"I Can't Drive 55" was released in 1984 on the album "VOA". The song was released by Sammy Hagar. Sammy was born in 1947 and is sometimes known as "The Red Rocker". The song was written by Sammy Hagar after his disgust over the lowering of highway speed limits.

On "The Simpsons" episode "Brake My Wife, Please", Comic Book Guy makes a reference to the song when he is driving his car. He says, "I can't drive 55, because it only goes 38!"

He would turn left and hide under the bridge, only to be shot anyway. He said after he wrote the lyrics, the recurring nightmare stopped and he never had it again.
