K2 is situated in the area also known as Kashmir, on the border between Pakistan and China. As both India and Pakistan have claimed the area of Kashmir as theirs, India also claims K2 to be in its territory.
2. In which mountain range is K2?

Answer: Karakoram

K2 is in the Karakoram mountain range, part of the great range of the Himalayas. K2 gets it's K prefix from Karakoram, and the 2 as it was the second mountain to be identified in that range when it was surveyed in 1856.

Answer: Mount Godwin-Austen

The mountain was first surveyed by a European survey team in 1856 and was named after the leader of the expedition, Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen.
