Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'My head grew heavy, my eyes grew dim.'

Answer: The Eagles

'...I had to stop for the night.' The Eagles' most famous song, 'Hotel California,' from the blockbuster album of the same name.
2. 'I'm going red and my tongue's getting tied, I'm off my head and my mouth's getting dry.'

Answer: 'Let's Spend the Night Together'

The Stones' hit, 'Let's Spend the Night Together,' from the album 'Flowers.' Fascinating fact: when this song was played on the old 'Ed Sullivan Show,' the Stones, those bad boys of rock, humbly agreed to change the lyrics to 'let's spend some time together.' You know, for the kids.
3. 'This heart could not accept and pretend.'

Answer: The Guess Who

'These Eyes,' a big hit for the Canadian group The Guess Who. Their other big hit was 'American Woman.'
4. 'Use your arms and your legs, it won't ruin you.'

Answer: 'Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?'

'...How can you say he will haunt you? You can go back to him anytime that you want to!' A non-album single by Bob Dylan, much beloved by Bob nuts like me. The other answers are all Dylan songs too.
5. 'A man walks down the street, he says, why am I soft in the middle now?'

Answer: Paul Simon

'...The rest of my life is so hard.' From the song 'You Can Call me Al,' off the beyond-classic album 'Graceland.' Truly one of the top ten indespensible albums for anyone who considers themselves a real music fan.
6. 'In a while will the smile on my face turn to plaster?'

Answer: Buffalo Springfield

'Mr. Soul,' originally released on the album 'Buffalo Springfield Again,' written by Neil Young. Mr. Young has performed the song solo, notably on his 'Unplugged' album.
7. 'Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes.'

Answer: 'White Room'

'White Room,' by Cream, from the album 'Wheels Of Fire.' These are some classic psychedelic lyrics here. 'Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings...' Yeah.
8. 'When she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine.'

Answer: The Kinks

Also, 'she walked like a woman and talked like a man.' This is 'Lola,' that classic song of gender confusion, off the album 'Lola Vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround Part One.' There was never a Part Two.
9. 'And when I think of it, my fingers turn to fists.'

Answer: Fiona Apple

'Limp,' a searing, vindictive song of indictment against a (soon to be) former lover, in the grand tradition of Bob Dylan. From Apple's fantastic album 'When the Pawn...'
10. 'Shoe the children with no shoes on their feet.'

Answer: Steve Miller

'...House the people livin' in the street.' From the title track of Miller's classic album 'Fly Like an Eagle.'
11. 'I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles.'

Answer: 'Crazy Love'

The other answers are also Van Morrison titles, but this is the first line from 'Crazy Love,' the third track on the superb album 'Moondance.'
12. 'Hair brushed and parted, typical me.'

Answer: The Smiths

'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish,' from the Smiths' typically spotty (some real brilliance, some fluff) album, 'Strangeways, Here We Come.'
13. 'If I ever lose my legs, I won't moan and I won't beg.'

Answer: 'Moonshadow'

Cat Stevens' terrifically optimistic song, from 'Teaser And the Firecat.'
14. 'I don't want to check your pulse. I don't want nobody else.'

Answer: Elvis Costello

Elvis Costello's sneering song '(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea.' This was originally on the album 'This Years Model,' taken off for the US release and replaced with the anti-commercial single 'Radio, Radio' for some reason. Nowadays the Costello reissues put everything in its proper place.
15. 'Dye your hair yellow and raise your hem.'

Answer: Tom Waits

'I got to wear the hat that my baby done sewed!' From 'Telephone Call From Istanbul,' a song off of one of Waits' many masterpieces, 'Franks Wild Years.' Thanks for playing the quiz and keep on listening!
