I'm told a ten gallon hat can hold about three quarters of a gallon. The hat gets its name from the Spanish word galo`n, meaning braid. The hat is so big that it could possibly have room for 10 braids around its brim.
4. The "black box recorder" in an aircraft is what colour?

Answer: orange

They are painted bright orange (with reflective strips added) to make them highly visible and therefore easier to locate after a crash. The "black box" term related to their mysterious function when they were first introduced.

Answer: False

The word scotch in butterscotch comes from the Latin cocca meaning a nick or score. This meant that it was marked into segments making it easier to break.

Answer: sheep

It is also occasionally obtained from cows, horses or donkeys, NEVER cats. Apparently it gets its name from "kitgut", kit being an old term for a violin.

Answer: red

The term blue is Aussie slang for a fight. Traditionally red haired people are quick to anger, a trait experience has taught me to believe is accurate.
8. English explorer Captain James Cook's cottage can be found in which country?

Answer: Australia

"Captain Cook's cottage" can be found in Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne. It was moved there from Yorkshire in 1934. Although it was owned by his parents and he did visit there, it is unconfirmed that he actually lived there.
9. Banana oil is a substance commonly used in the manufacture of cosmetics. From what does banana oil come?

Answer: isopentyl alcohol

Banana oil is a solvent, and has quite a pleasant odour. Apparently of bananas. It is made from acetic acid and isopentyl alcohol, with a little bit of sulphuric acid.
10. If you are eating Bombay Duck you are eating a ___________

Answer: fish

Bummalo fish to be exact, a type of fish abundant in the Ganges Delta. Apparently when it was being sun dried it smelled as bad as the crowded Bombay Mail train. The Hindi word for mail is "dak". hence, Bombay dak, becoming Bombay duck.
