Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What crime was Conor McBride falsely accused of helping his brother commit?

Answer: Perpetrating a grant fraud

Conor's brother Thomas submitted a fraudulent grant application to the European Union. When the authorities came to arrest him, Thomas had fled the country, and since Conor had signed the forms (innocently) the Irish authorities arrested him instead.
2. During a simulated operation at Fort Monckton, what causes Conor to fail the exercise?

Answer: He refuses to fire at a possibly innocent villager

The exercise called for Conor to protect himself from an enemy agent assigned to kill him, but the woman he suspected was carrying a bundle that looked like a baby. Rather than risk harm to a child, he tried to run instead, and was therefore "shot" by his weapons instructor, who informed him the woman's bundle had only contained the gun meant to kill him.
3. What becomes Conor's favorite street food in Mumbai?

Answer: Bhel puri

The Mumbai salad consisting of puffed rice, potato, fruit, dry noodles and various spices quickly becomes a favorite of Conor's. He gets them in all varieties from the stalls on Chowpatty Beach.
4. Conor befriends a young Indian girl forced to dance at a bar in the red light district. What is her name?

Answer: Radha

Radha is a 13-year-old girl who has been "trafficked" - sold to an unscrupulous dance bar owner and forced to dance for his male patrons.
5. Who are Sedgwick's American colleagues impersonating when Conor meets them?

Answer: Crimean mobsters

Greg Walker and Tony Costino meet Sedgwick and Conor at the Bombay Gymkhana. They've informed Sedgwick they will be posing as Crimean mobsters, but Conor easily sees through their half-hearted impersonation.
6. Thomas brings Conor to an Irish pub in Mumbai. How does Conor discover his brother's connection to it?

Answer: He sees a photograph of their family farm on the pub's wall

Conor is amazed by the authenticity of Durgan's Irish pub and wonders how Thomas discovered it, but when he sees a photograph of Ventry Harbor on the wall, with a particular angle that is only visible from the McBride family's upper pasture, he realizes Thomas is operating the pub himself.
7. When Sedgwick puts all the pieces together during the train ride to Rishikesh, Conor discovers his brother has been playing a role far more complicated than he realized. What is it?

Answer: He's helping the DEA capture a Russian arms dealer

Sedgwick reached out to Thomas to help the DEA capture Vasily Dragonov, a notorious arms and drug dealer by having him pose as a buyer acting on behalf of a Mumbai gangster who wants to provide automatic weapons to Hindu militants in Kashmir.
8. What does Conor give to the boy he meets on the path in Gulmarg?

Answer: His scarf

On the way to their meeting with Vasily Dragonov, Conor encounters a small boy on the Gulmarg mountain path who is tending a Hindu shrine. The boy offers him marigolds and in return, Conor gives him some rupees and, then seeing how cold the boy is, wraps him up in the white scarf he'd been wearing.
9. What happens to the twenty million dollars that the DEA planned to transfer into the Russian arms dealer's account?

Answer: Thomas wires it to a bank in South America

Afraid that something will go wrong with the sting operation, and that he and Conor will be blamed by the DEA for losing the money, Thomas creates a second account under the name of Vasily Dragonov at a South American bank. Only he and Conor know the password, so they can wire the money back to the DEA when the operation is over.
10. Where is Conor headed at the end of the book?

Answer: To look for work at a farmhouse inn in the U.S.

Conor's farm manager Phillip Ryan has agreed to contact his cousin's widow - a woman who is operating an inn in a remote corner of Vermont. She is trying to keep a dairy farm running as well and Conor hopes she will take him on as a farm manager.
