and love, using the pants as a symbol of the unbreakable bond between the girls.
