Oldies 1150, Big500 Countdown Part 5 Quiz

Every year my local oldies radio station (CKOC in Hamilton, Ontario) compiles a countdown of the top 500 oldies, based on listeners' votes. Here is a sampling of some of the songs from the '70s that made the 2004 list (not counted down in order).

When Chicago formed in 1967, their dream was to blend all the different types of music enjoyed in Chicago, and come up with a new sound. The experiment resulted in 20 Top Ten hits over the years.

Although "Imagine" has become an anthem for people who seek world peace, it only peaked at #3 when it was first released.
Lennon's solo career has often been punctuated with controversy and political commentary, and many believe that this was why he was assassinated outside of his home, just months after his 40th birthday.

Answer: Green Eyed Lady

Fronted by Jerry Corbetta, Sugarloaf was a short-lived seventies band. Corbetta co-wrote this beautiful song with Phillips and Riordan who, to the best that I can determine, were not also in the band. After Sugarloaf split up, Corbetta continued to write, and joined up with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
"Stay a While", by the Bells (a song I unlovingly think of as the whisper song), was #240 on the countdown, "She's a Lady", by Tom Jones, was #411, and "Where Evil Grows", by the Poppy Family, was #146.
10. What was song #8 on the countdown? "Just take those old records off the shelf, I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself. Today's music ain't got the same soul..."

Answer: Old Time Rock and Roll

As well as having a very successful recording career, Bob Seger has also written songs for many other artists, ranging from Garth Brooks to Tina Turner to Metallica. "Old TIme Rock and Roll" was immortalized by a young Tom Cruise as he slid across the floor in his socked feet and underwear, and lip-synced the song in his break-through movie, "Risky Business".
"American Pie", by Don McLean, was #7 on the countdown, "Listen to the Music", by the Doobie Brothers, was #49, and "Resurrection Shuffle", by Ashton, Gardner and Dyke, was #500.
