Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Secret Love

Answer: Doris Day

Just how good is Doris Day? Legend has it that she rode her bicycle to the studio on the day of the recording, did one take of the song with a full orchestra to support her and got the thumbs up from her musical director Ray Heindorf and the session was done and dusted in fifteen minutes.

Not bad for a song that would top the Cash Box and Billboard charts in the US in 1954 and go on to win an Academy Award for Best Song.
2. Unconditional Love

Answer: Against Me

This track was taken from Against Me's 2014 album "Transgender Dysphoria Blues". Against Me's front-woman is Laura Jane Grace, who was born Thomas James Gabel. Laura publicly came forward as a transgender woman in 2012. At the time she was married to visual artist Heather Hannoura. After seven years together they divorced in 2014. This song is about Laura's wife.
3. Big Love

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

Lindsay Buckingham has had an on/off relationship with the band Fleetwood Mac. He wrote this track during one of his periods away from the band with the intention of using it on one of his solo projects. By the time he'd rejoined the band for their "Tango in the Night" LP (1987) that project had not come to anything so it was incorporated into Mac's new release.

However, Buckingham didn't tour with the band after the album's release so, despite the track being the album's lead single, it was not played during any of the band's gigs on that tour.
4. Stoned Love

Answer: The Supremes

This song was written by Kinney Thomas who advised that it covered a range of social issues and had nothing at all to do with drugs despite its title. "Stones are forever, they don't break or come apart. Love will be here forever." This would be the Supremes biggest hit without Diana Ross who'd left to pursue a solo career.

It would reach number one on the R&B charts but it would be the last time The Supremes would reach the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot 100.
5. Digital Love

Answer: Daft Punk

Oh the lyrics are trite;
"Suddenly, I feel the shining sun
Before I know, this dream is all gone"
and they're delivered in a robotic voice yet somehow Daft Punk make this endearing. The duo are meticulous producers who have a habit of making even the most superficial of songs sound like great Euro-disco. "Digital Love" is the third single from Daft Punk's 2001 album "Discovery".
6. Everlasting Love

Answer: Robert Knight

This song was co-written by Mac Grayden, a former member of the country super-group Area Code 615, and Buzz Cason, a founding member of the Casuals. They provided the song to one of Mac's protégés Robert Knight. Released in 1967 it only managed a low charting position on the UK Singles charts in 1968. That same year the British group Love Affair recorded it and gave it a Phil Spector style work over.

Their version shot to number one in the UK charts while Knight's was still languishing at number forty. Six years later Knight would re-record the track and, this time, earned greater success reaching number 19 in the UK and 13 on Billboard's Hot 100.
7. Skinny Love

Answer: Bon Iver

In an interview with Pitchfork magazine Justin Vernon, Bon Iver's front-man, described the song being about time that is spent within a relationship; "you're in a relationship because you need help, but that's not necessarily why you should be in a relationship. And that's skinny.

It doesn't have weight. Skinny love doesn't have a chance because it's not nourished." The track appears on the band's debut album "For Emma, Forever Ago" (2007).
8. Hot Love

Answer: T-Rex

Released in 1971 this was the second of T-Rex's ten consecutive Top Four hits on the UK Singles charts. Whilst their prior single, "Ride a White Swan" released in 1970, stalled at number two, "Hot Love" would take its "la la la la-la la" swagger all the way to the top.

The glam rock genre had been steadily brewing but, for many punters, this was the track that launched it at a willing public. The trigger was Marc Bolan's appearance on "Top of the Pops" dressed in pink trousers and silver jacket, armed with a flying-V guitar and, at the suggestion of colleague Chelita Secunda, pasted glitter across his cheekbones.
9. Real Love

Answer: The Beatles

This song was released by the Beatles, well after John Lennon's death, as part of their "Anthology" series in 1995. It followed the single "Free as a Bird" as two "new" releases by the band. The song was an unfinished track that Lennon had been working on prior to his death. Yoko Ono provided the remaining Beatles with John's demo tapes and gave them permission to use it.

It would be the only Beatles release that would be credited to John Lennon alone. All the other Beatles' songs were either listed as Lennon-McCartney compositions or all four of the Beatles together.
10. Jungle Love

Answer: The Steve Miller Band

Greg Douglass, who co-wrote this song, tells a great story how he hadn't played with the Steve Miller Band in over 30 years when he went to one of his gigs at Pechanga in 2010; "I was strictly there as just another middle-aged guy taking his wife on a date." After the first encore had passed his wife turned to him and said "he hasn't played your song". Douglass had noticed and was starting to feel a little aggrieved when Miller started to relate to the crowd how the song came to be recorded. He then announced that one of the song-writers was in the crowd and called Douglass up to play his song. "I ran up onstage and, two minutes after being just another guy in the crowd, I was playing 'Jungle Love' with the band for the first time in 30 years. The audience went nuts...my wife was in total shock."

"Jungle Love" was released as a single in 1977 and appears on Miller's album "Book of Dreams".
