Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of my favorite subtitles is (Barking at Airplanes). Paranoia, explained simply enough... What is the title of the song?

Answer: "Crazy in the Night" by Kim Carnes

A very odd minor hit by the singer of "Bette Davis Eyes." "Sometimes I really think I'm going crazy in the night when I hide out in the covers and I won't turn out the light. I say nothing's gonna get to me but then again it might. What can I do to keep from going crazy in the night?"
2. Another great one: (or How I was Robert McNamara'd into Submission).

Answer: "A Simple Desultory Philippic" by Simon & Garfunkel

A rather bizarre parody of the work of Bob Dylan and folk music in general, with several names dropped into the lyrics almost at random.
3. Kirsty MacColl sung about a less-than-honest person she knew and compared him with a man who was courting her. "There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop" makes what claim?

Answer: (Swears He's Elvis)

"There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis, just like you swore to me that you'd be true. There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis, but he's a liar and I'm not sure about you."
4. John Lennon did a holiday song called simply enough "Happy Xmas", but added a subtitle after it. What was the subtitle?

Answer: (War is Over)

"Give Me Peace on Earth" is the subtitle from George Harrison's "Give Me Love", while "Wonderful Christmastime" is the title of Paul McCartney's contribution to Christmas Music and "Ding Dong Ding" is the background lyric to "Wonderful Christmastime". "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" was intended as a Vietnam protest song, but has become a timeless holiday classic.
5. (Exordium and Terminus) is the subtitle to what rather interesting hit of the 60's?

Answer: "In the Year 2525" by Zager and Evans

"Exordium and Terminus" basically means "The Beginning and the End", but the song actually does not deal with any beginning--just bad science fiction predictions of life in the years 2525, 3535, 4545, 5555, 6565, 7510, 8510, and 9595.
6. Remember Rupert Holmes' (The Pina Colada Song)? What was the actual title?

Answer: "Escape"

"Partners In Crime" is the album the song appeared on, "O'Malley's" is the bar they meet at, and of course the chorus starts out "If you like Pina Coladas", but the last line of the chorus is where the song gets the title: "Write to me and Escape".
7. Before he became "The Gambler", a leading force in Country Music, Kenny Rogers made a name for himself in Acid Rock with "Just Dropped In". What was the subtitle to this psychedelic classic?

Answer: (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)

"I tripped on a cloud and fell eight miles high" is a typical line from this LSD-inspired anthem.
8. Sheena Easton's first hit song was "Morning Train." It's original title was moved to the subtitle because another song came out the same year with that same title. What song was it?

Answer: Dolly Parton's "9 to 5"

Each of those lyrics do appear in the song "Morning Train (9 to 5)", but the title was originally "9 to 5". The song was released at almost exactly the same time as the Dolly Parton hit and movie--and with Easton a virtual unknown, had she had to compete with both the song and the movie, she would probably have been long forgotten.
9. "Sail Away, Sail Away, Sail Away" Irish singer Enya sings in her greatest hit. But (Sail Away) is the subtitle to the song. What was the actual title?

Answer: "Orinoco Flow"

"Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow" is the opening line to "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)". The other songs also appear on her album "Watermark." The Orinoco, incidentally, is a river in South America.
10. Tommy Tutone made many people miserable with his use of a now infamous phone number (867-5309). The number was the subtitle. What was the actual title?

Answer: "Jenny"

"Call Me" was a hit for Blondie, and the other titles are lines from "Jenny (867-5309)". The problems created by this song are too numerous to mention as people living previously peaceful lives started getting harassing phone calls at all hours of the night. Apparently, they continue to this day.

Some people and businesses, on the other hand, have intentionally acquired this number for precisely the same reason--it gets called.
