After hearing that the story his grandfather is about to tell him contains "fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love and miracles", his Grandson declares that it "doesn't sound too bad and he'll try to stay awake." His Grandpa then thanks him for the vote of confidence.

Peter Falk plays the grandfather/narrator of the story and the grandson is played by Fred Savage.

When Princess Buttercup is out riding her horse, she runs into Vizzini, Fezzik and Inigo pretending to be lost circus performers. They enquire as to whether there's a village nearby.

Buttercup is played by Robin Wright, Vizzini by Wallace Shawn, Fezzik by André the Giant and Inigo by Mandy Patinkin. André the Giant was a French professional wrestler who was 7ft 4 inches tall!

In this scene, upon hearing that Vizzini intends to kill Buttercup, Fezzik voices his opinions. Vizzini then has a rant at both Fezzik and Inigo. Prince Humperdinck does indeed plan to kill Buttercup, but not until later on in the film.

During the filming, because of his back problems, André the Giant couldn't actually lift anything heavy, so in scenes where it appears he his carrying great loads, they are actually attached to wires!

Yellin is the commander of Prince Humperdinck's troops and is played by Malcolm Storry.

When they have scaled the Cliffs of Insanity, Vizzini and Fezzik leave with Buttercup and leave Inigo behind to defeat the Dread Pirate Roberts, who is slowly climbing them without the rope for assistance. Inigo says that he is going to duel him with his left-hand because if he uses his right hand it will "be over too quickly".

They mention several fencing masters during the duelling scene who were, in fact, all real fencing masters from the 14th - 16th centuries.

Answer: Fezzik

After Westley (still as the Dread Pirate Roberts) defeats Inigo it is Fezzik's turn to try and beat him. Vizzini tells him to finish the pirate "his way" by "picking up one of those rocks, hiding behind that boulder and the minute the man in black's head is in view, hit it with the rock!"

Answer: Count Rugen

Prince Humperdinck, Count Rugen and his soldiers come across the ruins where Westley and Inigo had their duel. After seeing that Buttercup, Vizzini and Fezzik went in one direction, followed by Westley, and Inigo went another Count Rugen ponders over whether or not it could be a trap.

Humperdinck was played by Chris Sarandon and Count Rugen by Christopher Guest (who doesn't have six fingers on his right hand!)

Answer: Dread Pirate Roberts

After winning the battle of wits against Vizzini, Westley, still wearing his mask and unknown as Westley, runs away with Buttercup. They have a heated argument before she pushes him down a hill and he shouts "As you wish!" revealing his true identity.

There actually was a Dread Pirate Roberts during the 18th century! Bartholomew Roberts or Black Bart operated in the Caribbean during the early 18th century and is considered by many to have been the most successful pirate of all time!

Answer: The Albino

Upon exiting the fire swamp, Westley and Buttercup are confronted by Prince Humperdinck, Count Rugen and his soldiers. Buttercup gives herself up in exchange for Westley's freedom, which Humperdinck agrees to, but instead of freeing him, he sends him to the pit of despair. The Albino cleans him up and tells him of Count Rugen's plans for him with The Machine.

Answer: Miracle Max

When Westley gets 50 years sucked out of him by Prince Humperdinck he appears to be as good as dead. Inigo and Fezzik pool together their money and go to visit Miracle Max to see if he can do anything for Westley, but he isn't exactly up for it at first - having been fired by Prince Humperdinck recently his confidence is understandably shot.

Miracle Max is played by Billy Crystal, who is apparently so hilarious to the director, Rob Reiner, that he had to leave set when he was filming his scenes to avoid laughing so hard he became nauseated.

Answer: Inigo

Ah, the happy ending! Westley has outwitted Prince Humperdinck and saved his beloved Buttercup. While pondering over where Fezzik has gone they hear him shouting from outside. He has found four white horses for them to ride away into the night on.
