This song was originally supposed to be just an album cut, but after being covered successfully by country singer Lynn Anderson, the brother/sister duo decided to release it as a single, and it spent two weeks at the top of the U.S.charts as well as a number one placing in Canada, and a number five showing in the U.K.

"The Most Beautiful Girl", which was probably Charlie Rich's most successful songs, spent two weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in the fall of 1973. The song was also number one in Australia, Canada and Sweden, but puzzlingly only mustered a number 22 placing in the U.K.
4. "Nothing from Nothing" was a 1974 number one hit for this versatile artist who performed with many top acts. Can you guess his name?

Answer: Billy Preston

Billy Preston was sometimes know as "the Fifth Beatle" starting in 1969 when he played a significant role in some of their recordings, notably "Get Back", where he actually received billing on the record label. His own "Nothing from Nothing" was a 1974 number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. his second number one in as many years. Preston also collaborated with such acts as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Nat King Cole, Little Richard, Elton John and many others during his career, which was cut short by kidney disease in 2006, when he passed away.
5. Arguably Rod Stewart's biggest hit, this song spent two months at the top of the charts in late 1976. It'll be alright if you have to guess.

Answer: Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)

"Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright)", with all that sexual innuendo, spent a total of eight weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in November and December of 1976, and spilled over to the first week of 1977. The song only could muster a number five placing in the U.K. If you listen closely you can hear Britt Ekland (Stewart's girlfriend at the time) whispering in the background.
6. The Emotions took eight years from 1969 to 1977 to get to the top of the charts after their first recording. What was the best song they ever had?

Answer: Best of My Love

The Emotions first hit the charts in 1969 with a song called "So I Can Love You" which peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. That was their biggest charting single until "Best of My Love", a disco song, took over the charts in August of 1977 and spent a total of five non-consecutive weeks at the top. The song won a 1978 Grammy Award as well.

Answer: Star Wars

"The Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" as the song is labeled, was a disco arrangement of the motion picture theme. It was put together by Meco, aka Domenico Menardo an American music producer and musician. The song spent two weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts in October of 1977.
8. Debby Boone recorded "You Light Up My Life" for the movie of the same name in 1977.

Answer: False

The soundtrack recording was done by American soprano Cassie Cisyk, a Ukrainian born musician who did a lot of work in commercials during the 1970s. If you recall the film, Didi Conn lip-synched the words that were being sung by Cisyk, who died of breast cancer in 1998. Cisyk's version reached number 80 on the Billboard charts. Boone covered the song for commercial airplay and ended up with the number one song of not on 1977, but of the entire decade of the 1970s.

The song spent an amazing 10 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, a record that was not to be broken until Olivia Newton-John spent 11 weeks at the top with "Physical" in 1982.
9. The BeeGees had a big hit with "How Deep is Your Love" in 1977. However, the song was originally written with someone else in mind. Who?

Answer: Yvonne Elliman

I doubt if the BeeGees would write a song for any of the others, but they did intend for Yvonne Elliman to sing this song, but when they got involved in "Saturday Night Fever", they recorded it themselves and had a number one hit, spending a total of three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Elliman made out ok though.

She ended up with "If I Can't Have You" another of the BeeGees tunes, which was also on the soundtrack of the film.
10. Dionne Warwick hooked up with The Spinners to grab the top spot on the charts with this catchy tune. What was it?

Answer: Then Came You

Dionne was having a lull in her career in the mid 1970s and she agreed to hook up with The Spinners who were one of the top R&B groups at the time. The result was "Then Came You" which went to number one for a week on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts during the fall of 1974, and became the first number one charting single for either artist.
