Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'The Hook' 1972

Answer: Tony Cole

A double-sided triumph for record producer Tony Cole. The flip-side, 'When The Music Stops' is a song about writers' block, and is absolutely terrific!
2. 'Bad News' 1979.

Answer: Moon Martin

Double-sided hit for Martin, with 'Signal For Help'. Martin also wrote 'Bad Case of Loving You' for Robert Palmer.
3. 'Seuperman's Big Sister' 1980

Answer: Ian Dury and the Blockheads

Possibly my favourite Ian Dury song, and there have been some good ones. This is from the 'Laughter' album, which really is one of the funniest albums ever released.
4. 'Mighty Joe' 1970

Answer: Shocking Blue

Follow-up to 'Venus' and 'Never Marry a Railroad Man', this was top-class rock.
5. 'The Wild Colonial Boy' 1980

Answer: Dr. Hook

Dr. Hook recorded this just for Australia, and had a hit with a very creditable version of an old Aussie classic folk song!
6. 'He's Gonna Step On You Again' 1971

Answer: John Kongos

I don't think too many people realised this was actually a protest against Apartheid. Most just thought it was a great rock song!
7. 'Fresh As a Daisy' 1971

Answer: Emmett Rhodes

Your archetypical 'one-hit wonder'.
8. 'Get Used To It' 1978

Answer: Roger Voudouris

Who can forget the sight of Roger's hair being blown all over the place in the film clip?
9. 'Daisy a Day' 1972

Answer: Jud Strunk

Cute Country song.
10. 'What Would the Children Think?' 1972

Answer: Rick Springfield

Yes, THAT Rick Springfield. Even in 1972, marital problems made for good music.
11. 'Sam' 1978

Answer: Olivia Newton-John

Another in a long list of hits for Olivia.
12. 'Shine a Little Love' 1979

Answer: ELO

Off the great 'Discovery' album, this was classic ELO.
13. 'Double Barrel' 1972

Answer: Dave and Ansil Collins

Something of a cross between reggae, soul and R and B, this was big in England and Australia.
14. 'My Melody of Love' 1974

Answer: Bobby Vinton

I've always enjoyed this song (except for the time Ivan Putski sang it at a WWF awards night!)
15. 'Here Come the Aussies' 1972

Answer: The 1972 Australian Cricket Team

OK, they couldn't sing, but they sure could play cricket! By the way, this was written by Daniel Boone, who also wrote 'Beautiful Sunday', 'Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast' and 'Skydiver'.
