Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You probably remember Stevie Nicks' big solo hits like "Edge of Seventeen", "Stand Back" and "If Anyone Falls". Of which Grammy-award winning supergroup was Nicks a member?

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

According to Yahoo Music, Fleetwood Mac started as a "hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s" but morphed into the pop-rock band that still gets lots of airplay on the classic rock stations with the addition of member Christine McVie and later Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

Their smash hits include "Rhiannon", "Dreams", "Don't Stop" and "Over My Head". The "Rumours" LP won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1977.
2. Mark Slaughter fronted the 1990s pop-metal band Slaughter, who hit the charts with "Up All Night" and "Fly to the Angels". In which metal band did Mark Slaughter get his start?

Answer: Vinnie Vincent Invasion

Bassist Dana Strum, also of Vinnie Vincent Invasion, was Mark Slaughter's co-founder of Slaughter.
3. Johnny Rotten (aka John Lydon) was the leader and singer for Public Image Limited (aka P.I.L.) in the 1980s. In which early punk band did Johnny get his start?

Answer: The Sex Pistols

The influence of the short-lived Sex Pistols, a band which existed for only two years, is immeasurable. Pioneers in punk rock, their raw sound inspired countless rockers in the U.S. as well as their home country, the U.K. The 1986 major motion picture "Sid and Nancy", based on the lives of Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols and his girlfriend Nancy Spungen, was critically acclaimed and earned various film awards for actor Gary Oldman, actress Chloe Webb and director Alex Cox.
4. You may remember Belinda Carlisle's solo hits, which included "Mad About You", "I Get Weak" and "Heaven is a Place on Earth", but in which pop band did she get her start?

Answer: The Go-Go's

The Go-Go's biggest hits were "Our Lips Are Sealed", "We Got the Beat", "Vacation" and "Head Over Heels". Although Belinda's solo career stood out, bandmate Jane Wiedlin recorded albums which included the minor hits "Blue Kiss" and "Rush Hour" and also acted in the movies "Clue" and "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure", as Joan of Arc.
5. You may know that Vince Clarke of Erasure was originally in Depeche Mode, but which synth band was he in between these two stints?

Answer: Yaz (or Yazoo)

Originally known as Yazoo and later Yaz, duo Vince Clarke and singer Alison Moyet got everyone dancing with "Situation" in 1982. While Vince Clarke hit it big in Erasure with hits like "Chains of Love", "Chorus" and "Sometimes", Alison Moyet also charted in the U.S. with her top 40 single "Invisible".
6. Rod Stewart had an amazingly successful solo career, but in whose band did he first achieve stardom in the late 60s?

Answer: Jeff Beck

Before forming the Jeff Beck Band which featured Stewart's vocals on the first two albums, Beck was lead guitarist in the Yardbirds, replacing Eric Clapton. But while Stewart went on to become wildly popular with solo hits like "Maggie May", "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and "Forever Young", highly respected guitarist Beck never achieved the same kind of commercial success.
7. Heavy metaler Glenn Danzig fronted Danzig, but in which of these bands was he a punk pioneer?

Answer: The Misfits

Co-founder of hardcore band The Misfits in 1977, Danzig subsequently founded Samhain, taking a turn towards metal, and by 1987 formed his dark, goth-metal self-titled band recruiting drummer Chuck Biscuits, formerly of D.O.A., Black Flag and Circle Jerks.
8. Which pop-rock singer, whose solo hits charted high in the late 80s, began as vocalist for The Spencer Davis Group at the age of 15, later formed Traffic, and went on to become a member of Blind Faith?

Answer: Steve Winwood

Winwood hits include "I'm A Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin'" with the Spencer Davis Group, "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" with Traffic, "Can't Find My Way Home" with Blind Faith, and his own solo hits "Valerie", "While You See a Chance" and "Higher Love". Fellow bandmates in Traffic were Jim Capaldi and Dave Mason, while Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, formerly of Cream, were Winwood's bandmates in Blind Faith.
9. Peter Murphy's 1990 song "Cuts You Up" was at the top of the modern rock charts for seven weeks and crossed over onto the top 40 charts. Of which early 80's goth band was Peter a founder?

Answer: Bauhaus

Peter Murphy was the vocalist for Bauhaus, which was formed by Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins. Yahoo Music calls Bauhaus the "founding fathers of goth rock.".
10. Which enormously successful British band did Peter Gabriel front before going on to an enormously successful solo career?

Answer: Genesis

Among the classics produced by the Peter Gabriel fronted Genesis were "The Carpet Crawlers" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". When he left in 1975, the band decided drummer Phil Collins should take over the lead vocals, which spawned hits like "Follow You, Follow Me", "Abacab", "Land of Confusion" and "Invisible Touch". With megahits like "In Your Eyes" and "Big Time", Peter Gabriel's 1986 "So" album gave his former band a run for the money. Phil Collins also had great solo success with his own hits like "In the Air Tonight" and "One More Night".
