Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of my favorite shows of all time is "Survivor", hosted by Jeff Probst. Almost every season of "Survivor" lasts for how many days?

Answer: 39

"Survivor" typically lasts for 39 days with the final tribal council and jury vote occurring on the final day. One castaway is voted off roughly every three days. Castaways compete for immunity either in tribal or individual form before each vote. The winner is the person who earns the most jury votes at the final tribal council.

Almost every season of "Survivor" lasts for 39 days. The exceptions are "Australian Outback" which lasted for 42 and "Blood vs. Water" and "San Juan Del Sur" which lasted for 39.5 days.
2. My favorite movie as a child (and admittedly as an adult) was a Disney classic with characters named Pongo, Perdita and Roger. The title of this movie has a number in it. What number is it?

Answer: 101

The film is "101 Dalmatians" featuring the Dalmatians Pongo and Perdita as they try to rescue their puppies and dozens of others from Cruella de Vil. Cruella intends to kill the puppies and turn them into fur coats. The basis for the film was the children's novel of the same name by Dodie Smith.
3. One of my favorite countries on Earth is scenic Iceland. Iceland is nicknamed the Land of Fire and Ice because of its volcanoes and glaciers. It is also home to the oldest surviving parliament in the world: the Althing. How many seats are in the Althing?

Answer: 63

The Althing or Althingi is the unicameral house of Parliament for Iceland. It meets in Reykjavik. The 63 members are elected proportionally. The Althing was founded in 930 in the Thingvellir Fields outside Reykjavik. It met there until an 1800 decree from the King of Denmark which disbanded the Althing. It met again in 1844 and has continued since.
4. I'm a lover of video games and the very first system I had allowed me to play such classic games as "Paper Mario", "Mario Party 3" and "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". It was called the Nintendo what number?

Answer: 64

The Nintendo 64 (commonly called N64) was so named because of its 64-bit CPU which allowed for better graphic quality (at the time). It debuted in 1996 and was an instant best seller. Many of the games for the N64 contained the number 64 in its title such as "Super Mario 64". The N64 is considered one of the classic and most iconic video gaming systems in history.
5. My absolute favorite television series is "The Simpsons". On the show, the Simpsons live at 7__ Evergreen Terrace. What numbers fill in the blanks?

Answer: 42

The Simpsons live at 742 Evergreen Terrace next to the Flanderses. The patriarch Homer is a dimwitted but loving father and employee at the local nuclear power plant. Marge is a devoted housewife who sometimes gets frustrated with Homer's shenanigans and also sometimes develops a sense of adventure. Bart is a rambunctious ten-year old boy who often finds himself in trouble. Lisa is the Brainiac eight-year old daughter who plays the saxophone. Maggie is the baby and has the intelligence of Lisa but the mischievousness of Bart.
6. I was born on a certain day in July and share my birthday with such famous people as Tom Hanks, Barbara Cartland and Elias Howe. It is also the same date that Zachary Taylor, Isabel Sanford and Rod Steiger died. What day in July is this?

Answer: 9

Academy Award winning actor Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956. Romance writer Barbara Cartland and inventor Elias Howe were also born on July 9 in 1901 and 1819, respectively.

It was on this date in 1850 that U.S. President Zachary Taylor died in office under somewhat mysterious and unsolved circumstances. He was 65. In 2004 "The Jeffersons" actress Isabel Sanford passed away at 86. On July 9, 2002, actor Rod Steiger died of pneumonia at the age of 77.
7. My favorite song is "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)". It was written and performed by Rupert Holmes on his album "Partners in Crime". In what year did the song debut? (19__)

Answer: 79

"Escape (The Pina Colada Song) was released in 1979. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Charts and was number one when the 1970s ended.

The basic plot of the song is about a man who is bored with his current lover and reads an ad by a woman also looking for a new lover. She has a very long list of things her man must like and enjoy (such as pina coladas). When the singer responds and meets her, she turns out to be the his current partner.
8. My favorite author is Agatha Christie. If you added the number of "Problems" solved by Miss Marple in a short story collection, the number of "Indians" on Indian Island, the number of "Little Pigs" Poirot considers suspects and the number of "Dials" in a Superintendent Battle case, you will wind up with what sum?

Answer: 35

"The Thirteen Problems" is a short story collection featuring Miss Marple and her friends as they each tell a different mystery they came across in their lives. "Ten Little Indians" is an alternate name for "And Then There Were None". In that story, ten people who have allegedly gotten away with murder are brought to a secluded island and slaughtered one by one in accordance to a nursery rhyme. "Five Little Pigs" is a novel starring Poirot in which he solves the murder of an artist who died fifteen years prior using only written accounts of the crime from each of the suspects. "The Seven Dials Mystery" is an espionage-type adventure starring Superintendent Battle and Bundle Brent involving a secret society called the Seven Dials.

13 + 10 + 5 +7 = 35.
9. I was born in New Jersey, the Garden State. As what number state did New Jersey enter the Union?

Answer: 3

New Jersey became the third state to ratify the U.S. Constitution on December 18, 1787. It was preceded by Delaware and Pennsylvania. Historically speaking, New Jersey is heavily diverse because many immigrants who came in from Ellis Island settled in New Jersey where it was easier for them to find unskilled work in factories in the big cities. New Jersey tends to be the butt of jokes and is culturally stereotyped because of reality shows like "Jersey Shore" and "The Real Housewives of New Jersey".
10. I love reading about history and developing my own theories about history's unsolved mysteries. One of my favorite topics to speculate about is the death of Pope John Paul I who died mysteriously at what age?

Answer: 65

Pope John Paul I was born Albino Luciani. Upon the death of Pope Paul VI, Luciani was chosen as to be his successor. He took the name John Paul I after the two men who were Pope before him. John Paul I reigned for only 33 days before he died mysteriously in his bed at the age of 65.

A number of conspiracy theories emerged including his death being due to assassination by Freemasons and those about to be charged for corruption at the Vatican Bank.
