Answer: Ian Stewart

Ian Andrew Robert Stewart (July 18, 1938 to December 12, 1985) was a co-founder of The Rolling Stones. He was born in Kirklatch Farm, Pittenweem, East Neuk, Fife, Scotland. Stewart was dismissed from the band by the band's then manager Andrew Loog Oldham in May of 1963 but he remained as road manager and pianist. Oldham supposedly said that Stewart didn't fit the image of the Stones and six members of the band would be too many.
4. At every show of the 1969 Rolling Stones tour they were introduced with the line; "Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome...the Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World...The Rolling Stones!" Who uttered these words?

Answer: Sam Cutler

Sam Cutler (c.1943) was the band's Personal Tour Manager.

Chip Monck (March 5, 1939) was the Stage and Lighting Director. Monck is perhaps best known as the Master of Ceremonies at The Woodstock festival.

Ronnie Schneider (October 20, 1943) was the Tour Manager.

Ethan Russell (November 26, 1945) was the official Tour Photographer and author of "Let It Bleed", a book about the 1969 tour.
5. The Rolling Stones rehearsed their 1969 U.S. tour at the home of Steven Stills. On the set of which movie did they rehearse the actual staging of the show?

Answer: They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

The Stones rehearsed at Stills' home studio, but needed a larger venue to practice the staging of the show. The most readily available large stage was a sound stage at Warner Brothers studio in Los Angeles. The set was the one used for the marathon dance scenes in the movie. It was still being used for the movie when The Stones used it.
6. What was the first stop on the Rolling Stones 1969 tour?

Answer: Fort Collins, Colorado

They performed at Colorado State University on November 7, 1969. The show was in a gymnasium. The show in Los Angeles was November 8, 1969, Chicago was November 16. New York was November 27 and 28 for three shows.
7. What was the name of the venue the Rolling Stones appeared at in Philadelphia on November 25, 1969?

Answer: The Spectrum Sports Arena

The Spectrum was at the time the most used venue in the country. It was usually fully booked every day. The Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers and Philadelphia Flyers played their home games there. Local colleges also used it and as music shows got bigger audiences, they were there also. The Rolling Stones played there on November 25, 1969.
8. What was the final 'official' stop on the Rolling Stones 1969 U.S. tour? (It was not a free concert.)

Answer: West Palm Beach, Florida

They played at International Raceway in West Palm Beach on November 30, 1969. Detroit was November 24, Champaign was November 15 and Baltimore was November 26.
9. The venue for the Rolling Stones 'free concert' was The Altamont Raceway.

Answer: False

It was known as the Altamont Speedway. The venue was originally supposed to be at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, but that was not available for the day of the concert. The next choice was Sears Point Raceway in nearby Sonoma County, but the problem there was that the owners of the track wanted movie rights to the show.

They also wanted the Rolling Stones to pay an exorbitant amount of money for insurance and cleaning. Altamont Speedway was the next choice.
10. The man who was killed at the Altamont Rolling Stones concert was named ___ Hunter.

Answer: Meredith

Meredith Hunter (October 24, 1951 to December 6, 1969) was at the concert. He allegedly was punched by a Hells Angel serving as a security guard. Hunter then pulled out a gun and was then stabbed to death by another Hells Angel. The killing was caught on camera and became a key part in the documentary 'Gimme Shelter'.

Hells Angel Alan Passaro was arrested and charged with the murder of Hunter. Passaro was acquitted on the grounds of self-defense. The jury saw the footage from the concert showing Hunter with the gun and pointing it in the air. Marty Balin of the Jefferson Airplane was also punched several times during their performance, by a Hells Angel.
