Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina - Wicked and evil while casting a spell'.

Answer: 'El Paso'

The all-time classic from Marty Robbins, issued on the 1959 album 'Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs'. 'Witchy Woman' is an Eagles song, 'Romance In Durago' is by Bob Dylan, and 'Evil Ways' is a Santana track.
2. 'She breaks just like a little girl'.

Answer: Bob Dylan

This is 'Just Like a Woman', from Dylan's acclaimed classic album 'Blonde On Blonde'.
3. 'It'll rain a sunny day, I know - Shinin' down like water'.

Answer: Creedence Clearwater Revival

That radio staple, 'Have You Ever Seen the Rain?' from CCR's great album 'Pendulum'.
4. 'Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup'.

Answer: 'Across the Universe'

This is the first line from the Beatles 'Across the Universe', off the very fine 'Let It Be' album.
5. 'All around me everybody's multiplying til they're walking round like flies man'.

Answer: the Kinks

'Apeman,' from the Kinks' klassik, 'Lola Vs. Powerman And the Moneygoround Part One'. This song wasn't as big a hit as 'Lola,' but it's still heard on classic radio stations now and then.
6. 'You end up like a dog that's been beat too much'.

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

'...Til you spend half your life just coverin' up.' Everybody... 'Boooorrrn in the U.S.A., I was...' etc. Springsteen's anthem of a veteran's disaffection, co-opted by the American right as a flag-waving jingoistic stadium anthem. Listen to the sparse acoustic version on Springsteen's '18 Tracks' and you'll hear the message a lot more clearly.
7. 'The microphone smells like a beer'.

Answer: 'Piano Man'

'...And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar and say, Man, what are you doin' here?' That Billy Joel favorite, 'Piano Man'. Tom Waits' song 'The Piano Has Been Drinking' offers a rather seedier, and more drunken, view of the same occupation.
8. 'I crawl like a viper through these suburban streets'.

Answer: Steely Dan

This is a classic radio staple for sure - 'Deacon Blues' by Steely Dan, off the album 'Aja'.
9. 'I'd howl at your beauty like a dog in heat and I'd claw at your heart and I'd tear at your sheet'.

Answer: Leonard Cohen

'...And I'd say Pleeeease - Please - I'm your man'. The title track from Cohen's superb 1988 album 'I'm Your Man'.
10. 'Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock as it stands against the wall...'

Answer: 'Night And Day'

Yes, they're all songs that Frank Sinatra made him own, but this is the slow introduction to Cole Porter's classic 'Night And Day.' (U2 did a fine version of it on the original 'Red Hot + Blue' album.) Hope you enjoyed the quiz! Keep listening!
