Answer: Antietam

The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day of the Civil War. Based on the Union victory, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
3. This Georgia battlefield is the oldest national military park in the U.S.

Answer: Chickamauga

Chickamauga is the largest Civil War battlefield park covering 5,600 acres. it was established in 1890. General George Thomas of the Union earned his nickname "The Rock of Chickamauga" here. Union commander Maj. Gen. William Rosecrans was removed from command after the Confederate victory here.

Answer: Fredericksburg

This battle was a lopsided Confederate victory. The Army of the Potomac under General Ambrose Burnside launched a succession of frontal assaults at well entrenched Confederate lines suffering over 12,000 casualties.

Nathan Bedford Forrest commanded the Confederate forces attacking Fort Pillow.

This victory in the West by Union Maj. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis resulted in 4,600 casualties and the loss of two Generals for the Confederates compared with 1,300 casualties for the Union.

Answer: Sailor's or Sayler's Creek

This relatively unknown Battle was fought on April 6, 1865 and decimated the Army of Northern Virginia with approximately 25% of Robert E. Lee's Army being cut off and killed or captured. Robert E. Lee would surrender at Appomattox three days later.
