Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Rolling Stones video featured the band in a tent filled with soap suds?

Answer: It's Only Rock And Roll

The band made this video before there were channels specializing in music videos. In the early days of music, artists would film a clip to promote their songs or albums but they were rarely seen.

In an interview on the Rolling Stones video called "25 X 5", singer Mick Jagger said they thought it would be fun to fill the tent with soap suds while they performed "It's Only Rock And Roll". However, they never realized that drummer Charlie Watts would be sitting through the entire shoot. The soap suds covered him and his drum kit completely.
2. What did the singer known as M destroy in the video for his number one single "Pop Muzik"?

Answer: Magazine

M was lying on the floor on top of several magazines when he held one up to the camera and ripped it in half. I don't know if this was some sort of statement about fashion in the music industry or what his intentions were.

M is the alias for musician Robin Scott. He got the name M after seeing the letter all around Paris. It was the symbol for Metro. Scott also told "Billboard" magazine that he wished he had never let it be known he and M were the same person. The song topped the charts in the U.S. and England in 1979. It was available on the album titled "New York-London-Paris-Munich".
3. Thanks to technology, a picture of Paul Simon could be seen singing from the page of a newpaper in the video for "Boy In The Bubble". What was the name of the newspaper?

Answer: The New York Times

This video is filled with so many different scenes like toddlers floating in mid air to Paul Simon standing in front of passing elephants. In one scene Simon is singing from a newspaper page and they started flipping over one by one until we get to the front page which clearly read "The New York Times".

"Boy In The Bubble" was featured on Simon's 1986 album "Graceland". That album also featured the singles "You Can Call Me Al" and "Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes".
4. Which ABBA video featured a young girl trying on a wedding dress?

Answer: Dancing Queen

The video was basically a performance by ABBA with snippets of a girl getting ready for her wedding. For some reason the groom looked a little irate as they were coming out of the church.

"Dancing Queen" was featured on the 1976 album called "Arrival". ABBA are perhaps the biggest band to ever hail from Sweden. Rumor has it the band turned down one billion (Yes, one billion) dollars to do a reunion tour in the year 2000.
5. The video for the song "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" featured clips of Rod Stewart watching himself perform the song on television. What famous musician was playing the drums?

Answer: Carmine Appice

During the performance scenes in this video you can clearly see it was Appice on the drums. If you didn't recognize his face, the bass drums had his name written on them. Appice has provided drum work for Vanilla Fudge, Ozzy Osbourne, Ted Nugent and dozens of other artists.

"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" was included on Rod Stewart's 1978 album "Blondes Have More Fun". The album topped the charts the following year.
6. Which band member is playing the bass guitar in the Traveling Wilburys video for the song "End Of The Line"?

Answer: Tom Petty

The video featured the band singing the song while traveling on a train. You can clearly see Tom Petty playing an electric bass during his vocal spot.

The Traveling Wilburys also included Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. All of these fine musicians got together and recorded two albums. "End Of The Line" appeared on the 1988 album titled "Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1".
7. The videos for the Robert Palmer songs "Addicted To Love" and "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" included a backing band made up of models in tight black dresses and bright red lipstick. What was in the background for the video to "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On"?

Answer: A white house

It's hard to tell if it's a famous house or just one they picked at random. It looked as if both of these videos were filmed at the same time. Robert Palmer may have decided to get both videos out of the way as soon as possible because they were practically the same concept: A well-dressed Palmer singing while five beautiful women portrayed his band members. There was some controversy in the media because some people considered the videos a bit sexist. Of course it's tame compared to the things some artists get away with in this day and age.

Both songs appeared on the 1985 album "Riptide". Robert Palmer died of a heart attack in 2003. He was 54 years old.
8. Which of these videos was NOT a live concert performance?

Answer: "In My Dreams" by Dokken

The Dokken video consisted of performance clips but they were not filmed in front of a live audience. This song was on their 1985 album "Under Lock And Key".

"Livin' On A Prayer" had the same look and feel as "You Give Love A Bad Name". "Don't Stop Believin'" was a live concert shot on a pretty bare stage. "Thrills In The Night" was taken from the MTV concert "Animalize: Live And Uncensored".
9. What could be seen in the window of the house at the start of John Cougar Mellencamp's video "Pink Houses"?

Answer: Bible

The Bible was standing open and leaned against the window pane. It could be seen for several seconds during the first verse of the song. The man in the rocking chair was outside on the porch. There were several American flags seen throughout the video.

"Pink Houses" was featured on Mellencamp's 1983 album called "Uh Huh". This disc also included the hits "Crumblin' Down" and "Authority Song".
10. In the opening for Twisted Sister's video "We're Not Gonna Take It" we saw a father berating his son for liking rock and roll. The boy struck a chord on his guitar and dear old dad went flying out the window in cartoon fashion. Here's the question: What color were the curtains hanging in the window?

Answer: Yellow

Twisted Sister were one of those metal bands who saw heavy rotation in the early days of MTV. This video featured Mark Metcalf from the 1978 movie "Animal House". The song was included on the 1984 album "Stay Hungry".

Okay, so this question was a bit silly unless you had a good memory or a sharp eye. Or if the video was playing while you wrote this quiz. I apologize. Thanks for playing.
