In 1968 Suharto formally replaced Sukarno as president.

Answer: Pakistan

Pakistan's army overthrew the government of Nawar Sharif 1999 after Sharif tried to sack Gen.Musharraf from the top military job. Musharraf declared a state of emergency and assumed all power.

Answer: Afghanistan

Monarchy was overthrown in coup by Daud Khan, who himself was assassinated in coup 1978.

Answer: Iraq

A coup by the Baath party brought al-Bakr to power 1968. He was replaced by Saddam Hussein 1979.

After coup and civil war, revolutionary council took over the government in South Yemen 1986. The autocratic head of state Ali Nasser was dismissed. A new administration was formed under the more moderate Haydar Abu Bakr al-Attas.

Military coup by Gen.Ershad 1982. He became president 1983 and announced his resignation 1990.

Thailand became a puppet ally of Japan under Field Marshal Phibun Songkhram 1941. Phibun regained power in military coup 1947, but he was ousted in another coup 1957. Military dictatorship continued under Gen. Sarit Thanarat (1957-63) and Gen. Thanom Kittikachorn (1963-73).

Gen. Ne Win reassumed power after military coup 1962. He had administrated an emergency goverment 1960-62.
