Answer: The Beatles

From the album "A Hard Day's Night", "Money Can't Buy Me Love" was one of five Beatles songs that held the top five positions on the US Hot 100 on April 4, 1964.

The song was written by Paul McCartney, who sang lead vocals.

It topped the UK singles charts and the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964 and was also a number one in Australia and Ireland.

Which iconic British band sang the lyrics?

Answer: Queen

"Bohemian Rhapsody" was written by Freddie Mercury, and while many interpretations have been put forward, the band always declined to delve into what was in Mercury's mind.

At almost six minutes long, this was one of the longest songs ever to top a hit parade. (Elton John is reputed to have said: "Are you mad? You'll never get that on the radio!")

In a poll by Guinness World Records in 2002, "Bohemian Rhapsody" was named Britain's favourite pop song of all time.

On its release in 1975, the song topped the charts in six countries. It returned to the top of the UK charts when re-released after Mercury's death in 1991.

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these sunken eyes and learn to see All your life You were only waiting for this moment to be free. "Blackbird fly Blackbird fly Into the light of the dark black night...."

Answer: The Beatles

"Blackbird" was written by Paul McCartney about the struggle for Civil Rights in the USA.

He told "Mojo" magazine in October 2008: "We were totally immersed in the whole saga which was unfolding. So I got the idea of using a blackbird as a symbol for a black person.

"It wasn't necessarily a black 'bird', but it works that way, as much as then you called girls 'birds'; the Everlys had had 'Bird Dog,' so the word 'bird' was around. 'Take these broken wings' was very much in my mind, but it wasn't exactly an ornithological ditty; it was purposely symbolic."

It was on "The White Album" in 1970.
4. Which iconic British band sang the lyrics? "I met a gin soaked, bar-room queen in Memphis She tried to take me upstairs for a ride. Answer: The Rolling Stones

The Stones wrote "Honkey Tonk Women" as a country song.

Keith Richards later said: "It's all cowboys. It's all horses and spurs. And Mick and I were sitting on the porch of this ranch house and I started to play, basically fooling around with an old Hank Williams idea. 'Cause we really thought we were like real cowboys. Honky tonk women..."

The song topped the official UK charts and the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 and was also a number one in Australia, Ireland, and Switzerland.

Answer: The Who

Of the infamous stutter in the vocals, Roger Daltrey told "Uncut" magazine in October 2001: "I have got a stutter. I control it much better now but not in those days. When we were in the studio doing 'My Generation', Kit Lambert came up to me and said 'STUTTER!' I said 'What?' He said 'Stutter the words - it makes it sound like you're pilled' And I said, 'Oh... like I am!'
"And that's how it happened. It was always in there, it was always suggested with the 'f-f-fade' but the rest of it was improvised."

Pete Townsend, who wrote it, said: "'My Generation' was very much about trying to find a place in society. I was very, very lost. The band was young then. It was believed that its career would be incredibly brief."

The song was a UK number two in 1965 and hit the top ten in several other countries. Americans were less impressed, it topped out at number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Answer: The Rolling Stones

Released in 1965, this was on the album "December's Children (And Everybody's)".

It was to be the Stones' second successive US number one.

Keith Richards later said: "'Get Off My Cloud' was basically a response to people knocking on our door asking us for the follow up to 'Satisfaction,' which was such an enormous hit worldwide.

"This, to us, was mind-blowing. I mean not only was it a number one record but, boom!
"We thought, 'At last. We can sit back and maybe think about events.' Suddenly there's the knock at the door and of course what came out of that was 'Get Off Of My Cloud.'

"Because within three weeks, in those days hey, they want another single. And we weren't quite ready for that. So it was our response to the knock at the door: Get off of my cloud. And I'm surprised that it did so well. I mean it has a certain charm but I really remember it as a knee-jerk reaction. And it came out better than I thought."
