2. The Egyptian government has stated that the gold funerary mask found in the young king's tomb will never again leave Egypt. Why is this?

Answer: It has become too fragile to withstand travel

The beautiful gold funerary mask found over Tutankhamun's face in the tomb was a main feature of the traveling exhibits of the treasures of Tutankhamun. In January of 2015, the beard of the mask was knocked off by a worker attempting to adjust the lighting in the mask's display case. It was hastily glued back on with epoxy, causing an outcry in the archeological community. If you want to see the mask, you'll have to go to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

3. What does the name Tutankhamun mean?

Answer: Living image of Amun

Amun was an Egyptian deity and patron of Thebes, home of Tutankhamun.
Akenaten was Tutankhamun's father.

4. DNA tests have proved that Tutankhamun's parents were brother and sister.

Answer: True

Keeping royal blood pure was considered to be of very high importance, so it wasn't uncommon for Pharaohs to be married to their mothers, fathers, brothers or sisters. DNA tests done in 2010 have shown that Tutankhamun's parents, Akhenaten and a woman known only as "The Younger Lady" were, in fact, brother and sister. It's likely that Tutankhamun's wife, Ankhesenamun, was also his half-sister.

5. The Thutmosid royal line, to which Tutankhamun belonged, had a very visible physical characteristic. What was it?

Answer: Overbite

Mummies identified as belonging to the Thutmosid line (descended from Thutmose) generally have pronounced overbites. Tutankhamun was the last of the Thutmosids.

6. During which Egyptian dynasty did Tutankhamun rule as pharaoh?

Answer: Eighteenth dynasty

Other famous pharaohs of Dynasty XVIII include Hatshepsut (c. 1479 BC-1458 BC), longest-reigning woman-pharaoh, and Akhenaten (c. 1353-1336 BC), the "heretic pharaoh", with his queen, Nefertiti.

7. Tutankhamun had a medical condition called Club Foot.

Answer: True

Club Foot is a bone deformity which causes the feet to become bent and twisted. It's likely that, because of this condition, Tutankhamun had a lot of trouble getting around and may have had to use a walking stick.

9. Tutankhamun's tomb was considered what for his status as Pharaoh?

Answer: less than impressive

His young life and perhaps unexpected, early death did not leave time for a grand tomb. It's thought that the tomb may have been meant for someone else.

10. Tutankhamun had a different birth name. What was his name at birth?

Answer: Tutankhaten

His original name was Tutankhaten. In translation means 'living image of Aten'.
Most likely he changed it due to his father wanting the god Aten to be the most important deity. This had caused unrest in Egypt during his father's reign.

11. Which of the following is a theory as to how Tutankhamun died?

Answer: all of them

Tutankhamun is believed to have been around the age of nineteen when he died and there's considerable debate as to what caused his death.

One of the most popular theories is that he was murdered by a blow to the head. This theory appeared to be backed up by the discovery of bone fragments inside the skull. However, research has now shown that the bone fragments were not created by a blow to the head as they are not embedded in the embalming material.

A fracture just above the left knee led to the theory that Tutankhamun died in a chariot accident. Chariots were used in battle and for hunting, but there was nothing to prevent the rider from falling out. However, since Tutankhamun had a severe deformity in his left foot, it's unlikely he would have been able to use a chariot. Egyptologists are now leaning towards a new theory: epilepsy. They believe Tutankhamun may have suffered a violent epileptic seizure, causing him to fall and break his leg. The fracture became infected, which lead to death.

12. Besides all the treasures and things the Pharaoh would need in the Afterlife, what else was found in the tomb?

Answer: two stillborn babies

Buried alongside Tutankhamun were the mummified bodies of his two stillborn daughters.

13. Why did it take so long for Tutankhamun's tomb to be discovered?

Answer: it was under the tomb of another Pharaoh

Tutankhamun's tomb was under the tomb of another Pharaoh, Ramesses VI. In fact, the creation of this tomb actually protected Tutankhamun's tomb from grave robbers.

14. Is there any proof that Tutankhamun's tomb was cursed?

Answer: no

According to a number of stories, Howard Carter removed a plaque from above the tomb door, inscribed with the words 'Death will slay with its wings whoever disturbs the peace of the Pharaoh'. Rumours of the tomb being cursed began to spread when Lord Carnarvon, the wealthy Briton who had financed the expedition leading to the discovery of the tomb, died from an infected mosquito bite. A number of other people connected with the discovery of the tomb, also died.

The walls in the tombs of the Pharaohs were often decorated with beautiful paintings. However, because Tutankhamun died young, the paintings in his tomb hadn't had enough time to dry before he was buried and the tomb was sealed. This caused mould to grow and when the tomb was opened 3000 years later, those who entered inhaled the mould spores. This may have been what caused some of the early deaths.

15. Where are Tutankhamun's mummified remains?

Answer: still inside his tomb

Tutankhamun's mummified body still lies where it belongs, in his tomb in the Valley of the Kings.
