quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what city did the movie begin?

Answer: Beirut, Lebanon

The film opens with a classified meeting of some of the more notorious figures of the late 20th Century: Idi Amin, Yasser Arafat, Mohmar Khaddafi, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Ayotollah Khomeini, Fidel Castro, and one Mr. Papshmir, whom we will discuss later.

The purpose of the meeting was to formulate a terrorist plot against America so despicable, no one would look at the USA the same ever again. But, our hero Frank Drebin, disguised as a teaserver, is there to break up the meeting!
2. The title sequences in the "Naked Gun" movies are some of the funniest bits ever put to film! In each film, you travel on top of a police car (with its light flashing) through the most incongruous locations imaginable: a women's locker room, a rollercoaster, someone's home, and more! Where did the police car stop at the end of the title sequence of this movie?

Answer: A donut shop

It was a Winchell's, to be exact!
3. As Officer Nordberg (O.J. Simpson) tries to raid a drug deal on the I Luv You, he is met with superior numbers. After the men on the boat shoot him, what was the first miscellaneous injury Nordberg also suffers?

Answer: His head hit a pipe

The order of injuries is as follows: pipe, stove, window, trap. And let's not forget about the wet paint on the door and the faceplant into the wedding cake! He then stumbled out the door and fell into the harbor.
4. After Lt. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) returns from overseas, he learns that his girlfriend had left him for another man and married him. What was her name?

Answer: Victoria

As Frank and Ed drive down the highway, Frank says "I trusted her...Followed my heart foolishly, it seems. Just gonna have to learn to forget. That's why I took my vacation in Beirut: To get her out of my mind, to find some peace. It's not gonna be easy. Everywhere I look, something reminds me of her."
Then, we cut to a shot of the San Onofre Nulcear Power Plant, which resembles a woman's, um, assets! The San Onofre Plant is located on the Pacific Coast, between San Clemente and San Diego, California.
5. When Frank and Capt. Ed Hocken (George Kennedy) go to the hospital to visit Nordberg, his wife is already in the room. What is Nordberg's wife's name?

Answer: Wilma

Wilma Nordberg, played by Susan Beaubian, appears only in this film. When we first meet her, she is obviously distraught about her husband's injuries, to the point that when she cries on Frank's shoulder, she leaves behind a trail of mucus a foot long!
6. The plot of this film centers around the visit of what dignitary to Los Angeles?

Answer: The Queen of England

During a press conference at City Hall, Mayor Barkley (Nancy Marchand) discloses that Queen Elizabeth II will visit three cities in the United States; one of these cities is Los Angeles.
7. When Frank visits Vincent Ludwig (Ricardo Montalban) at his office, he meets Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley) for the first time. After saying "Hello," what does she do?

Answer: Falls down a flight of stairs

Frank was at Ludwig's office to check his employee and shipping records, because Nordberg's attack occured at Ludwig's pier. When Ludwig sends for his assistant, the radiant Jane appears (and then promptly falls down a flight of stairs).
Later, as Frank and Jane enter the Records Room, she climbs up a ladder, and Frank says "Nice beaver!" Jane's reply: "Thank you. I just had it stuffed." She then hands him a stuffed beaver!
8. When Mr. Papshmir (Raye Birk) visits Ludwig's office, Ludwig says he can complete the task Papshmir had mentioned to him. What was Ludwig's price for the job?

Answer: $20 million

Papshmir says that money is no problem. But he does go on to say that those he represents (Idi Amin, the Ayatollah Khomeini, etc.) were concerned with security and logistics issues connected to the task (which is the planned assassination of the Queen).
9. The proposed method of assassination upon the visiting dignitary is similar to that found in what classic thriller?

Answer: The Manchurian Candidate

"The Manchurian Candidate" (1962), starring Frank Sinatra and Angela Lansbury (No, it is NOT a musical!), is a classic thriller about members of a platoon from the Korean War who had been brainwashed into becoming assassins, but they have no recollection of whom they killed.

In 2004, a remake of this film was released, starring Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep. In "The Naked Gun", Ludwig gave Papshmir a demonstration of how the Queen would be killed by calling in his secretary, Dominique (played by David and Jerry Zucker's mother, Charlotte), and asking her to make some tea for them.

At that moment, he pressed a button, activating an alarm in her watch. She then turned around, pulled an unloaded gun out of Ludwig's desk, and "shot" Papshmir repeatedly.

When Ludwig pressed the button again, she dropped the gun to the floor and returned to normal.
10. As Frank foils an attempt upon Nordberg's life at the hospital, he chases the suspect outside. When the suspect steals a car, Frank commandeers one for himself, but it is a driving school car! What was the name of the driving school posted on the car?

Answer: Teen Driving School

The late John Houseman (in his final film appearance) was brilliant in his cameo as the driving instructor!
11. What was it that killed the person who had attempted to murder Nordberg at the hospital?

Answer: Collision with a fireworks factory

Well, leave it to the ZAZ Team to have the good doctor slam through a gas truck and the missile, and still survive! What finally did him in was riding the missile into the fireworks factory. The resulting explosion, of course, attracted a large crowd, to whom Frank said "Nothing to see here! Please disperse!"
12. How many questions did Frank ask himself as he walked through town?

Answer: eight

Frank (narrating): "The attempt on Nordberg's life left me shaken and disturbed, and all the questions kept coming up over and over again, like bubbles in a case of club soda. Who was this character in the hospital? And why was he trying to kill Nordberg? And for whom? Did Ludwig lie to me? I didn't have any proof, but, somehow, I didn't entirely trust him, either. Why was the I Luv You not listed in Ludwig's records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn't, who did? And where the hell was I?"
13. When Frank gets home after his walk, he finds Jane in his apartment. What is she doing?

Answer: Making dinner

Frank finds her in the kitchen, boiling a roast and wearing one of his shirts (and little else).
14. Frank and Jane hit it off right away, and we see their romantic adventures together in a hilarious montage set to a classic pop song. What was the name of the song?

Answer: "I'm Into Something Good", by Herman's Hermits

Herman's Hermits were a band that was part of the British Invasion of the 1960s. By the way, did you catch the MTV-style "video credit" at the end of the montage?
15. When Frank sneaks into Ludwig's office, the first thing he checks is Ludwig's desk. What does he find there?

Answer: A Bingo card

Frank opens each desk drawer, one at a time. When he gets to the last drawer, he says "Bingo!" and holds up the Bingo card! How Leslie Nielsen did these films with a straight face is beyond me!
16. What happened to Ludwig's office?

Answer: It caught fire

When Frank finds a note that contains crucial evidence (Specifically, a written statement that guarantees payment to Ludwig upon proof of the Queen's death), he tried to read it, but it was too dark. So, he used a lighter to read it, but ended up burning the note and, consequently, the office!
17. As Frank rummages through his refrigerator, he finds a lot of old food. Then, Jane drops by and finds a package of Chinese food in the fridge. Where from?

Answer: Wong-Wu's

Jane pulls out the Chinese food carton from Wong-Wu's and comments that they had closed three years before. Then, Frank opens the carton, smells its contents, and collapses on the floor!
By the way, did you notice the moving steak at the end of the scene? It happens as Jane is leaving and Frank asks "Are you sure you won't have something to eat?" Based on the re-animated steak, my answer would be "no."
18. What happens to the hitman at the stock yard?

Answer: He falls into a vat

When Frank goes to the stock yard (apparently to meet with Ludwig), he is greeted by a thug who tries to shoot him. After some gunplay, the hitman discovers his gun is empty, allowing Frank to move in for the arrest. But the hitman tries to punch him out instead, and he falls into the vat.
19. What did not happen at the reception for the visiting dignitary?

Answer: Ludwig tried to shoot the dignitary

Yes, Ludwig did have a firearm, but it was a Revolutionary War musket, to be presented to the Queen as a gift. But Frank, who was stunned by the bugle fanfare for Her Majesty's entrance, just saw Ludwig with the musket, so he rushed the Queen. The result is Frank and the Queen of England sliding down the length of the VIP table in a rather compromising position. Pictures of it were splashed all over the papers the next day, even in the "Daily Variety" (headline: "Nix Pix Shplix Queen")!
20. Frank keeps his job after the incident with the dignitary.

Answer: False

Nope. The next day, Frank cleans out his desk and comments "Just think, the next time I shoot someone, I could be arrested."
21. Frank and Jane make up before the baseball game.

Answer: True

Jane walks into the office and tells Frank that she had overheard Ludwig's plan. At the end of the scene, she says to him "I wanted you to know, now, I've loved you since the first day I met you and I'll never stop. I'm a very lucky woman." Frank's reply: "So am I."
22. How many play-by-play and color announcers were in the broadcast booth at the baseball game?

Answer: seven

They were (in order): Curt Gowdy, Jim Palmer, Tim McCarver, Dick Vitale (Doesn't he do basketball?), Mel Allen ("How about that!"), Dick Enberg, and Dr. Joyce Brothers (Dr. Joyce Brothers?!).
23. Whom does Frank impersonate during the game?

Answer: Home plate umpire

First, Frank impersonates opera singer Enrico Pallazzo (Tony Brafa) and sings the National Anthem (badly, I might add). Then, he impersonates the plate umpire (badly, as well). As the plate umpire, he has the opportunity to frisk most of the players by the Seventh Inning Stretch, when Ludwig intends to carry out his plan.
By the way, the game was California (now Anaheim) Angels vs. Seattle Mariners, but the baseball game was filmed at Dodger Stadium.
24. Who was the trigger man at the game?

Answer: Reggie Jackson

Yes, Mr. October himself! When Ludwig activated the alarm, Reggie pulled a gun from under second base and attempted to approach the Queen to kill her. Frank tackles him down, but the benches clear, resulting in a brawl and allowing Reggie to continue the job. Frank then tried to stun him with a cuff dart, which hit a large woman in the stands, and she landed on Reggie.
25. After Ludwig dies, his method of assassination triggers on Jane, who now "must kill Frank Drebin." Frank tries to talk her out of it. Finish this quote: "Jane, since I met you, I noticed things that I never knew were there before: birds singing, dew glistening on a newly-formed leaf, __________."

Answer: stoplights

Well, Frank talks her down on the DiamondVision, the brawl on the field ends, Jews and Arabs hug each other, a Saint Bernard licks a postman, Frank gets his job back, and Nordberg shows up and he's okay (That is, until Frank knocks him down the stadium stairs).
