Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is the town of Glen Echo?

Answer: Maryland

Glen Echo, Maryland is under a bit of a microscope. While towns like Crystal Lake, Springwood, and Haddonfield have gotten reputations as dangerous locations due to the illustrious careers of killers like Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers, Glen Echo is set to be the stomping ground of a yet-to-be-revealed killer. Twenty years ago, a young boy, possessed by evil, killed his family before being cast off a waterfall by local townspeople, and now he's set to stake his territory as the local killer of Glen Echo.

And that's why there's a documentary crew following his story.
2. Leslie has a small library in his house consisting partly of which types of books?

Answer: Magician technique manuals

The interview begins with a trip to Leslie Vernon's current household where, in his spare time, he reads up on escape tactics and anatomy textbooks to get suitable groundwork for his killings and knowhow. When the formal interview commences, he balks at the idea of simply stating his motives and insists that his documentary crew come along to his old house. Every year, he tells them, teenagers head to his old farmhouse and do dares on the anniversary of his death.

This year, he's going to make a reappearance and cement his place in horror legend.
3. Which of these exists on the Vernon property?

Answer: Apple orchard

Leslie Vernon's property serves many purposes. First and foremost, it's an anchor for his legend. The house backs onto an apple orchard which, over the years, has grown labyrinthine; the story goes that if you walk there on the night of the harvest moon and till the soil, the dirt will come up wet with blood. You can still hear Mrs. Vernon swinging in the trees if you listen close enough. The next stage of the whole thing is to find a target group of victims, which Leslie finds difficult. There has to be one survivor girl, a virgin, but there needs to be a supporting cast as well, to pad the numbers.

His survivor girl is a diner worker named Kelly, who Leslie's been stalking for months from the shadows behind the dumpster of the restaurant.

There's a point to it all; she needs to be a bit paranoid that there's trouble coming.
4. Doc Halloran, as Leslie states, is what type of horror archetype?

Answer: An Ahab

After a quick visit with Leslie's friends Eugene and Jamie, the former of whom was a horror killer in the late 1960s, the film crew is given more insight, especially into the early steps of the process. At a point, the crew becomes somewhat complicit in the pre-game, just to get more intriguing footage. Leslie ends up planting a phony newspaper article at the library, where Kelly spends her spare time, in order to lure her into the horrific tale about to unfold.

The crew watches as it all starts to happen-- Kelly checks the newspaper and she and the librarian look into the microfiche.

When Leslie finally appears, he's foiled, as per the plan, by a man named Doc Halloran. Leslie couldn't be more thrilled-- Halloran is his 'Ahab', and an Ahab is a great thing.

It's someone who will stop at nothing to stop Leslie and no personal gain. It legitimizes him to a great extent.
5. What is Halloran's profession?

Answer: Psychiatrist

Taylor and Todd, of the film crew, decide to go to the diner where Kelly works to talk to her, concerned with her safety, and they end up chatting with Doc Halloran as well (since he's watching out for her). Halloran warns the crew that Leslie is not who he says he is; his real name is Leslie Mancuso and he's from Reno, Nevada, and it's clear he's starting something upsetting.

When Taylor confronts Leslie with the truth, he warns the crew to stop ruining his life's work and confirms that Halloran isn't lying.

In fact, Halloran was his shrink in Reno. The film crew, now unsure of how to proceed since Leslie's backstory is a lie, decides to stick with their project and see it through despite the obvious concerns.
6. What is Leslie's Rule #1?

Answer: Nobody gets away

As the fateful night gets closer, Leslie gives a tour of his stomping grounds, the Vernon family house, and goes over some interesting tactics and hiding places. For instance, keeping people out of the house as much as possible mitigates people getting lost inside.

He also insists that nobody gets away; it's the most important rule because it breaks the whole thing down and leaves a mess to clean up. Leslie says he'll attack the first victims in the bedroom, likely during a moment of passion, and he'll pose the bodies as though they're sleeping.

The lights will be cut, and someone will head to the basement with their girlfriend to turn the lights back on. It's sadistic, according to Taylor, but it's genius.
7. Which of these does Leslie add to his make-up?

Answer: Flame-retardant gel

Ideally, the situation will play out for Leslie like clockwork. Kelly will find bodies in the toolshed outside and arm herself with a weapon (rigged). The others will panic and try to escape, but Leslie's timing will be perfect and he'll winnow the victims down, taking care of Halloran in the process.

In the end, Kelly will head into the orchard and claim her role as survivor girl, satisfying the whole scheme. The time gets nearer and Leslie prepares himself with makeup and flame-retardant gel. Taylor believes that Leslie loves Kelly, but there's a bit of a paradox in everything since he also needs to kill her. Soon, eight kids show up to the house and two of them go to the bedroom. Leslie murders them, as planned, but Taylor and her crew get apprehensive about the whole thing. Leslie has no choice but to send them away.
8. Is Kelly the virginal survivor girl that Leslie requires for his destiny?

Answer: No

Taylor tries to convince Leslie to stop what he's doing, but he won't stop but fulfill the destiny he's set out for himself. He wants to be the killer and he was born to do it. They say their goodbyes and Leslie returns to his work, turning out the lights and going into the basement. That's when Taylor puts away the cameras and ends the documentary. Since they know Leslie's plan, they can warn the others and stop him.

The guys worry that Leslie may come after them, but they all decide to give Kelly a warning to give her the upper hand. ...and when they do, they find Kelly having sex in a bedroom.

She's not the virgin that Leslie expected her to be. The plan starts going off the rails from there. When the crew tries to show the kids the bodies in the bedroom, there's no one there.

The crew effectively becomes part of the story.
9. Does Leslie kill any part of the documentary film crew?

Answer: Yes

Leslie's plan ends up unraveling just a bit due to the new inclusions into the story, but he makes several changes to accommodate, dispatching high schoolers nevertheless. The crew tries to use what they know of the plan and Leslie's mindset to stay a step ahead, but it doesn't work too well.

When the crew tries to protect Kelly and explain the situation to her, it doesn't really help, especially since Kelly isn't a virgin. In fact, it just means he'll kill them all and leave no witnesses. Kelly ends up dying immediately after when she falls out a second-storey window. The group runs to the barn, as per the plan, but the crew's cameraman, Todd, tries to get Leslie to break his rule and distracts him long enough to let the others figure out the truth. Kelly was never the virgin survivor girl; it was always Taylor. Leslie's plan was to get the crew involved so that she could fulfill his destiny.
10. How many people survive Leslie's murder spree?

Answer: Three

The situation continues to escalate when Taylor's sound guy, Doug, and Doc Halloran provide enough of a distraction to let Taylor escape, grab an axe, and head into the apple orchard. Inside, she races to the cider mill that Leslie showed her, and while the implication is that the cider press inside be used (and it is!), she also douses the whole shed in gasoline before lighting it ablaze to end things once and for all.
Taylor ends up escaping, but so do Doc Halloran and Doug, both of whom weren't killed in the barn. They watch the mill burn to the ground.

Leslie survives though. Since he put the flame-retardant gel into his make-up, he lives through the fire. He awakens on a slab in the coroner's office.
