Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We begin our journey in the Berkshires, located in the western portion of the state. While exploring the region, we discover the highest point in the state of Massachusetts. What is its name?

Answer: Mount Greylock

At 3,491 feet above sea level, Mount Greylock is the highest point in the state of Massachusetts. It is visible from places such as Adams and North Adams.
2. Interstate 90 begins in Boston and heads west until it ends in Seattle, Washington. In Massachusetts, what is it called?

Answer: Massachusetts Turnpike

Interstate 90 is the longest interstate in the United States of America, with a span of over 3,000 miles. It enters Massachusetts from New York in West Stockbridge and eventually ends in Boston. (Information provided by fun-facts.com)
3. We are now passing through a city that is just north of a Six Flags Park. What city are we in?

Answer: Springfield

The Connecticut River runs right through Springfield. It flows from a lake in northern New Hampshire right into the Long Island Sound.
4. Next, we are south of the geographical center of Massachusetts. What town is the center located in?

Answer: Rutland

When standing here, you are neither closer to the northern border of the state than the southern border, nor the Atlantic Ocean to the western border.
5. We are now in a town that is famous for the first shots of the Revolutionary War. There are two, actually; which one of them is listed here?

Answer: Concord

Don't confuse this town with another Concord: Concord, the capital of New Hampshire! The other famous town is Lexington, which is not too far away.
6. We have reached Boston, the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Which of these famous sport teams has not called Boston home?

Answer: Islanders

I am not a huge sports fan, so this was a pretty easy question in my opinion. The New York Islanders are (strangely enough!) New York's NHL team. Boston's NHL team are the Bruins.
7. After traveling to a destination a little bit to the south, we come to Plymouth, a place famous for a Pilgrim settlement in the 17th century. Was this the first place in North America that the pilgrims landed?

Answer: No

Before the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth, they stopped in Provincetown. If you ever get the chance to visit Provincetown, be sure to climb the Pilgrim Tower!
8. We continue to travel south, to a cape that is technically an island due to this waterway. Name it.

Answer: Cape Cod Canal

The Cape Cod Canal connects Cape Cod Bay to Buzzards Bay. While it separates Cape Cod from mainland Massachusetts, both sides of the canal are part of Barnstable County.
9. We decide to take a ferry from Cape Cod a little bit to the south to Martha's Vineyard. The island, as well as the Elizabeth Islands, is part of what county?

Answer: Dukes County

Nantucket County is to the east, made up of the island of Nantucket. Barnstable County is all of Cape Cod as well as a little bit of land on the other side of the Cape Cod Canal. Vineyard County doesn't exist.
10. After this very tiring journey, we decide to finish our trip by relaxing in a town on the "wrist" of Cape Cod. Some of the beaches in which town include Head of the Meadow Beach, Bristol Beach, and Corn Hill Beach (my favorite!)?

Answer: Truro

All of the incorrect answers are towns near Truro. Provincetown is to the north and Wellfleet and Orleans are to the south.
