Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character is the only one to appear in all seven of the Narnia books?

Answer: Aslan

Aslan is the central character of the "Narnia Chronicles". It was Aslan who brought Narnia into existence. Although there are notable traditional Christian themes running throughout the books, C.S. Lewis also used references to classical mythology. An example of this is Fledge, the winged horse, which can be compared to the winged horse Pegasus from Greek mythology.
2. In "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", after Lucy had lunch with the faun, Mr Tumnus, whom does she meet in Narnia for the first time?

Answer: Edmund

Mr Tumnus is a servant of the White Witch, and after confirming with Lucy that she is a human, he plans to kidnap her and take her to the White Witch. Mr Tumnus, however, has a conscience, and does not go through with his plan. This causes the White Witch to be very angry with him.
3. We are introduced to Rumblebuffin in the book "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". What type of creature is he?

Answer: A Giant

"The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" was written and published in 1950. In the first draft of the book, the names of the children were Ann, Martin, Rose and Peter.
4. In the book "Prince Caspian" we are told that Peter recovered what article from the treasure chamber and his treasure chest at Cair Paravel?

Answer: His sword

Peter received a sword named Rhindon, along with a shield, as a gift from Father Christmas in the earlier book "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". It is engraved with the following inscription:

"BY CHRISTMAS GIFTS, COLD EVIL LIFTS,
HALLS WILL SING OF A BOY MADE KING"
5. When Trumpkin the dwarf journeyed to Cair Paravel in the book "Prince Caspian", what was the only weapon he took with him?

Answer: A dagger

Trumpkin is sometimes referred to as "The Red Dwarf"; this is due to him having a beard and whiskers which cover most of his face.
6. In the book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", what animal asks Lucy, Edmund and Eustace to join it for breakfast after the three of them have said goodbye to Reepicheep?

Answer: The Lamb

Only Edmund and Lucy, of the four Pevensie children, return to Narnia in the book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". The book was first published in 1952.
7. In the book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", as The Dawn Treader sailed toward The End of the World, what type of flower could be seen in the water?

Answer: White Lilies

The area of water on which the Dawn Treader sailed when they saw flowers like white lilies floating was given two names; that of Lily Lake and of Silver Sea. The name which was finally chosen, and which was shown on Caspian's map, was Silver Sea.
8. In The Book "The Horse and His Boy", Aslan says that Rabadash will turn back into an ass if he strays more than how many miles from The Great Temple of Tashban?

Answer: 10 miles

Rabadash is first referred to in chapter 4 of the book "The Horse and His Boy", but makes his actual appearance in chapter 7. He is described as being "a dark-skinned tall young man, wearing a feathered and jewelled turban on his head." He is the eldest son of King Tisroc and heir to the throne of Calorman.
9. Does Aravis become Queen of Archenland at the end of the book "The Horse and His Boy"?

Answer: Yes

Archenland is a mountainous country which borders the land of Narnia to the south. The Castle of Archenland is called Anvard.
10. Who does the Black Knight turn out to be in "The Silver Chair" chronicle?

Answer: Prince Rilian

"The Silver Chair" is the first book in the Narnia series that does not include the "Pevensie" children as key characters. The main earthling characters are Eustace Scrub, cousin to the Penvensies, and a school friend of his, Jill Pole.
11. In "The Silver Chair", Prince Rilian is persuaded not to take a trip to the Land of Bism by whom?

Answer: Puddlegum

Puddleglum is a Marshwiggle. Marshwiggles are well known for their pessimistic view on life. It is thought that C.S. Lewis based the character of Puddleglum on his gardener, who was known to have a pessimistic outlook on life.
12. At the beginning of the book "The Magician's Nephew", when Digory climbs the back garden wall of the house where he is living, he sees which person on the other side?

Answer: Polly Plummer

"The Magician's Nephew" tells of the creation of Narnia by Aslan prior to the visit by the Pevensie children in the book "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." "The Magician's Nephew" was first published in 1955 and was dedicated to "The Kilmer Family".
13. In "The Magician's Nephew" Fledge, the flying horse, had wings that shone with which two colours?

Answer: Copper and Chestnut

The winged horse Fledge was originally an ordinary horse named Strawberry. Fledge became the father of all winged horses.
14. At the beginning of "The Last Battle", we are told that Shift the Ape had one friend and neighbour, who was called Puzzle. What type of animal is Puzzle?

Answer: Donkey

Puzzle was a donkey in the final chronicle of the Narnia series. In the book "The Last Battle," Puzzle allows himself to be dressed up as a lion and pass himself off as Aslan. At the end of the book Puzzle is forgiven for his misdeeds by the real Aslan and he is allowed to remain in the Narnia.
15. In the book "The Last Battle", following the disappearance of Old Narnia, who was found sitting under a Chestnut Tree?

Answer: Emeth

Emeth was from the Calorman race and had been brought up to be a devotee of the god Tash. He was the seventh son of Harpha Tarkaan. The name Emeth in Hebrew means truth.
