Question 1 of 10
1. A woman rushes into the store and exclaims that she is looking for a birthday present for her daughter, and she's in a hurry! She says that her daughter wrote down a specific album for her, but she forgot the paper at home. All she can remember is that it was a specific album by Kylie Minogue and had something to do with the word "disco" in a verse or chorus. What song and album would you not show her? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Oh, great-- you see the man who works at the candy store next door come waddling into your store with another one of his random questions about popular music. The man is a regular "Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy" encyclopedia who is always trying to stump you! Before you can duck behind a counter, he spots you, and shuffles over to ask you another random question. He asks you, "What was Madonna's first number one single?" What do you tell him?

Answer: (Three Words)
Question 3 of 10
3. While walking around doing your daily organizing of the CDs, you come across a customer who is holding four CDs in her hand looking very confused. When you approach her, she hands you the CDs in her hand and says, "I heard a song at my friend's house the other day. I remember she said the title of the song had nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. Can you help me figure out which of these songs on these CDs are like that?" Which one do you take from her and put back in its section because the title is part of the song somewhere? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Just as you come up to the counter, you see another employee standing with four CDs in her hand and a young girl beside her with an inquisitive look on her face. Your fellow sales associate holds out the four CDs and tells you, "She would like to know which one of these songs was written by Shania Twain but was sung by another artist." You take the CDs from her and begin thumbing through them as the young girl points out the songs that she thinks were written by Shania. Which one of these do you inform her is the only one written by her? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Emerging from the counter, you spot a retailer's worst nightmare-- the shoplifter! You see him trying his best to look unassuming, but the CDs he is shoving down his sweater tell a different story! You realize the CDs he puts into his pocket all include the same song by a different artist. First, he shoves the soundtracks to "Two Week's Notice" and "Friends", then moves to the popular section and thrusts Amy Grant's "House of Love" before moving down the section and grabbing Joni Mitchell's "Ladies of the Canyon". He starts walking out of the store when you put your hand on his shoulder and ask him, "If I can name the one song that's the same on all of those albums, will you put them all back?" Since he is terrified that you might turn him over to the police, he agrees. What song do you tell him is on all of those CDs? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Just after your lunch break, a young girl wearing fairy wings comes into the store. She makes a beeline for you and inquires what Tori Amos' Sony debut single was. What do you tell her? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. A man comes into your store and heads straight for you. He explains he is a radio disc jockey, and his radio station is doing a segment on stars that started out on talent search television shows. He says they would like to play a song in the background of someone that started on a television talent series. Knowing that it does not have to be the actual song they sang on the show, which of these artists and songs would you not suggest? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. As you are alphabetizing CDs, you feel someone tap you on the shoulder. Before you turn around, you know it's the candy store employee-- again! You turn around with your fakest smile on and ask him how you may help him, even though you know he only wants to know the answer to a random question. He firmly asks you, "What Moby single did Gwen Stefani guest on?" What do you tell him?

Answer: (Two Words)
Question 9 of 10
9. Finally! The last customer of the day finds his way to the counter. As usual for the last customer, he has a "quick" question, which they usually never are. He wants to know which of the four CDs he has includes a song sung by the original artist that was not included on either of the "Moulin Rouge!" soundtracks. After pondering the question for a moment, which one do you tell him it is? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Just as you begin to close the gate for the night, a couple comes running into the store. They say they were having an argument over a particular artist that maybe you could settle for them. The girl looks at you and inquires, "Which one of these songs did Missy Elliott not guest rap on?" Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: "Did It Again" from Impossible Princess

Amazingly, she wanted "Burning Up" from Kylie's 2001 release, "Fever". The only song that does not have the word "disco" anywhere in the song is "Did It Again", so there was no reason to show her that particular title. The woman rushes out of your store with a smile on her face knowing that her daughter will love her new CD.

Answer: Like a Virgin

You smile as he leaves your store in a huff. He was sure he had you that time! You knew, though, that Madonna's first number one single was the title track from "Like a Virgin" when it hit the number one spot on the Billboard Top 100 in November 1984. Hopefully this right answer will keep him from coming back to bug you again!

Answer: Nelly, "Country Grammar"

Since you know that only Nelly uses the title phrase in his song, you tell her that it is between the other three as you take his CD back to his section. You tell her that "Blue Monday" was originally done back in the 1980s by New Order and was remade as the first single release by Orgy in 1998 from their major label debut.

She listens as you inform her that "#1 Crush" by Garbage first appeared in the movie and on the soundtrack to 1996's "William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet" and was Garbage's highest-charting single in the 90s. Finally, you advise her "Possession" first appeared on Sarah McLachlan's fourth studio release, "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy".

She weighs her options and finally carries Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" up to the counter.

Answer: Britney Spears, "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know"

You hand the little girl Britney Spears' 2000 album, "Oops!... I Did It Again", and tell her that "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" was written by Shania Twain with help from her husband, "Mutt" Lange. The young girl hops up and down and digs money out of her pocket to pay for the CD as you continue to help other customers.

Answer: Big Yellow Taxi

You knew that "Big Yellow Taxi" first appeared on Joni Mitchell's 1970 album "Ladies of the Canyon". She later had her song remixed and put on the 1995 "Friends" soundtrack. You also knew that Amy Grant did her own version for her 1994 CD, "House of Love". 2003's "Two Week's Notice" soundtrack included the same song sung by Counting Crows and Vanessa Carlton.

The shoplifter drops the CDs on the counter and runs out of store, vowing never to come back into your store again.
6. Just after your lunch break, a young girl wearing fairy wings comes into the store. She makes a beeline for you and inquires what Tori Amos' Sony debut single was. What do you tell her?

Answer: A Sorta Fairytale

You knew that Tori started out on Atlantic records and released her groundbreaking debut album "Little Earthquakes". In 2002, however, Tori emerged free from her contract with Atlantic and was wooed by Sony Records. Her first single for them was the debut single off of her seventh studio album "Scarlet's Walk". Happy that you knew her idol that well, the girl with fairy wings promptly walks over to Tori's section and buys her own copy of "Scarlet's Walk".

Answer: Pink, "Family Portrait"

The DJ decides to go with Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This" because she is one of the more well-known stars that started out on a television talent search. Kelly, after all, won the first "American Idol: The Search for a Superster" in the summer of 2002, and her first single, "A Moment Like This", broke the record for the biggest jump to number one in Billboard Chart history when it went from number 52 to number one in one week. Anastacia was the first-runner up on "MTV's The Cut" the one year it aired.

She sang her original song, "I'm Outta Love", for the final round, which eventually became her debut single. Alanis Morissette made one appearance on the original "Star Search" in her younger years under the name Alanis Nadinia, which was a clever take on her middle name, Nadine.

She was sent packing back to Canada on her first appearance when she was beaten by a young man singing country who recieved 4 Stars to her 3.25 stars.

Answer: South Side

You were smart enough to know that there was a difference between the single and the original album cut. Gwen Stefani guested on the 2000 single version of "South Side", but she did not originally appear on his album "Play" until it was re-released with that mix on it.

The candy store man storms off back to his store muttering under his breath. You hope that is the last time you will have to see him today.

Answer: Lamb, "Gorecki"

You were aware that both "Roxanne" and "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" appeared on the first soundtrack to "Moulin Rouge!" but under different titles. "Roxanne" was sung by Ewan McGregor, Jose Feliciano, and Jacek Koman and appeared on the soundtrack as "El Tango De Roxanne". "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" was sung by Nicole Kidman and appeared on the soundtrack as "Sparkling Diamonds". "The Show Must Go On" appeared as the same title on "Moulin Rouge! 2" and was sung by Nicole Kidman and Jim Broadbent.

The only song that did not appear out of these four was "Gorecki", which was sung by Nicole Kidman in the movie. The original was sung by Lamb and appears on their self-titled major label debut.
10. Just as you begin to close the gate for the night, a couple comes running into the store. They say they were having an argument over a particular artist that maybe you could settle for them. The girl looks at you and inquires, "Which one of these songs did Missy Elliott not guest rap on?"

Answer: Aaliyah, "We Need a Resolution"

You tell them that Missy did indeed appear on all of these songs, except for Aaliyah's "We Need a Resolution". Although Aaliyah was a close friend and often did collaborate with her, Timbaland did the guest rapping on that particular song. The girl slaps her boyfriend's arm and says, "See? I told you that wasn't her!" You laugh as they turn and leave. You pull down the gate and turn off all of the lights.

Another day of satisfied customers! Keep up this good work, and that promotion to management might come sooner than you had hoped!
