Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First up is a catchy tune with a video filmed in and around a swimming pool, featuring some very nifty diving skills. Apparently one of the band is "Mr. Avril Lavigne" which may or may not mean anything to you! Which band were we watching?

Answer: Sum 41

Deryck Whibley, the lead singer of Sum 41, got married to Avril Lavigne on July 2006, in California.

The song with the swimming pool in the video is called "In Too Deep" and features on the "All Killer No Filler" album, released in 2001.
2. Next up was a band I now know, Green Day, with a cover version of "Working Class Hero". The song was written by one of the Beatles, but which one?

Answer: John Lennon

Lennon released "Working Class Hero" on his 1970 post Beatles album "John Lennon/The Plastic Ono Band".

As well as the Green Day cover, which was made to support Amnesty International's work in the Darfur region of Sudan, the song has been covered by, among others, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson and Ozzy Osborne.
3. Next up came Fall Out Boy, with "The Take Over The Break's Over" and a 'dream' video filmed from the viewpoint of a dog. Do you know the name on the dog's kennel?

Answer: Hemingway

'Hemingway' belongs to Pete Wentz, the bass player and front man of the band.
4. In the next song, a 'happy' young man called Joseph Poole is telling us that he'll be dead by Christmas, and asks Santa for "A custom fitted casket with black velvet interior and ______" What else does he want?

Answer: A Bucket of Chicken

"Buried by Christmas" is by Wednesday 13, from the album "Transylvania 90210", released in 2005. The CD is subtitled "Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead". Cheerful or what!
5. The next song was one of those very catchy, very annoying ones that gets in your head and won't go away! Who sings "This is my United States of Whatever" over and over and over?

Answer: Liam Lynch

"United States of Whatever" went into the top 10 in the singles chart in both the UK and Australia. It's a very short song, but it's "earworm" power is enormous.

Liam Lynch is also a film director and in 2005 he directed "The Pick of Destiny" starring Tenacious D.
6. The next video features a nice big bonfire burning merrily in the background, and right at the end, we see the drummer limping as fast as he can and rolling up his trouser leg to inspect the burn on his calf where he was too close. What song is the video for?

Answer: Famous Last Words

"Famous Last Words" is by My Chemical Romance, and features on the CD "The Black Parade".

When drummer Bob Bryar burned his leg during filming of the video, he contracted a severe infection. This, plus injuries to lead singer Gerard Way, also sustained during filming, caused the band to have to cancel several tour dates.
7. In this next video, the band are sent to jail. One of the guitarists is a rather large chappy and he poses beautifully in a lovely pink tutu in his cell. Which band were we watching?

Answer: Bowling For Soup

The song in question has a title that is unprintable on a family site, but it features on the CD "Let's Do It For Johnny", released in 2000. The album name is a reference to the film and book "The Outsiders".
8. Next up were the "Bloodhound Gang", dressed as monkeys, singing a song I always call 'The Discovery Channel Song'. What is the real title of the track?

Answer: Bad Touch

"Bad Touch" is featured on the "Hooray For Boobies" CD, released in 1999. The song was also released as a single and went to number 1 in Germany, number 4 in the UK, and number 6 in the US 'Modern Rock' charts.
9. In the next video, I wasn't even sure if the actual band members appeared or not. A succession of friends, fans and assorted hangers on dance and sing, including a toddler on the drums and a pause for a drink break half way through. At one point they hold up cards with the name of the band printed on them. Which band is it?

Answer: Feeder

The song "Just A Day" was the final Feeder single of 2001, and the last one on which Jon Lee played drums. It peaked at number 12 and stayed in the UK Top 20 singles chart for 4 weeks.
10. In this last video, set on a plane, the members of the band Foo Fighters play various characters including pilots, flight attendants, and passengers. Tenacious D also make an appearance, but which part do they play?

Answer: Mechanics

Tenacious D play flight mechanics who put "something" in the coffee pot on the plane. The Foo Fighters website tells us that the mysterious package is actually labelled "World Domination brand 'Erotic' sleeping powder".
"Learn to Fly" featured on the Foo Fighters 3rd album "There is Nothing Left to Lose" and was also released as a single, reaching number 20 on the Billboard 'Hot 100' chart in the USA.
